Exactly. As for buying off the PNP and AFP... worked for idol Arroyo... works even better for Digong.
They became the PNP.
New leaf kuno, but many old faces still remained.
The impunity of their summary executions was passed on to a younger generation. While things have gotten better, there are still occassions where they take shortcuts and simply kill suspects. And one occassion, where I've heard that they've pulled a suspect out of the ER after a gunfight to take him to another hospital... far away... just to make sure that he wouldn't make it.
The middle class and provincials of the time didn't know much of what was going on.
Marcos controlled the media.
You never heard, at the time, about the killings, disappearances and how the law treated you differently if you had "connections"...
After the revolution, everything came out. There was chaos.
People only remember hearing about the police killings, disappearances and the like during Cory's time... which is why they don't associate them with Marcos.
Another big issue: You can't overhaul an entire rotten system overnight. So the corrupt officials from before stayed.
The abusive policemen from before stayed.
There was still corruption.
There was still summary execution.
And there was chaos in the streets because people had lost a lot of money in the years since 1983 and 1986... police were underfunded, crime went up.
But nobody remembered why that happened. All they remembered was that it was linked to the ouster of Marcos.
They didn't remember WHY we had no money and a morally corrupt police force. Or why the military kept revolting.
The didn't remember why the sugar plantations collapsed (crony politics) or why the industrialists fled our country in droves (crony politics). Hell... I still meet people who think the multinationals set out to screw us in the first place... not realizing that companies like Ford and DMG folded up because of cronies screwing with them.
Myopia.
Just because we want things to get better doesn't mean we should turn a blind eye to what is wrong.
How old are you? Did you have to deal with curfews? With killings in the streets? I've seen people shot, stabbed, beaten and tear-gassed. I've had two of the above happen to me, and the other two nearly happen. I've seen police abuse and radical violence. I've been hauled out of my car by police. I've been trotted out of a jeepney like a common criminal, lined up on the side of the road with other passengers.
I remember when rape-slays were a dime a dozen... weekly fodder for sensationalist tabloids. I've seen victims... no... it's not nice.
I laugh at all the millenials who believe that crime is worse than it has ever been. Crime is bad, make no mistake... but as a country, we have come a ****ing long way in the past thirty years. The previous two administrations have put us on the right track, economically, and the benefits of CLEAN infrastructure spending started under PNoy will come to fruitition with the completion of the NAIA Expressway and the Japanese rail project... the rail that everyone after FVR kept ignoring... who got that project again? Then there are the multinationals who've been returning in the past few years, and Chinese and Japanese companies setting up shop and producing new jobs. Is that nothing?
-
Life is hard. Provincial development still isn't happening properly... but that's the nature of the beast. If we want our economy to grow, we chase the money... and the money isn't in agriculture. Not right now. I think it's a good thing if Digong will try to develop the provinces, but he should not ignore the steps we have made under Aquino, and he shouldn't focus on sky high promises, but also making the same kind of incremental improvements started in the past decade.
-
So... blah blah crime... blah blah... life is frickin' hard. Tell me about it. Life was easy for me back in the day, too. Back when I was young, stupid and didn't understand what was going on in the Philippines and the world.
Would I like to go back again?
Hell no.
Only cowards refuse to face reality.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
People who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.
Damn, son! Where'd you find this?
Sabagay hater kasi. O baka naman frustrated kasi pinangako nung isa nung nangangampanya sya pero 6 years after, napako lang.
Ito heart breaking story.
Parents of slain soldier ask Duterte: Pursue war on drugs, win the battle

