The geographical data clearly indicate that the G614 variant is more infectious. To confirm this in vitro, the researchers performed cell studies using forms of viruses with either the original (D614) or new (G614) variant of the spike protein.

They found that viruses with the D614G mutation were significantly more infectious — in some cases, by more than nine times.

So the old spike was D614, the new more infectious spike is G614. That explains the re-infection because if someone developed antibodies for D614 they were able to be re-infected by the new G614 mutation.

1 - there are people who fail to develop enough antibodies in the first infection kaya susceptible sila sa reinfection

2 - antibodies to SARSCOV2 don't last very long kaya sabi pag may vaccine na kailangan mag routine vaccination di tulad sa ibang vaccine once lang meron na protection for life

infecting and reinfecting people with coronavirus 229E that cause common cold

antibodies were monitored for a year

As of 4PM today, August 26, 2020, the Department of Health reports the total number of COVID-19 cases at 202,361.

DOH likewise announces 1,131 recoveries. This brings the total number of recoveries to 133,460.

A total of 5,277 confirmed cases are reported based on the total tests done by 95 out of 109 current operational labs.

Note: Of the 5,277 reported cases today, 4,350 (82%) occurred within the recent 14 days (August 13 - August 26, 2020). The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were NCR (2,616 or 60%), Region 4A (868 or 20%) and Region 6 (220 or 5%).

Of the 99 deaths, 77 occurred in August (78%), 18 in July (18%) 3 in June (3%) and 1 in May (1%). Deaths were from NCR (61 or 62%), Region 4A (14 or 14%), Region 3 (12 or 12%), Region 7 (6 or 6%), Region 6 (2 or 2%), Region 2 (1 or 1%), Region 10 (1 or 1%), and CAR (1 or 1%).

There were eighty (80) duplicates that were removed from the total case count. Of these, fifty-eight (58) recovered cases have been removed.

Moreover, there were nine (9) cases that were previously reported as recovered but after final validation, they were deaths.

These numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation

think of the spike as a ballpen and the receptor binding domain as the ball point

i didn't wanna sound too technical kaya i only used spike

kahit mag mutate ang spike (ung katawan ng ballpen), as long as di nagbago ang RBD, the virus will still bind to ACE2 receptors on the surface of our cells

maybe the virus is more transmissible but less deadly now

What is your take I read some people comments and they are saying this virus is overly hype by media, doctors, medical society etc.... with 90+% mild symptoms / asymptomatic and low death rate. But then again they understand that there is no vaccine yet and should wear mask and practice social distancing.
