i read some years ago, that balikbayan boxes are indeed being to used to smuggle in, many things.
i read about this guy who dis-assembled harleys and such, and shipped them here in balikbayan boxes...
guns are much easier because they are smaller. and i believe they do it for commerce and not to assassinate anyone.
^ Re gun smuggling via balikbayan boxes: that's not the first time. Either nung panahon ni GMA or P-Noy, there was at least one instance where just under 20 boxes were inspected and found to have pistols and assault rifles. afaik, these were fully assembled, no effort at all to conceal the fact that they were guns.
As if we don't have enough guns within the Ph already. Even some emotionally unstable army reservists have them.
If anything, those paltiks from Danao etc. may even be harder to trace.
i think that guy needs to undergo a drug test.Originally Posted by Cathy

prohibition is the twin brother of criminality.
if you ban alcohol or tobacco, it'll be gangster 30's again.
Damn, son! Where'd you find this?
Nah, the case i had in mind was after FVR na...as in 16-20 boxes filled with guns, some with full auto assault rifles.
Seems as recent as Aug 18/19, me nahuli na sila:

WTF indeed on those "to be used for assassination" claims. It's more likely that those guns will be sold in the black market and used to fund some private army.
DOJ CLERKS BEING FORCED TO TESTIFY AGAINST DE LIMA?
Admin is doing everything they can to pin down De Lima.TWO employees of the Department of Justice are reportedly being “forced” to sign an affidavit saying former justice secretary and now Sen. Leila de Lima asked them to deposit millions of pesos, purportedly drug money, in her bank account.
Sources said the employees, Jonathan Caranto and Edna Obuyes, went to the National Bureau of Investigation yesterday allegedly on the instruction of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre III.
Aguirre could not be reached for comment but last week he said he has evidence and witnesses against De Lima, and the evidence and affidavits of witnesses will be presented at the House of Representatives when it starts its inquiry into the proliferation of drugs at the National Bilibid Prison when De Lima was justice secretary. No date has been set for the hearing.
The source did not say if Aguirre was the one who is forcing the two, both receiving clerks at the DOJ, to sign the prepared affidavit.
“Secretary Aguirre talked with them and referred them to the NBI that conducted lie detector test and asked them to sign a prepared affidavit,” the source said.
“They refused to sign (last Tuesday) but were told to come back (Wednesday) at 1 p.m.,” the source added.
Another source said De Lima’s camp learned that an inmate at the New Bilibid Prison had been convinced to issue an affidavit implicating the senator in the illegal drug trade at the national penitentiary.
The source said the inmate, Melvin Galang of Malabon, has issued the affidavit.
De Lima, in an earlier interview, said she received information about a group going around NBP looking for drug convicts who are willing to sign an affidavit that will implicate her in illegal drug operations
