Philippines coronavirus patient has recovered, authorities say | World news | The Guardian

"Woman, 38, who travelled with the only victim to die outside China and Hong Kong, is no longer infectious, says doctor"

"“This shows the novel coronavirus is not uniformly fatal and that recovery is more likely than dying from the disease,” said Dr Edsel Salvana, director of the University of the Philippines’ Institute of Molecular Biology. “Please don’t panic and don’t share fake news.”"

that's what someone already said, many posts ago.
as i recall, fatality rates of 2-3% were mentioned.
well within the figures for the usual influenzas.

It seems we have just passed the apex of the bell curve (in terms of new cases being reported). It thus seems China has finally been able to contain the spread.

What I'd like to know is what factors cause people to die. 2% death rate seems small but if you become part of the death toll, how small the rate is doesn't really matter, does it?

usually people already with underlying health problems

    RE 2% death rate

    if 10,000,000 are infected 2% is 200,000 which isn't a small number

This is quite true for those Chinese who came here illegally. they will be afraid to go to legitimate Doctors or Hospitals due to fear of getting jailed or Deported.

IIRC, that was in Thailand, sir. This is here in our soil -- thus the difference. I wonder what local doctors, did, if any, to "treat" this woman.

how about the Chinese whistleblower doctor who died? was he not healthy?

just wondering about this, since this is what's been repeated over and over, na if healthy ka, you have nothing to worry about...

or i just misunderstood what the experts are trying to say?

It was truly unfortunate that the good doctor died from the virus.

could be that he was working long hours for weeks (stress, lack of sleep -- humina resistensya)

and repeated exposure to the virus

    -

there's another explanation that isn't "repeated over and over"

that coz healthy people have strong immune systems and when they encounter a virus never seen before, their immune system mounts an exaggerated response resulting who WHOLE BODY inflammation which shuts down vital organs
