If the previous admin lined their pocket with public funds then the current admin wont have that money to dispense so quickly

Duterte tabloid launched ahead of TV show

MANILA, Philippines – Remember President Rodrigo Duterte's weekend television show when he was still Davao City mayor?

Soon, the show Gikan Sa Masa, Para Sa Masa will be launched as a national television show and will be renamed Mula Sa Masa, Para Sa Masa, Palace Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said on Thursday, August 18.

But while preparations for the TV show are still underway, the Presidential Communications Office is set to release the tabloid version of the show with the same title.

"Ladies and gentlemen, habang wala pa po 'yung television show, ginagawa pa po namin 'yung studio sa Malacañang (while the TV show is not yet ready, we are still preparing the studio in Malacañang), please welcome Mula Sa Masa, Para Sa Masa tabloid," said Andanar during a Thursday press conference in Davao City.

He held up the first edition of the tabloid covering the dates August 19-31, 2016. Unsurprisingly, the main story is about Duterte's war on drugs.

Andanar said it will be a bi-monthly publication with an initial printing of 5,000 copies. The tabloid is free.

The topics of the tabloid are not all serious. It comes with an Entertainment or Showbiz section, said Andanar.

The Showbiz section even features a blind-item piece about a childstar whose career suffered from drug addiction and a singer whose talent faded due to vice.
Yerp there goes your tax money folks pero ok lang may FOI naman eh.

Wala man lang horoscope, result ng karera ng kabayo, at xerex.

    They became the PNP.

New leaf kuno, but many old faces still remained.

The impunity of their summary executions was passed on to a younger generation. While things have gotten better, there are still occassions where they take shortcuts and simply kill suspects. And one occassion, where I've heard that they've pulled a suspect out of the ER after a gunfight to take him to another hospital... far away... just to make sure that he wouldn't make it.

The middle class and provincials of the time didn't know much of what was going on.

    Marcos controlled the media.

You never heard, at the time, about the killings, disappearances and how the law treated you differently if you had "connections"...

After the revolution, everything came out. There was chaos.

People only remember hearing about the police killings, disappearances and the like during Cory's time... which is why they don't associate them with Marcos.

Another big issue: You can't overhaul an entire rotten system overnight. So the corrupt officials from before stayed.

The abusive policemen from before stayed.

    There was still corruption.

    There was still summary execution.

And there was chaos in the streets because people had lost a lot of money in the years since 1983 and 1986... police were underfunded, crime went up.

But nobody remembered why that happened. All they remembered was that it was linked to the ouster of Marcos.

They didn't remember WHY we had no money and a morally corrupt police force. Or why the military kept revolting.

The didn't remember why the sugar plantations collapsed (crony politics) or why the industrialists fled our country in droves (crony politics). Hell... I still meet people who think the multinationals set out to screw us in the first place... not realizing that companies like Ford and DMG folded up because of cronies screwing with them.

    Myopia.

Just because we want things to get better doesn't mean we should turn a blind eye to what is wrong.

How old are you? Did you have to deal with curfews? With killings in the streets? I've seen people shot, stabbed, beaten and tear-gassed. I've had two of the above happen to me, and the other two nearly happen. I've seen police abuse and radical violence. I've been hauled out of my car by police. I've been trotted out of a jeepney like a common criminal, lined up on the side of the road with other passengers.

I remember when rape-slays were a dime a dozen... weekly fodder for sensationalist tabloids. I've seen victims... no... it's not nice.

I laugh at all the millenials who believe that crime is worse than it has ever been. Crime is bad, make no mistake... but as a country, we have come a ****ing long way in the past thirty years. The previous two administrations have put us on the right track, economically, and the benefits of CLEAN infrastructure spending started under PNoy will come to fruitition with the completion of the NAIA Expressway and the Japanese rail project... the rail that everyone after FVR kept ignoring... who got that project again? Then there are the multinationals who've been returning in the past few years, and Chinese and Japanese companies setting up shop and producing new jobs. Is that nothing?

    -

Life is hard. Provincial development still isn't happening properly... but that's the nature of the beast. If we want our economy to grow, we chase the money... and the money isn't in agriculture. Not right now. I think it's a good thing if Digong will try to develop the provinces, but he should not ignore the steps we have made under Aquino, and he shouldn't focus on sky high promises, but also making the same kind of incremental improvements started in the past decade.

