question, confused kasi ako sa mga nissan casa sa pasong tamo: different ba yong Nissan UMC and Nissan CRVi? I know nandyan din sa vicinity ang Nissan Mantrade. So alin ba mas okay dyan for 50K Patrol PMS?

The better dealer would be the one beside Volvo. I think CRVi and UMC yun. Nissan Motors Philippines Inc, yung isang dealer. Specialized naman sa cars and gas variants ang NMPI. UMC sa light commercial vehicles including the Patrol.

    guys!
buhayin ko lang uli ung about sa engine oil spec, i think talaga na magbebenefit ang zd30 engine sa synthetic oil, kasi synthetic will shear less sa turbo bearing and di kaagad naluluto ung engine oil which will lead to sludge and varnish, i myself now is using redline oil sa zd30 ko, dati ung rev-x all terrain lang which is group III oil, big difference sa response ng engine, mas pino andar and less turbo lag sa rev range... kaya ko nasabi to kasi, ung last pms ng ride ko sa casa ng nissan abad santos, they ask me kung gusto ko mag synthetic sa zd30 which is i think conoco brand un, so i think obselete na ung sticker na nakalagay sa filler cap, ksi that time di pa tested ung zd30 sa synthetic and as of last 2004 recomendation ng nissan sa zd30 10w-40 semi syn and recommended... any comment? TIA, and God bless... henry

redpitz, see quoted post above about the conoco. it is mineral-based, but is like synthetic in function/quality(or something like that). page 4 has some more posts about using synthetic oil. so conoco should be fine.
personally, i would stick with the manufacturer recommended oil(mineral). i really wouldn't trust dealership recommendation that much if it goes against the manufacturer recommendation, unless they show me a service bulletin from manufacturer(Nissan Japan?) now recommending use of synthetic(is the the 2004 recomendation a Technical Service Bulletin from manufacturer Nissan?). also, who benefits when you use the more expensive synthetic oil? who benefits when your engine blows up due to use of synthetic oil? yes, it's the casa. been using mineral oil on my 6-year old patrol now, and don't see any problem with it. sorry, i see a lot of 'i think' so i guess i'll stick with mineral oil for now.

but you can use synthetic if you want, it's your ride anyway. hopefully, what you think is right.

    swordman, hi!
cool ka lang... i just want to have a discussion, about synthetic oil for our ride, update nalang ako lagi kung may pagbabago sa zd ko. i just want to share my experience sa paglagay ko ng syn oil sa zd30. sana nga positive all the way. and yes sa technical bulletin about using semi synthetic 10w40 for the zd as long as it meet b3 or jaso dh-1 requirement, hanapin ko ung post then lagay ko dito, tapos ung nakita na conoco inaalok ng abad santos sakin dati eh fully synthetic nakalagay sa bottle, daanan ko tom sa casa ng abad santos then post ko ung pics, anyway, thank you narin sa input, God bless... henry

guys, eto na po ung nabasa ko na technical recomendation sa patrol 4x4,

    First Published: 30th September 2004
    Bulletin No: MAO4-001
    Re: Revised Engine Oil Specification
    Applied Model: Y61 & D22
    Applied range: ZD3O Engines

Please be advised that the specification for the 011 fill on the ZD30 has been revised. Engine Oils that meet the specification listed below are the only oils that are permitted for use in the ZD30 Engine. 011 Specification: ACEA B3 or JASO DH.1. Nissan strongly recommend that a viscosity rating of 10W40 be used. For specific viscosity relating to ambient temperature ranges please refer to the viscosity chart in the relevant workshop manual.

Note: API CG-4 0118 must never be used In the ZD30 engine.
To support the revision in oil specification, Nissan has developed a
semi-synthetic 10W-40 engine oil that meets all the operational demands of this engine. The revision of the new oil specification is retrospective and will apply to all ZD30 engines.

The oil will be available from Nissan Parts & Accessories in 51t and 200lt Quantities using the following part numbers.
    51t- B3005-10W40PK
    2001t- B3200..10W40PK

It says 'semi-synthetic' and not FULLY synthetic.

The problem with using fully synthetic engine oil on the ZD30 engine is it can damage the seals of the engine.

    boybi, hi,

true, it a semi synthetic, but it still has synthetic in the blend, the problem is what type-

Group III -Severe Hydroprocessing and Catalytic Dewaxing, Group III base oils are subjected to the highest refining levels and while they originate from crude oil, they are chemically rearranged to offer molecular uniformity and stability for very good performance in a wide range of lubricating properties. They are commonly marketed as synthetic or mixed with lower group base oils and marketed as semi-synthetic products. Group III base oil products are increasing in popularity.

Group IV -Chemical Reactions Group IV Polyalphaolefins (PAOs), are chemically engineered synthetic base stocks. When combined with additives, they offer excellent performance over a wide range of lubricating properties. They have very stable chemical compositions and highly uniform molecular chains. Group IV base oils are commonly found in automotive and industrial applications.

Group V -As Indicated Group V base oils include all remaining non-synthetic and synthetic oils such as white oils, esters, silicones, and polyalkylene glycols. Esters are common Group V base oils used in lubricant formulations. Esters exhibit a wide variety of properties specific to each individual product. They are often used like additives to enhance the properties of other base oils.

    BASE FLUID
Property - Petrolium Oil / Organic Esters / Phosphate Esters / PAO

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Lubricity - Good / Excellent / Fair / Good

Elastomer Compatibility - Good / Fair / Poor / Excellent

Additive Response - Good / Excellent / Good / Fair

    Volatility - Fair / Excellent / Fair / Excellent

Oxidation Stability - Fair / Excellent / Fair / Excellent

Compatibility with Petroleum - Excellent / Excellent / Good / Excellent

Temperature Range - Fair / Excellent / Fair / Excellent

Fire Resistance - Poor / Good / Excellent / Fair

i'm not trying to insist that we all use syn oil, I'm just giving Facts... hope im not offending someone.

    guy,

not so sure if conoco brand, i'll just buy a 10w-30 cf, b3 rated oil from outside source, mas cheap, especially ung binibilihan ko na oil, at wholesale price. and take note, it's Group V synthetic not Group III mineral derived syn, i used to run on rev-x all terrain, until i emailed petron and they told me that's it's groupIII oil, but it is still the cheapest synthetic it the market here in the phils, around 300++ pesos, i'm still waiting permission from the other forum to post here regarding the advisory of nissan philippines regarding using synthetic oil on nissan engine. pag may approved na, post ko dito ung content...

and Swordsman, it's ok, no harm done, we are all learning here, regards, henry

If you use it only for city driving (no hard revving/offroading), change the gear oil (transfer case and differentials) only, the rest you can change it during the 30K or 40K kms PMS.

I've never used synthetic oil on my Patrol before. I logged 165K kms when I sold it and I never had any problems with the engine. If you don't do hard revs on your Patrol, I don't think you'll get a lot of benefits from using synthetic oil. And I don't think the slight improvement in fuel consumption resulting from the use of fully synthetic oil will outweight the additional cost of the synthetic oil.
