Congrats sa mga new owners ng Montero Sport.
Ask ko lang sa mga fellow Tsikoteers. Possible kaya na malagyan ng Angel Eyes ang MS natin. Saan kaya makakahanap nito?
A day after i got my GLS SE i brought it here in ilocos..I asked the mechanic at diamond motors regarding break in,he said "sir di na kelangan break in kse na break in na sa Thailand" that's why I tried how fast it is..170kph in Sctex..kaya pa!
* hello sir JPG111- thanks for sharing po. im surprised and it is my first time to hear that kind of response from a casa mechanic. if what he claims is true, then let us know if they will advise you to "still" have your oil changed during the first 1000kms. IMO, dapat hindi na because na break-in na according to your mechanic and the next change oil should be during either the 5000kms or 10000kms PMS depending on what the service manual says. in addition to that, i presume that they filled it with sythetic oil for a big engine.
as always, most of my fellow co-members at the Strada Club follow the book of break-in rules. and since the Strada and Montero Sport are made under one roof in thailand, could this apply with the Strada 2.5 and 3.2 also?
but im glad to know na kayang kaya hatawin ni Monty ang 170kph++! hehehe![]()

dami na owners ng MS! pa-grand eb na ang mga pinsan natin sa STRADA CLUB, at sali din mga MS at Outie owners!
the mechanic i asked may be wrong in answering my question..na excite yata sa pagsagot..Im not familiar about the break-in rules..what are some of the break in rules? Up to what kilometers should it be in break in? Up to what speed only? What damage could be done on my engine if i didnt follow the break in rules?
hi sir. usual rules for break-in is to maintain your speeds below 100kph, no harsh operations such as abrupt starts and panic breaking. drive normally lang po. possible damages may include premature wear and tear of components and possible engine failure. other details can be found at your owner's manual po.Enjoy the Ride... este Drive!
One of our friend got the same response sa Mitsu dealer sa La Union. I was wondering bakit ganon ata standard response nila. I don't think it is right. As ianmitsulancer recommended, take it easy with the car muna. Ako I try not to rev the engine too much during the breakin period. Parang below 2k RPM rule. This gives the engine a time to "stretch out" during the period.
I don't think mada damage agad engine mo but baka magkaroon ng long-term effect if its not properly brokein. Take it easy muna sa MS mo.
Congrats by the way and welcome to the club....![]()
IMO.. i think its just logical to have a break in period.. or else why would car companies have a first checkup at 1000km? But its more on checking the pistons, hoses, tubes, etc... Since at 1000km all those will be pumped with water, oil, gas, etc. for the 1st time. Just to see if its all working just fine and to flush out of the dirt, scraps that came along when the engine was built. There's no actual proof of this, its just my opinion and thoughts.
But about the driving below 100km/p.. that may be wrong, i'm not sure if its just mitsubishi's engines or works with other cars as well.. i read a few years back that the whole idea of the MIVEC engines is that during the "break-in" period, to drive the way you normally drive, if you drive with high revs, low revs, fast or slow.. it gets use to it and makes it its norm. So the best way to drive is driving with at high revs..(just don't floor it every chance you get, get there gradually at higher revs) it opens up the valves and etc so it gets use to it.. so later on, when u wanna drive fast, it'll go.. if you break it in with low revs, it'll in turn get use to that, and next time, when you feel like driving faster, it may not go as fast or respond as fast as those who broke it in the other way.
Possible, you can either fabricate or buy aftermarket.
since kakalabas lang ng MS, im sure wala pang aftermarket niyan
fabricate, that would mean opening up your OE headlamps(or buy an addl set of headlamps), and installing the "angel eyes"
personally i dont like those angel eyes. I suggest mag invest ka na lang sa Magandang HID, kung di ka pa kuntento pati foglamps lagyan mo din. pero wag na naman sa Hi beams![]()
For everyone's sake, take a look at your user's manual or below the hood/bonnet of your MS. it will probably say in there something about proper "break-in".
Kahit na sinabi nila na na-"break-in" na sa thailand, being gentle on accelerating, turning and braking wouldn't hurt. Plus it will return better fuel mileage.
The reason why they ask you to come back after 1000 kms is primarily for the engine. So they can drain the oil and along with the metal shavings from the cylinders.