    -

So... blah blah crime... blah blah... life is frickin' hard. Tell me about it. Life was easy for me back in the day, too. Back when I was young, stupid and didn't understand what was going on in the Philippines and the world.

Would I like to go back again?

    Hell no.

Only cowards refuse to face reality.

    As always, very well said.

I heard that tax collections for July and August abruptly dropped. Let's wait for the official announcement but this could be the reason why they are scrambling for tax reforms (to the disadvantage of the investors ).

This one I would agree. Our youth have little sense on patriotism. False Pinoy Pride all over FB. I only see millennials caring about the WPS issue or the Arbitration case and most of it are found in various fora.

What I observed is the guy is tactless during the campaign period and usually engages in such tirades when triggered. I remember the Trollanes propaganda a few days before election was nasty. I guess he is still in that mood of attacks since he won.

So far, I can't say he's done excellent and I can't say he's done real bad as a president. Too early for me to say.

That's not so good to hear. How much drop? I think the tax collection last May didn't hit their target as well.

This one I can agree with. Foreign investors or corporate tax payers are usually willing to pay right taxes as they trust that these taxes are mostly for infrastructure. If infrastructure development slows down, expect lesser foreign investments. Japan might not like that and they're our 2nd largest source of foreign investment next to US.

I bet there won't be any.

But generally speaking, national security is invoked as an exemption to public scrutiny. Duterte's intelligence and confidential allocations (P2.5B) are exempted from FOI.

i hope we won't resort to borrowing to cover the budget. The past admin made a lot of headway in reducing our foreign debt, thereby increasing PH's investment grade, thereby encouraging foreign investment.

    Dominoes.

    Ahhh....

As to foreign investments, Europeans are now taking a wait-and-see attitude

    From this link: http://www.bworldonline.com/content....tors&id=132189

There’s a hesitation at this point in time to really come in to the Philippines from an investment point of view because the people would rather be at a wait and see situation on how it turns out,” ECCP President Guenter Taus said at the sidelines of an EU-Philippine relations forum on Thursday.

Mr. Taus was elaborating on remarks he made in response to a question at the forum pointing out the extrajudicial killings amid the government’s war on drugs. President Rodrigo R. Duterte won by a landslide in this year’s election on the promise to rid the country of illegal drugs and their related criminality.

“This is not a judgmental issue. This is basically what we see and what we feel when we talk to international business trying to set up in the Philippines,” Mr. Taus also said.

“We’re not looking at it from a political point of view -- really from a business point of view. Everybody waits and sees what [findings] the human rights commission comes up with,” he said, referring to the almost 90 cases of suspected killings brought to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).

“So I think this would explain the hesitation in business attitude and people are just waiting to see how it’s gonna end.”

When asked if he had any specific industry in mind, Mr. Taus said: “Nobody in particular we want to mention here, but it’s a general sentiment that we sense when [we] talk, when we do our trade missions in Europe.”

Apart from this, the Senate committee on justice and human rights, chaired by Senator Leila M. de Lima, would hold a probe in aid of legislation next week on the spate of killings since President Rodrigo R. Duterte assumed office on June 30.

A total of 665 suspects have been killed in legitimate anti-drug operations, with 899 more deaths since July 1 under verification as to their circumstances, said Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director-General Ronald M. dela Rosa when he testified before the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs also on Thursday.

“Let’s give the new administration a hundred days and judge it from there. But I think if this would continue, we would probably see more hesitation from the international business community when they look at the Philippines,” Mr. Taus said.

And the wheel continues to turn.

PNoy used around P4.1T of debt. So, with the amount of P631B, Digong is set to end his term with P3.7T.

Though, it's not all bad to have foreign debts if credit rating is going up which means our economy is perceived as capable of such. One good thing about debt is it accelerates the completion of projects. That is if it really is used properly.

I thought we're going the high road here?

Anyway, I think Panacañang is a paronomasia for where the premises is located - Panacan. Came from a type of fish iirc.

Though I agree that the list is a bit stretched and the source is probably from a fanboy FB page.
