The Chinese, like HItler, believe in the superiority of their (yelllow) race. That is why they frown on anyone marrying outside their own race. They want to keep their lineage pure, cause everyone else besides them are "barbarians". They are racists, in that sense.

Half-castes like you sir, are intensely frowned upon and looked down upon by the pure blooded Chinese because they know you are the product of mixed marriage, mixed union. You are an "anomaly", a "deformity", an "intrusion" to them. For generations, this was the norm, and to this day, GI's (Genuine "Intsiks") who still cling to traditional norms, still have this racist perception and bias against foreigners and mixed marriages.

Only "enlightened" Chinese (mostly outside China) are starting to change all that and don't frown at inter-marriages anymore, nor do these "enlightened" Chinese cling to the notion of the superior Chinese race.

Well, they got a rude awakening when they discovered that the rest of the world already overtook them by miles.
The last dynasty was so corrupt (inuna pa pag construct ng palaces and diverting funds from modernizing the navy) they were exploited by the imperialist powers of the time- Britain, Germany, Russia, France, Japan.

They fought the modern British warships with junks (literally), naturally, they lost. They even wanted to resist their foreign occupiers with believe it or not, Kung Fu (ano naman laban nun vs. modern rifles & cannon) conducting a racist massacre of foreigners and missionaries. Yung mga Once Upon a Time in China Movies ni Jet Li, based on the Boxer Rebellion yun) something our friend here Kags would be a fan of, I think. As a result, nung gumanti yung mga Europeans and the Japanese, to make a long story short, they got soundly whipped.

Ganyan din sa Japan (prior to their imperialism). Then Admiral Perry sailed in with his warships and said (figuratively) “Ayaw nyo makipagbati sa amin?” Sabay kasa ng baril & load ng mga cannon. Ano nagawa ng Shogun? … nganga. (Note: figurehead lang and emperor nila) That’s why the Japanese realized that if they kept to their arrogant ways and didn’t keep up with the rest of the world, lagi sila aapihin ng mga dayuhan. They took great pains to modernize (The Movie the Last Samurai is loosely based on the Meiji restoration).

Sometime later when they became an industrial power and yumabang ulit sila, they embarked on the path of imperialism & expansionism (Sounds familiar? i.e West Philippine Sea, Taiwan, HK, etc. ) Mga 2 generations ago, the Japanese were referred to as “devils” in Asia because of the atrocities they committed. Nowadays kids, well, the “weaboos” that is, embrace everything Japanese.

The Japanese share the same sentiments. Marriage and pure race. Just check out how they treat foreigners and their Hafu.

Also a friend of mine lived in present Germany and married one. Their offspring is often bullied in school that they moved to the US. Mixed race in Europe is still not the norm.

Good for you, sir. That is the way to go, IMO. True love, not social status or money, should be the foundation of marriage.

And as one integrates into the fabric of (Filipino) society, that's the only way to go, to be more understanding that we are all human beings connected to one another. Not just connected to the race where we came from. We are all the same because we're humans, period.

I have a friend who's 100% Chinese. When a common friend of ours (also 100% Chinese) married a Filipina in the 90's, words like "unfortunate" ("malas" in the vernacular) were uttered by him to describe our colleague's situation.

Fast forward to mid 2000's and his 100% Chinese brother-in-law also marries a Filipina, but this time he approves, because the Filipina has good social standing, and the family is quite well-to-do. He's starting to open up, even though for the wrong reasons, initially.

Then there is the past president of a big Chinese Business Association who could not accept that his son was marrying his Filipina classmate from U.P., even though the girl has good social standing. Words like "lose face" (within the business community) were uttered. Only when they had grandchildren was the son welcomed back into the fold, but the mother still had resentments especially since her grandchildren are "hwa na gong" (don't know how to speak Chinese).

Another 100% Chinese colleague married his Filipina officemate to the disapproval of the parents. This was just less than a decade ago.

So even though the situation is changing over here and the Chinese are becoming more tolerant as generations pass, there will always be holdovers who continue to cling on to the notion of a superior, pure race.

The ship is crewed 1,045 of which 531 are Filipinos. There is an additional 7 Filipino guests aboard.
