Nissan Patrol GU/Y61 Thread

With the repair at hand your best bet is to find a good mechanic(either casa or reputable repair shop outside) and source your parts from the auto supply I mentoined in my post. To clarify things, hindi repair shop yung pinuntahan ko sa Taft, auto supply lang where I buy parts from, they do minor repairs / parts replacement in front of their shop, pero I wouldn't advise you to have a major repair there, since hindi covered yung facade ng shop nila.

I went there yersterday to buy some stuff, I inquired about the turbo repair kit and it turn-out na wala daw OEM repair kit ng turbo, turbo cleaning lang pala ginagawa ng mga mekaniko doon.

As far as I know eto ginawa sa unit namin by our mechanic regarding your repairs at hand:

Hi! I have a 2001 patrol w/ 130k km. brought it to Nissan Pasong Tamo and was diagnosed with the following major repairs:

1. need to replace intercooler/leak -- may leak yung sa amin, nilagyan ng ceramic patch, or replace na talaga
2. replace valve cover gasket -- AFAIK, available gaskets / oil seals sa kanila.
3. replace 4 pcs injector oil seal -- ask them about this, no info.
4. replace drivebelt & auto tensioner -- three times na ako magpalit nito. meron sa kanila, pero best parin na magdala ng sample since iba't-iba daw size and lumalabas na tensioner.
5. rep turbo hose/big/crack - nagpalit kami nito, sobtang liit pero ang mahal, 3K-4K OEM turbo hose, per piece to ha
6. need ti replace all door hinges -- Wala ako info regarding this
7. need to check front wheel bearing -- no info

the intercooler alone was quoted at P70,000 total quote was at a whooping P141k++ (Diyos ko po)

need your help guys. Saan po yung cnasabi nyo na pinagdalhan sa taft, maybe I need a second opinion.

you definitely need a 2nd opinion. i was also quoted 70k for the intercooler leak sa pasong tamo. dont let them do the "patch up work" which is to epoxy your whole intercooler. it doesnt work. im currently having mine done at erl motorwerx. pwede nila i weld yng leaks kung de na talaga kaya they can fabricate a new one for u ( buy a new intercooler core tas attach it to your old endtanks). sure de lalampas ng 20k depends on the damage. also, you could try to find a surplus intercooler

not worth it paayos sa casa unless last resort haha. if i were u source the parts outside tas pakabit mo nalng elsewhere, someone u trust (labor nalang babayaran mo). dami kalokohan sa casa. sa parts ka talaga papatayin laki ng patong. try nissan parts banawe.

thanks for the pm. no idea bout the surplus intercooler the mechanic at erl motorwerx was the one who canvassed for me. hirap daw talaga maghanap ng surplus for this patrol model. i ended up having a new one fabricated nalang since nde daw ganun ka tibay yung original intercooler ng nissan. manipis daw yng aluminum n stuff , baka masira lang ulit. try asking erl motorwerx tell them gs2 mo pa fabricate IC for a nissan patrol gu pa quote ka. ill drop by din to check on my car ill ask the mechanic narin where he found ( if meron nga talaga) the surplus IC.

my mistake about the surplus intercooler. mahirap nga daw makahanap sabi ng mechanic.

ok na intercooler ko. they fabricated a new one for me. galing sa nissan sylvia yung core ng intercooler then they welded it to my stock endtanks tas yun kabit na ulit sa car. the new intercooler does not fit the original housing/cover. bitin siya by an inch or so but they said ok lang yan since mas high quality material naman and mas makapal yng aluminum kaysa sa yng stock intercooler.may guarantee naman e so im happy with it. test drive nalang cguro.

Our GU had its oil change today and the mechanic commented that the oil filter element seems loose inside the filter body,need your help here, for those who would have their oil changed, kindly take pictures of the inside of the filter body,the mechanic said that the oil filter element should snugly fit the filter body there seems to be a missing rubber/gasket or something. TIA.

I don't believe in additives but my brother gave me some Waxco diesel additive last Christmas (from SM Hardware, I presume). I poured it into the tank about a week ago and I did notice some improvement. Mas gumanda hatak and pumino ang tunog.

How long did the additive have its effect? Is it recommended to use every full tank? What type of additive is it/ what does it do? Cetane enhancer or injection pump/ fuel line cleaner or both?

Oil Question

I usually buy my oil change parts from Nissan North EDSA. Due to time constraints, I had to buy my parts from Nissan Manila in Abad Santos.

Only when I got home did I realize that I did not get the usual Shell Helix Diesel 15W-40 that North EDSA gives me. Nissan Manila packaged my oil filter with Shell Helix Super 20W-50.

I called up Nissan New Manila and they insisted that they use Shell Helix Super for both gasoline and diesel engines.

Tama ba sila? I already poured the oil in... Next oil change, I'll be more careful.

If you're worried about the shell helix super, I think it can be used for both diesel and gasoline engines, similar to other oils in our market.

If you're worried about the viscosity, I guess its ok since in the service manual the viscosity is still within the range of recommended oil.



In our unit I use Mobil Delvac Mx 15W-40W since the label specifically mentioned that it is recommended for engines with EGR which our GU has, and the last time I checked I observed that it has the highest API rating compared to other oils in the local market.

During your oil change, is there any chance that you look inside the oil filter body, is there any gasket/rubber inside that would hold the filter element firmly in place? TIA

delski: medyo busy cla ngayon i just came from their shop. puno. your best bet will be to check your car in para magawa tlga nila. or meet with the people there in person forgot na who my mechanic was e. look for andrew nalang ask mo kung kaya gawan or kung may ma rerecommend cya. hirap ksi verbal over the phone lang e. lagi kasi puno e so medyo matatagalan tlga yan.

on a side note you can also try other shops which specialize in turbos and mods. de ko lang alam which ones. ask around nalng dto sa tsikot.

yah dont go casa on this one. kaya talaga to i source outside. sorry am not into turbo mods and stuff so wla tlga ako ma recom. just so happens na la syado cars sa erl nung pinagawa ko patrol ko.

Hi folks,

I inherited my dad's Patrol when he bought a new vehicle. Pansin ko lang na sobrang baho nung exhaust coming out of the Patrol. We have other diesel vehicles and talagang mapapansin mo yung difference, talagang extraordinary yung amoy although no black smoke comes out mula sa tambutso.

Its especially irritating in the mornings pag pinapainit yung kotse. Very open kasi yung house namin so the smell really gets inside the house pag matagal ng idle yung Patrol.

I'm thinking of having it inspected. Would you guys have any ideas on what the cause might be?

Discovered something else with the Patrol. The flooring in the third row is somehow getting wet for some reason.

I asked my dad's driver and he said that they speculate that it is coming from the aircon.

I would just like to ask if other patrol owners have experienced this problem.

Bought my 2001 model 2 months ago, 40k lang tinakbo. sure about that kasi neighbor ko me ari, bihira talaga magamit kaya binenta. Really have no idea with regards to the maintenance buti na lang i bump into this thread.

Just had it diagnosed today at nissan balintawak and everything was A OK.

Nilinis MAF sensor, change oils and filters. Binugahan din yung exhaust pipe ng tubig and like a miracle wala ng maitim na usok!
