For the past few days, I get paranoid whenever a Monty is behind me. [emoji16]

Have a colleague who drives an AT Montero. Surprisingly, she is not aware of this issue. Because of her dedication to her work, she probably does not have time to watch the news[emoji15]. She said that she cannot change from P to D unless she is depressing the brake. Similar to my Toyota, this appears to be a safety feature that should prevent the theory of human mistake in some of these SUA cases. There's probably some truth to some of the cases. Also, during her last PM, she had a sticker/reminder from the Casa to "always depress the brake when changing from P to D" or something like that. I will confirm exactly what was written in the sticker.

I have a high school classmate who i knew bought a Montero a few years back. During our reunion more than a year ago, i asked him why he bought a new Fortuner since i knew he already had a Montero. He told me that he sold the Montero and bought the Fortuner because he got involved in an accident with the Montero. According to him, he put the transmission in Park while he waited for the light to turn green. He shifted to Drive while stepping on the brake when the light turned green. The Montero suddenly accelerated overpowering the brake and unfortunately hit a pedestrian who was a few feet in front of his car. Luckily, there were no injuries to the pedestrian but his montero had light scratches on the hood near the front bumper. He sold the Montero and bought the Fortuner. He had no clue about other drivers of Monteros experiencing sudden unintended acceleration until i told him about this thread. Nagulat siya na hindi pala unique experience niya.

I personally have no brand loyalty but i had 1 nissan (datsun), 2 hondas ( civic, CR-V), 1 Acura MDX ( when i was still living in New York) in the past. I currently drive a 2003 Honda Accord and a 2012 Mitsu Pajero BK. I have no issues with my Mitsu Pajero. I personally recommended my younger sister not to buy a Montero last year because of this thread and my classmate's experience. My elder sister on the other hand owns a 2011 Montero and so far so good.

Will my Pajero be my last Mitsubishi? Probably not. But one thing is sure, I am not going to buy the current Montero nor recommend it to other people. As for the latest generation, i would have to wait and see....

Sudden acceleration overpowering the brake, pedestrian was not seriously injured (Thank God), this do not add up. I'm not saying it's not true but it shows how complicated this issue is. Maybe the SUA event seized abruptly as it started, saving the poor pedestrian.

I never bothered to ask him how he disposed the Montero. I believe what he had told me about his Montero having known him for more than 2 decades. That was the final nail in the coffin as to why I strongly advised my younger sister about buying the Montero. Mas cheaper daw kasi yung Montero GLX compared to the Fortuner plus she liked the way the Montero looks but my younger sister also knew my classmate so she passed on the Montero. Yung sa elder sister ko naman, well sinabi ko na sa Bro in law ko pero wala naman daw nangyayari sa Montero nila, so bahala na sila. i just hope they wont figure in an accident

We have to assume that they are looking after the public's interest as the reason for not letting up on this issue. It's a safety concern after all.

Acceleration overpowering the brake could mean that the SUV could have traveled as fast as 100 km/h sa speedometer OR 1 km/h. As long as tumakbo yung SUV, kahit gaano kabagal ang ibig pong sabihin nung overpowering the brakes........ hindi naman kelangan tumakbo ng 100 km/h para sabihing overpowering the brakes

I have already met a veteran member of this forum who in turn, personally knew the admins here sa Tsikot. I met him personally sa Trinoma because he had prior experience sa isang business that i was interested in opening up....
