Yun lang ang pinag uusapan, mas mabilis mamatay sa delta so be it. Vaccinated people are still more protected than unvax.

Indonesia study shows Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine 85% effective against symptomatic illness among older folk, SE Asia News & Top Stories - The Straits Times

A study has shown that Sinovac's Covid-19 vaccine CoronaVac is 85 per cent effective against symptomatic illness and 92 per cent against hospitalisation among older people in Jakarta, the Indonesian government said on Friday (Aug 6) night.

The China-made vaccine is 95 per cent effective in preventing deaths, a chart from the Indonesian health ministry showed.

The effectiveness against symptomatic illness is reduced to 35 per cent if only the first jab is given.

The figures are based on a study involving 86,936 Jakarta residents aged 60 and above between March and April this year.

Vaccine effectiveness refers to the performance of a vaccine in a population under a real-world situation, while vaccine efficacy refers to the performance of a vaccine in a controlled clinical trial situation, according to the World Bank.

The study also revealed that chances of a vaccinated older person dying of Covid-19 are up to 15 times less than someone who is not vaccinated.

Is this true? This is what I do (surgical mask 4 ply then a cloth mask over it) I don't knot the surgical though kasi parang mas pangit ang fit

We have very few N95 mask left so I only use it when I think I need more protection.

Moderna may be superior to Pfizer against Delta; breakthrough odds rise with time | Reuters

The mRNA vaccine from Pfizer (PFE.N) and BioNTech (22UAy.DE) may be less effective than Moderna's against the Delta variant of the coronavirus, according to two reports posted on medRxiv on Sunday ahead of peer review. In a study of more than 50,000 patients in the Mayo Clinic Health System, researchers found the effectiveness of Moderna's vaccine against infection had dropped to 76% in July - when the Delta variant was predominant - from 86% in early 2021. Over the same period, the effectiveness of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine had fallen to 42% from 76%, researchers said. While both vaccines remain effective at preventing COVID hospitalization, a Moderna booster shot may be necessary soon for anyone who got the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines earlier this year, said Dr. Venky Soundararajan of Massachusetts data analytics company nference, who led the Mayo study.

In a separate study, elderly nursing home residents in Ontario produced stronger immune responses - especially to worrisome variants - after the Moderna vaccine than after the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

'Unvaccinated COVID patients wanted specific brands' | ABS-CBN News

An official of St. Luke’s Medical Center said some of the patients admitted in their hospitals amid the surge in COVID-19 cases are unvaccinated individuals waiting to get their preferred vaccine brands.

Chief medical officer Dr. Benjamin Campomanes said about 90% of their patients now are unvaccinated.

“Very few moderates. Very very few. You can count through your fingers the fully vaccinated people that have moderate disease. None in the critical and the severe stage,” he stressed

“Some of the people we see are [unvaccinated] because they are waiting for some kind of vaccine that they want. And I told them that you know, it becomes too late,” he told ANC’s “Dateline Philippines.”

“There are instances where they said they wanted to wait for the vaccine that was promised to them, and so, they waited and it’s too late. They have the COVID now,” he said.
Was waiting for the Razon ICTSI Moderna....Good thing this Ayala sponsored Moderna shot offer came today. Will now delay the already pangakong na pako of ICTSI for six months and treat it as a booster shot.

Those blue surgical masks are made to prevent the surgeon from contaminating his patient with his breath & saliva but during inspiration, the air makes its way through the side. So, knotting makes for a better fit & using an N or KN is better cause of the better fit.

Majority of the public wears either a cloth or a surgical mask.
Knowing that the primary mode of transmission of Covid is through inspiration, it is therefore better to invest in a mask that provides a better seal around the face.

I have stopped using cloth, surgical or kn95 masks because it doesn’t provide a good seal around the face, it gets impossible to breath when it gets soaked with sweat & my breath escapes through the gaps & usually fogs up my glasses. This makes it difficult to see obviously.

My criticism about using 2 surgical mask is, it becomes too restrictive & more air enters the sides which is dangerous nowadays.

But I can understand that not everyone can afford a better mask & doubling down will help a bit more but, if you can afford better masks, why not?

What is a better mask then? You wear an N95 everyday? My problem with N95 sobrang daming fake. Also the N95 I have parang mas lapat pa surgical mask sakin. I've become comfortable na wearing surgical + cloth but I will switch to KN95 na, the Good Manner brand recommended here plux cloth. Totoo na bihira lang can afford to wear an N95 daily

This is what I wear now. It has a kn95 filter inside, provides a very good silicon seal around the nose & mouth, the filter doesn’t collapse whenever I breath, easier to talk in, easier to breath too & never fogs up my glasses since my breath passes the perforations & valve only. I put a cut off surgical mask over the valve. It isn’t expensive at all. Bought it for less than P200 in Lazada & with replacement filters. I bought everyone in the family already. Everyone here is happy with it.
There are other rigid masks like the O2 Canada but that cost P5k. Some are similar to mine & prices range from P200-400.
With masks, I think we are in it for the long haul.

The doctors in the family wear only their 3M N95 in the hospital as it is the ultimate in protection but, its really hard to breath in & they up with wound on their faces.

Bruh, your N95, how often you changed it? A N95 mask can last how many days if you are just sitting in an office setting?