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao —The parents of one of the soldiers killed in the war on illegal drugs have appealed to President Rodrigo Duterte to press on without let up the fight until the battle is won.
“Don’t waste the sacrifice of our son ... Mr. President. Please continue and win this battle. Your success means justice for the death of our beloved (Jay)...," said sobbing Erna Duran, 49, mother of PFC Jay Pee Duran.
PFC Duran was killed in a joint operation against big time drug suspects in Barangay Nabalawag, Midsayap, North Cotabato early last Sunday.
Meanwhile, Jay's father Jovy, said that his son's death "has demonstrated an ardent and courageous fight against criminal drug gangs that destroy the lives of many innocent people.”
Jovy, who is a member of Civilian Auxiliary Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) in his hometown Upi in Maguindanao, also said that he is "proud of his son."
PFC Duran, 28, has left behind his two-year-old son and his wife Honey Mafhil, who is a graduating college student.
“We, wives of soldiers, have long prepared ourselves for the possibility of death of our husbands," the young widow said with tears in her eyes as she hugged her little son.
Another young widow, Shenna Lim-Miravalles, wife of slain Corporal Josel Miravilles, recounted the last moments when they were together.
“My last talk with him was on Saturday night (Aug. 13), shortly before he left for the anti-drug mission. But what really saddens me is that he will not be around when we celebrate his 30th birthday come August 29,” she said.
Corporal Miravalles is a "decorated, true-blooded warrior" of the 6th Army Division according to Major General Edmundo Pangilinan, the commander of the Kampilan Division.
In 2010 he miraculously survived severe head and body injuries in a landmine blast while his group was on a military operation against communist guerillas in Makilala town in North Cotabato.
Last Thursday, President Duterte visited the wake of the two soldiers, to honor their gallantry and to personally bestow on them a posthumous award and cash assistance. —LBG, GMA News

Disente. hehe.
Docu, tabloid launching mark gov’t’s first 50 days

THE Duterte government marked its first 50 days in office with a documentary explaining it projects, including its war against illegal drugs.
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, who led the launching of the video documentary at the Ateneo de Davao University in Davao City, said the administration wanted to stress that changes have been made and these have benefited the public “under the 50-day-old leadership of President Duterte.”
Andanar said one such major accomplishment is the “600,000 drug dependents and drug pushers who presented themselves” to authorities, which he considers a “sign of victory.”
The video, which is almost 40 minutes long, also talked of changes in bilateral and diplomatic ties, economy, agriculture, infrastructure, transportation, traffic, social welfare, women’s rights and reproductive health, housing, environment.
It also highlighted the signing of executive orders on anti-poverty programs and the freedom of information, and the groundwork on constitutional amendments for the shift to a federal system.
Following the release of the documentary, Andanar also launched the “Mula Sa Masa, Para Sa Masa” tabloid, a bi-monthly publication from the Presidential Communications Office.
Andanar said the first edition, August 19-31, 2016, had an initial printing of 5,000 copies, and talked of the war on drugs.
He said the tabloid also contains entertainment and sports sections, and include “blind items” about personalities involved in illegal drugs like a child star and a singer whose careers suffered following their drug addictions.
Assistant Secretary Mon Cualoping said the online version of the tabloid will be launched within the next three weeks.
Andanar said they also expect the “Mula Sa Masa, Para Sa Masa” television program, which was inspired by Duterte’s “Gikan Sa Masa, Para Sa Masa” television program in Davao when he was still mayor, to be launched soon.
He said a television studio in Malacañang, where the program would be shot and broadcast from, is still being completed.

UN expert on drug killings: ‘Invitation to investigate accepted’
The United Nations special rapporteur on extra-judicial killings has accepted a Malacañang's dare for UN experts to come to the Philippines and seek for themselves the situation in the country.
"Invitation to investigate welcomed. Ready to see for myself," said Agnes Callamard in a post on Twitter.
Callamard was reacting to an Agence France Press report that quoted Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo as saying "When you are in New York or somewhere else, 10,000 kilometers or miles away from the Philippines and then you make such judgments, that's recklessness."
"Those statements are misplaced and baseless, and they better come over and see for themselves the real situation," Panelo said.![]()
Walang kaso. Source of corruption yan.
Looking forward to it though. Easier to defile his remains.
