EDSA is a dead end. There's no space to build more roads. There's no place to build more roads. All you can do is impose draconian traffic alleviation measures and try to convince people to stay away.

So give in to economic blackmail and approve projects+kickbacks just to get it done?

Mind you, Ramos did the exact same shortcutting you're asking for, and those projects still were not finished before the end of his term.

Stamp out the BS now, and it will be difficult for us in the short term, but in the long term, it will have a positive effect on development.

Give in to corruption because we can't wait, and we'll never shake the monkey off our back.

So much for an "open Malacanan" or as he wants to call it "People's Palace".

I was hoping he would give them time and opportunity to air their grievances. Another lost opportunity to cover both sides of the fence and mend.

You will also notice that they prioritized the entry/exit to the west of the expressway to the bay (Macapagal area). If the purpose of this elevated road is to decongest the major arteries, they should have prioritized to build the ramp to Coastal road but unfortunately, not.
That's just one, major project. Don't discount the Skyway - Harbor - NLEX link which is still a construction in progress.

Honestly, i still want to see C6 developed pronto.

Like the proposed FOI bill... in which the most prominent exemptions are the exact reasons people wanted the FOI bill in the first place.

Though that's not a problem limited to Digong's term. Look what happened to the RH Bill... finally got passed after bloody conflict, then Sotto in budgeting cut the legs off from right under it.

Well, at least my acquaintances in the left are bullishly optimistic about this.

Let's be honest, previous administrations have not been entirely honest or forthcoming about the peace process. In this case, at least, Digong is not spouting BS.

    -

As for the Abus... well... the recent killings were really a predictable outcome, but they can never say he didn't give them more chances than they deserve.

I don't agree with everything Digong does, but the mere fact that he is trying to de-escalate the left-right conflict gives me hope for peace in Mindanao.

I only wish he'd apply the same thinking to the drug problem. Then again... this is Duterte, like you said, he is unpredictable.
That's a plus point for him. That he's indeed trying to push for peace on those fronts.

The gov't is pushing for a quicker way of doing business which was initiated in 2010 (afaik Mar Roxas did this). Sana nga mas maging mabilis pa. 2 days na lang daw.

    Good move on their part.

TV Patrol did a piece on loans that minimum wage earners can get. PAG IBIG commented that the delays are usually caused by BIR for required forms -- sometimes stretching into months.

It's not the forms per se. It's the examiners and their supervisors asking for documents each time you go back to follow up the issuance of your CAR (certificate authorizing registration). They have a checklist but still ask for docs outside of it. This is a complete hassle especially if you're coming from a far place. Kawawa talaga taxpayer. Nagbabayad na ng tama pinahihirapan pa.

I don't even have FB messenger. Saka unlimited naman ang call and text, basta same company diba?

BTT: I don't get why this admin is so focused on drugs. We have other issues too but the government makes it seem like solving the drug problem will take away all the other problems of this country away! We aren't even as bad as Mexico or Colombia. I really can't wait until this nightmare is over!

That has always made me curious - before the Duterte campaign, the drug problem was never on the forefront of the ills that needed solving in our country.

For the longest time, poverty and corruption have been the biggest problems that needed to be addressed. Yet, during the Duterte campaign, 16M people were suddenly convinced that we needed to go on an all-out drug war.

I have always believed that drug use is correlated to poverty levels. The poorer a community, the higher their propensity to turn to drugs. Yet, this government prefers to hack off the branches rather then address the roots.

Perhaps if Duterte says that the problem is that people have too much freedom, everyone will buy into that as well, and wholeheartedly accept Martial Law.

If EDSA and MRT is a dead end, sabihin na lang natin sa pagong huwag nang dumaan sa EDSA, but where?
The Coastal highway was already their big move to ease traffic from Cavite... that and the MCX, which helps move people between Cavite and Manila.

Unfortunately, these projects also fall under induced demand, so traffic is still getting heavier.

Easing access to the airport helps not simply in terms of sheer volume, but in economic opportunities opened up in terms of tourism and business.

    -

There is no real solution to EDSA except for people to start taking alternate routes.

During the big jam brought about by the monsoon rains a month ago, I managed to get from Balintawak to SLEX in just 1.5 hours... everyone else was stuck on EDSA for three to four. And that 1.5 hours included half an hour stuck trying to get past the floods in Banawe. If I'd simply followed my instincts and taken C5, I would have only taken one hour.

That shorter travel time is simply from avoiding EDSA.

EDSA is a complete muck-up of development. If we'd let it remain a highway rather than a gigantic parking lot for big malls and condominiums, we could probably ease much of the congestion there and spread it elsewhere.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

THE campaign spokesman for President Rodrigo Duterte, former Davao City councilor Peter Tiu Laviņa, has yet to answer questions about a post he made on Facebook during the weekend, a photo of a woman weeping beside the sprawled body of a dead child.
