worked out for the 1st time since my covid19 affliction kanina, akala ko hihimatayin ako sa exertion ng pagbubuhat. bale it's been more than 4 months na din but apparently i can still feel the effects of the disease.

I thought I did NOT have long term side effects in the first few weeks, but now I don't feel comfortable double masking and I do tire and get short of breath easily..

Please don't work out yet, I don't want you dropping dead in the middle of exercise..

44 people test positive for COVID on Royal Caribbean Symphony of the Seas ship

"We were notified by the (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) that a guest on board our (December) 4th cruise tested positive and it was identified as omicron," Lyan Sierra-Caro, spokesperson for Royal Caribbean, told USA TODAY late Saturday. "They (CDC) asked us to notify guests on the sailing, the one that ended today, and the current one."

"This guest did not report symptoms to our onboard medical teams as outlined in our health protocols," the cruise line said in a copy of the email obtained by USA TODAY. "Their post cruise test results were subsequently confirmed as the omicron variant."

On the most recently concluded sailing, which disembarked on Saturday, 44 people out of 6,074 passengers and crew members on board Symphony of the Seas tested positive for COVID-19 – .72% of the community present on the ship.

"They were found as a result of immediately identifying close contacts after a guest tested positive," Sierra-Caro said, noting each person was quarantined quickly. "Everyone who tested positive is asymptomatic, and we continually monitored their health. Six guests were disembarked earlier in the cruise and transported home. The remaining guests received assistance today upon our arrival."

In the email to passengers, Royal Caribbean said the cases on the Dec. 11th sailing were "unrelated to the omicron case from the guest who sailed on Dec. 4th."

Watch out for these 5 early omicron symptoms, study says

Researchers looked at symptoms reported between Oct. 3 and 10, when the delta variant was dominant, and compared those to the most recent period, Dec. 3-10, when omicron was spreading rapidly.

The top five symptoms reported in December were:

Runny nose
Headache
Fatigue (either mild or severe)
Sneezing
Sore throat

“As our latest data shows, omicron symptoms are predominantly cold symptoms — runny nose, headache, sore throat, and sneezing — so people should stay at home as it might well be COVID,” Spector said. “We are also seeing two to three times as many mild infections in people with boosters in omicron areas as we do in delta variant areas, but they are still very protective and a vital weapon.”

The cold-like symptoms reported three days after a positive test were not vastly different from those of the delta variant, researchers found. The early data suggests that omicron arrives with symptoms distinct from earlier variants, which caused more flu-like, initial symptoms.

Researchers say each exposure following vaccination strengthens immune response to subsequent exposures, even to new variants.

As COVID cases continue to spread, Cook County is reacting after a case of the omicron variant was confirmed Wednesday. NBC 5’s Vi Nguyen has the story.

People who contract a breakthrough infection after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine may acquire a "super immunity" to the virus, researchers from the Oregon Health & Science University found.

A study, which was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, revealed antibodies in blood samples of those with breakthrough infections were as much as 1,000% times more effective than those generated two weeks following the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

As part of the study, blood samples were collected from 52 people, all university employees who received the Pfizer vaccine. A total of 26 people were identified as having mild breakthrough infections following vaccination. Of those cases, 10 involved the highly-contagious delta variant, nine were non-delta and seven were unknown variants, according to the study

"You can’t get a better immune response than this,” said Dr. Fikadu Tafesse, senior author and assistant professor of molecular microbiology and immunology at OHSU. “These vaccines are very effective against severe disease..."

Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady on Tuesday gave a breakdown on which COVID-19 variant is currently leading the surge in the Midwest. While 99.9% of the COVID cases are of delta variant as of now, she predicted that the omicron variant will soon spread quickly based on the studies from other countries.

“I think this speaks to an eventual end game,” said co-author Dr. Marcel Curlin, associate professor of medicine in the OHSU School of Medicine. “It doesn’t mean we’re at the end of the pandemic, but it points to where we’re likely to land: Once you’re vaccinated and then exposed to the virus, you’re probably going to be reasonably well-protected from future variants."

The group also measured the immune response to live virus exposed to blood sampled from people with breakthrough cases and compared it with the immune response to the control group, the university said. They found the breakthrough cases generated more antibodies at baseline. Consequently, those antibodies were "substantially better" at neutralizing the live virus.

Researchers noted they haven't specifically examined the omicron variant, but based on the results of the study, it's anticipated that breakthrough infections from the variant will generate a similarly strong immune response among those who've been vaccinated.

Covid-19 hospitalisations fall sharply in South Africa

“It really does seem as if…my country will escape relatively unscathed in this wave,” said Professor Tom Moultrie, a top demographer at the University of Cape Town.

However, Professor Moultrie stressed that South Africa's experience of omicron might be being shaped by the country's “horrendous” pandemic death toll and increased immunity among the population.

According to the South African Medical Research Council, the country of 60m has suffered more than 270,000 excess deaths – the number of deaths above the average of pre-pandemic years – since the pandemic began.

“What if South Africa's ‘light escape’…is because we ‘bought’ that present at horrendous cost during past waves,” said Professor Moultrie
