I am defending the notion of elevating the discourse in case it wasn't clear.

Based on the posts, majority of the posters agreed to take it a step higher. If we keep stooping down again like calling people and places stupid, well let's make up our minds here.

namwaran, no, let us not BS each other. This guy jack husain has taken pains to answer point by point the supposed 50 achievements of the President in his first 50 days in office. your guy commentator has this uncanny reputation of copy-pasting news reports and facebook posts. is that your definition of "elevating the discourse" a step higher?

you are a smart fellow, namwaran, and, let me tell you, you are not talking to some stupid ass. so, it is better for us not bullshitting each other. am I making myself clear?

Agreed and I think I am misunderstood unlike the other guy who has clear bias.

Look, Tor is not my guy. I don't even know him nor do I agree with with all the posts. The reason why I am in forums is FB is a cesspool already. The call out I made is on the name calling. If that's BS of me thinking that name calling is not elevating the conversation, that I disagree with. Are we on the same page now Juan Martinez?

    'UN RAPPORTEURS BROKE PROTOCOL'
Duterte threatens to take PH out of UN

President Duterte on Sunday threatened to withdraw the country’s membership in the United Nations (UN) amid calls from rights experts to put an end on extrajudicial killings.

Duterte hit the UN’s supposed meddling in the state affairs when special rapporteurs from the intergovernmental body welcomed the challenge to look into the rising death toll attributed to the administration’s intensified war against illegal drugs.

“Maybe we just have to decide to separate from the United Nations,” Duterte said in an early morning press conference in Davao City.

“Kung ganyan kayo kabastos eh umalis na kami diyan sa inyo,” he added. (If you are that rude, we might just as well leave.)

Duterte said the UN special rapporteurs broke protocol when they aired a statement criticizing his administration.

“You do not just throw that kind of allegations or statement without even coming here,” he said, “You’re just relying on the reports of newspapers and tabloids. That’s what you do.”

Reminding the UN that he was not just a mayor anymore, the chief executive demanded to see the rapporteur in the Philippines or somewhere else.

“Let them talk to me and let them face me with hard facts,” he added.
AFTER A United Nations rapporteur announced she would accept the challenge of a Philippine government spokesperson to come over and look into the alleged extrajudicial killing of drug suspects, Malacañang announced that it was not inviting any international body to investigate its actions.

The Philippine government has not invited the United Nations to investigate drug-related killings in the country, and President Duterte considers pronouncements from external bodies on the country’s antinarcotics drive as “unwelcome meddling” in its internal affairs, Malacañang said yesterday.

He should fire Panelo. The guy shoots from the hip and when the UN reporter called his bluff they will threaten to pull out from UN? Does digong realize the repercussion of a withdrawal?

Eto ang problema pag pinatalsik nya si Panelo dahil sa pag hamon nito sa UN.

“You do not just throw that kind of allegations or statement without even coming here,” he said, “You’re just relying on the reports of newspapers and tabloids. That’s what you do.”

Essentially he an Panelo are on the same page but of course UN cannot come here because Malacañang was not inviting any international body to investigate its actions.

Ganyan pag ang namamahala ay sinto-sinto.

Not sure what to make of this. At first i thought it was a hoax, but various other media have reported the same:

Duterte orders 'thousands' of presidential appointees to vacate posts

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — More than a thousand government officials will vacate their jobs on Monday.

In a press conference in Davao City on Sunday, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that presidential appointees in all government agencies — including government corporations — must vacate their posts because of what he believes to be continued corruption in their offices.

"On Monday, I would declare all positions in the government... If you are there because of a presidential appointment, I will declare all your positions all throughout the country vacant," he said.

"It will number in thousands. Consider yourself in the crucible of the truth about corruption in this country," the President reiterated.

Cabinet Secretaries and career officials are exempted from the order.

Duterte specifically mentioned the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) as agencies he has deemed to be affected by corruption. Although he did not mention names, Duterte said he wants the LTFRB chief to "come and see" him in Malacañang.

As President, Duterte has the "mandate of control" over different executive departments and bureaus. He can appoint officials, or restructure or reconfigure their offices.

i'm still confused as to what will happen tomorrow:

    - are *all* regulatory bodies involved, or just LTO and LTFRB?
    - so all those 1000+ presidential appointees don't need to show up for work tomorrow? No turnover of responsibilities, etc?
    - automatically the assistants or deputies will take over their responsibilities? Are there enough assistants/deputies to go around, and are they even capable?
    - who will replace them? What if the assistants and deputies, or replacements, are corrupt too?
    - what if there are still complaints of corruption after the 1000+ are replaced? Purge na lang every 2 months?
    - will he pick the replacements?
    - realistically, will this cause a disruption in services, or carry lang?

(i don't work for the government btw)

"All the passengers ducked for cover. I just cried and shouted, ‘Why did they kill Ninoy? What is this? Those (Aquino’s military escorts) who were supposed to protect him killed him?’ I was really in disbelief,” Quijano said.

“I experienced martial law so I knew what could happen. That it was easy for them (the military) to kill people,” she said.

if those 1000 really want to sabotage the government then they should not report for work tomorrow.

bida na naman kanina sa cnn si digonggong dun sa threat nya na umalis sa UN. imho he can't do that by eo alone since that will be the same as revoking a treaty. it will need a 2/3 concurring senate vote.

Youre thinking logically. Duterte is not.

Its a waste of time second-guessing the idiot.

He'll just change his mind the next day, and the day after.

If you were terminated that way, corrupt or not, you'd be pissed.

See, if that's the way he wants to do things, then fine...but it's usually a good idea to have a plan to deal with the fallout.

I actually pity Martin Delgra, the LTFRB chair. Such a good guy but thrust to become some sort of a mini-Duterte in LTFRB and expected to rid of the Body of corruption in 3-6 months.

Kahit sino pang ilagay, no can do in 6 months.

Mga tanga lang talaga yung 16.6M to expect it can happen.

Like it or not but he or his advisers are not so stupid actually to be that trigger happy. He is using, sorry if its doesnt make sense, an open ended sentence and its been the hallmark of his presidential career so far. He sure like to exaggerate. Will it really run in thousands? Possible but let see. If there is a purge, my guess will probably be at lower rung or those officials who are napapalaki lang ng tiyan. We know marami yan sa agency. Saang agency nga ba ulit yung na news dati na nagpapamasahe sa isang employee? Cant recall if its from this agency but you know where im getting at.

Noticed something too that his cabinet and career officials are exempted from this order. Not sure about his cabinet but the career officials are mostly scholars. Cant be a scholar if you are bobo. I am not yet so cynical to view this as his way to insert his own people but i hope this is a real push for meritocracy becuase this is what the country needs.

Mr. President sure know how to please his target demographics though. This will be a popular move. Theres no denying LTFRB and LTO is an incompetent and corrupt agency. Mostly commoners like many of us naaagrabyado with their incompetence. Im sure many will be happy with this news.

What sort of positions do presidential appointees hold anyways? Parang malabo na rank and file, or even middle management lang?

I dunno. Considering how the UN has devolved into its present bureaucratic mess akin to the EU leadership, I'd contemplate leaving the organization.

but then, it's a totally different reason compared to Duterte
Damn, son! Where'd you find this?
