buti kapa sir unlimited budget, ako hardtail lang kaya e, mahal na sakin full-susp.

kulang nga budget sir kaya di mabili gustong bilhin maganda ang hardtail sir, halos karamihan naman hardtail pa rin ginagamit. sa probinsiya nga rigid fork pa, wala naman yang suspension na yan pero ok pa din hahaha! minsan nagiging status symbol na kasi yang bisikleta, ang ganda nga ng bike carbon frame pa, di naman makapedal hahaha! sabi nga, its not the pana, its the indian...

sa mga may headlight paadvice naman ano magandang brand yung maliwanag sana. hehe! tsaka blinker (tail light) na rin. madalas na ko siguro gabihin sa daan neto pag napasarap kakapadyak hehe

Along Roxas Blvd, iniisip / imagine ko na lang na sandy beach ang Manila Bay
at Mountains naman the buildings on the opposite side. Hahaha! Baliw! :freak:

I ride hardtails if i want faster rides and FS if I want a relaxing ride.

Then I shited to Suspension Forks and started building my own bikes with FS Frames.
I never went back to using Rigid Forks. :bike:

hm parang di na dapat 11 speed ang mtb hehe, road just went 11 speed recently, except for campy.

you should brake with one finger only naman when using hydros, one finger is enough. more control on the bars. currently on hygia slp brakes, far cry from xt brake feel and power, but i got it for its weight. bigat ng xt

MiLes, bigat nga XT, kya parang meron na naman ako upgrade-titis :D (XTR race would be good). Ung old shimano XTR, XT, SLX at deore, Hindi maganda ergonomics nung lever/leaf Nya at wala pang servo wave kaya Hindi sya kasing lambot ng latest brakes nila at ng sram's elixir/X series. For the 11 speed, it's only paired with a single chainring upfront. SRAM designed it with the 29'ers in mind although 650b/26.5ers are already quickly adopting it.

*Monty, agree with jmpet626, you need to know purpose ng riding mo. I currently have 4 bikes, 1 hardtail, and 3 fullies. The hardtail was my first bike, and with several cases of severe upgrade-titis, a single bike grew to 4 bikes. The upgrades were mostly due for better components and ride comfort. My hardtail is setup as XC (as most HTs are, afaik). It is more aimed at attacking the hard packs/roads. Your body position is more "nakayuko". My second bike was a fully, and was an AM setup. It was very comfortable as I was almost on a sitting position. But due to this setup, it was very sluggish and slower than my hardtail (my rear damper did not have any lockout and pedaling hard made my suspension bob sapping pedaling inputs), but, it made riding through trails really good as it absorbed bumps with its 5-inch travel fork and frame damper. Being it so, I wanted a faster fully so I built another one setup as an enduro. It's a fully that has XC in its bloodstream. It had an ok balance of comfort and speed (faster than my AM and HT bike due to better components and more comfortable than my HT but not as comfortable as my AM). As my latest project, my 4th bike was built to exceed my previous bikes in terms of comfort, speed and weight. Had to save for almost 1.5 years, it's a trail MTB with components consisting of XTR/XTs, bontrager carbon seatpost/handlebar/stem, crankbrothers wheelset and a full carbon frame. It is the one bike that ruled over my other bikes. So it was supposed to be pero mukhang Plano ko ulit bumuo, hehehe, thinking of upgrading my 4th bikes brakeset to XTR/formula, then using the existing XT to build a 650b (I have a x-fusion velvet sitting around that I also can use), then again, that's another story.

So Monty, based on my story, lesson is, choose the right bike setup, set a budget (i suggest good and slightly cheap components like a deore and an epicon fork, saw one being sold at sulit.com.ph at 7500 pesos), then buy and ride it hard. Meron ako mga kilala na nagsetup ng midend components pero dahil wala silang ma kasabay na mag ride, naging display na Lang bike nila. Very important na maging habit mo sumakay, then gaya nga sabi mo a while back, let upgrade-titis run it's course.

