A recent scientific article suggested that the novel coronavirus responsible for the Covid-19 epidemic has mutated into a more "aggressive" form. Is this something we need to worry about? No, and here's why.
Coronavirus mutations: Much ado about nothing - CNN

The odds of the virus mutating in such a way that it actually becomes more lethal or contagious over the timescale of weeks, months, or even a couple years aren’t very high.

The idea that it can mutate into many different strains and become as common as flu. We get flu vaccines yearly because the vaccine you had this year cannot make you immune to the other new strains that come out. And this is deadlier than flu. But i also read somewhere mabagal daw mag mutate ang sars cov 2.

the color suggests it is plasma.

it would depend, on how much each patient is slated to receive.
medyo wala sa linya ko yan. i do not know how many bags each patient will require.
but in some (non-covid) diseases kasi, a patient may require several of those bags.

imo SARSCOV2 is already at its most efficient form

it's highly contagious, has long incubation period, can be transmitted during asymptomatic phase, doesn't kill all its hosts

in terms of reproductive success it gets a score of 100

it's so successful it went global

unlike its cousins SARS classic and MERS-CoV

    SARSCOV2 is already perfect

if it mutates it might end up less efficient

i hope it is unstable and mutates itself into extinction.

why is a virus not successful if it's too deadly?

coz it quickly runs out of hosts and doesn't spread very far

    like ebola

Di ko gets. Are you saying sarscov2 won't mutate?
Edit: i think gets ko na. You're saying that if it mutates, it's likely less dangerous.

Viruses mutate. What uls is pointing out is that it is already a perfect virus that it may become less efficient on its next mutation.

Bill Gates favors PCR based mass testing but with quicker results than serological tests (rapid antibody test)

“The PCR test ... that is the key to tracing contacts and really getting people to go into serious quarantine,” Gates said, adding that a serological test “only goes positive after you've infected most everyone you're going to infect.”

He continued: “Any time the queue [for testing] is over 24 hours, that's complete mismanagement. Because the value of the result is far less worthwhile when you're not getting it very, very quickly. The best case is the PCR test goes positive before you're symptomatic or infectious and then you can act in such a way that you never infect anyone else.”

from Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the US

Dr. Anthony Fauci says people who recover from the coronavirus will likely be immune should a second wave of infection spread in the early fall.

He explained that because the virus has not mutated much, people who develop immunity will likely maintain it at least for the next few months.

Preliminary studies about coronavirus immunity and antibodies have shown that most, but not all, recovered patients develop antibodies.
Anthony Fauci says people who recover from the coronavirus should be immune through at least September. But some scientists worry that not all patients develop antibodies. | Business Insider

when a virus mutates, it'll either be worse for us, better for us, or there'll be no significant change in the effect on us.

Californians may have developed some herd immunity to coronavirus last year, Stanford team theorizes

"When you look at other states, it doesn't quite explain completely why California has been more fortunate, especially when it should be the least fortunate," said Victor Davis Hanson, senior fellow with the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

The state had a significant amount of travel to and from China last year - some 8,000 Chinese visitors a day at California's airports. Wuhan, China is considered the origin point of the novel coronavirus. It first came to public attention there in December 2019, but researchers are looking at whether it had been around much earlier than that.

"Something is going on that we haven't quite found out yet," Hanson said. "When you calculate as well there were people on direct flights, from San Francisco and LAX to Wuhan, ground zero of the outbreak, you'd be naive not to think the California population wasn't exposed."
Sa dami ng chinese na pumupunta dito and considering the population we have and the current cases, na immune na rin kaya tayo before the outbreak happened, undetected lang?

Where's the best place to get stuck in the quarantine? Maldives, you might say. But this couple had to live through that experience, and "being stuck in paradise" didn't seem as fun as it sounded.

Isn't mutation is just word for an individual evolution. And evolution doesn't work that way. Kung sino man na reproduction ng virus na weak would be killed by the immune system. Ang matitira lang eh yung makaka survive sa immune system. So there will be now way for the weak offsprings of virus to produce more weak virus. The only offsprings that'll be able to reproduce eh yong naka survive, hence it will evolve into something stronger.