thanks a lot for the insights sir aDD_L, I really appreciate it. as I am also from the province and the mountain is just 200m away, I believe my riding will be a combination of paved and trail roads. i frequently see some bikers na dumadayo just to sample the outskirts roads along the mountains. nakakita na rin ako ng local bikeshop (sa FB) na malapit sa lugar ko and it seems he carry most of the popular brands. i'll visit him when i go home this end month or in dec. actually, its my 14 year old son that is keen on biking, he has a mongoose hardtail for now and gusto ko sabayan para bonding na rin. then gusto na rin ni misis so we might be buying 2 bikes instead

*piscesboy, tungkol sa price, di ko na iniisip, kinonsider ko na Lang na bisyo ko at spread across the whole year. Supported naman ako ni misis kasi alam Nya na since high school, biking na bisyo ko, wala ng iba :D. Baka yung ibang tsikoteers na meet ko na dati since during my BMX days, madalas ako nasa greenhills. Yung mga unang bikes, thru credit cards :D, yung 4th bike, matinding ipunan.

Tsaka for wellness naman and nagagamit naman nila yung bikes pag mag biking kami nila misis and the kids.

Sabi nga nila "take nothing but photos, kill nothing but time, leave nothing but trail tracks"

congrats on your new bike! nakablock lang yung image sa office kaya di ko pa makita. a good lighting is essential, would love to get the niterider mako, yung 200lumens. tail light ko cateye. currently using a zebralight headlamp and one cateye lamp out front. you can get those cree bulbed flashlights, gawa ka nalang ng holder sa bars using thick rubber bands. in my experience, you need at least 100lumens to get proper lighting. medyo expensive lang ang niterider na brand, especially those with rechargable power banks, but man they are strong!

mas opt ko lang using AA or AAA batt, kasi when doing epic rides mas mabilis bumili ng batteries sa tindahan hehe

okay lang hardtail, key is the fork. dati fox is the benchmark, but now dami na options and others are as smooth as fox forks. suntour has gone a long way, their forks are smoother now than before. i use fox on my ht, but magura on my fs. also, tire pressure is important. 5psi less than your usual can feel like added travel. depending on what terrain you ride, experiment on tire pressure but not so low that you pinch flat. sa roadbike 100psi normal lang hehe, i do not go below 90psi. of course sa mtb, mataas na 40 sakin, on dh i use only 25psi, sometimes 20psi depending on course and running conditions

dont believe the saying nasa indian wala sa pana good equipment will mean a difference in winning or losing, in making good time or riding hard. sabi nga nila sa downhill, it will make the difference between enjoying the ride than from riding just to survive

if i would get another hardtail eto magiging budget ko, keeping in mind cost-weight ratio and performance
frame (giant xtc team alu) - 14k
fork (fox f100) - 25k-27k, 2nd hand, dami nyan just check for condition
groupset (deore) - 13-14k? not sure how much na price

- mavic 717 rims - 2.5k each? not sure about price but in that range

Yes, it will either a be formula or an XTR race, but I'm leaning on XTR race kasi mas type ko itsura, medyo industrial kasi ang formula. Weight wise, mas magawan ng konti ung XTR race. And, Mas bagay kasi sa supermatic ko, at pag umeedad na, mas gusto na ang mga sleek looking (I am already nearing the big 4-0). Pero matagal pa naman, kasi am planning on a 650b MTB. regards sa 11 speed, it's actually the opposite, you remove 2 chainrings upfront, no lateral growth upfront, reduced chain growth, kasi sa likod na Lang ang gagalaw. That's why it is being used for 29ers and 650b (27.5er) MTBs since these bikes have bigger chain growth due to longer chainstays. Imagine having to use your granny gear and the biggest cog on the rear, that's already stretching your chain, combine that with longer chainstays, it's a recipe for chainsuck, skipped gears and broken chain/chainring/cogs. Also, with 29ers and 650b (27.5er), the rotational load of the bigger tires, having a huge chainring upfront will require higher pedaling force/effort. With 1x11, you have the optimum chainring upfront. Ang ayaw ko Lang dito, proprietary na naman ang hubs due to special requirement at the casette/cogs to accommodate the 11 speed.

actually gusto ko sana xt na crank and rd maskina deore na lahat hehe. 12k? medyo bumaba nga. i guess you are right on the 1x11, hirap nga sa hubs nanaman. btw how much xtr race brakes?
