Problem talaga ng mga casa is they tend to overprice it too much, got this from Kia Technician times which prices it (retail) $4.50- $6.00 / liter.. waaaa

Terrible! Sometimes, you really cannot blame some owners for not going to casa. Its good talaga that there is a forum like this. Nagkakaroon ng alternatives in problems maintaining our vehicles.

    Thanks everyone for really sharing!

Hi - am new in this forum (and in car forums in general). I am buying an SUV in the next 2-3 months, and seriously considering Sorento, thus am doing my window shopping as early as now.

Last Saturday, I visited the Kia dealer in Edsa, near Edsa Crossing, and the Salesperson their showed me the 2007 units. The models are beautiful, clean lines, (me pagka Volvo)..

Anyway, the Salesperson and I got into serious discussion on the Sorento features as compared to the Santa Fe and Fortuners. Her mentioned (rather claimed) that the 2007 models are equipped with VG turbo. The brochures doesnt actually show the VGT specs, but he claims that the 2007 model (EX, 2,5 L diesel) are already equipped with this type of turbo, so much so that the power rating, which shows a 140 HP in the brochure, is actually 170 HP - 30 HP due to the VGT.

Has anyone checked this claim.. is there any physical difference (for verification) as to the built of this VGT ?

The other feature he mentioned is that the new Sorento is using ladder type chassis - is there any advantage to this feature ?

    Appreciate your inputs.. maraming salamat.

hmm, I doubt this, although our (even the newer one) CRDI Sorento's are turbo equipped, but they are not VGT, probably Kia Edsa got the newer model?

    Good Day everyone!

May minor query lang ako tungkol sa aircon vent ng Sorento. Everytime I start the engine, the vents are always open. Pag nakalimutan i-press di masyado lumalamig and of course I get to smell outside air. Dati naman, close sya pag start ko. Any procedure that i forgot to do or do I have to go to the casa to have it reprogrammed.

    Thanks!

PROS: Can withstand more pounding that a monocoque. Has better chances of being repaired after a crash compared to a monocoque. Better for towing.

CONS: Can be the source of rattles due to inherent flex in the frame. Less space efficient than a monocoque. Has a tendency to not score well in laboratory crash tests (generally does well enough in the real world).

Having a ladder frame is quite a moot point since a lot of the competition are also running ladder frames (e.g. Fortuner, Montero Sport). Only the car based SUV's are monocoques (Santa Fe, Rav4, CRV, etc.). The Grand Vitara is a mix between ladder frame and monocoque but is still technically classified as a monocoque.

VGT models have a VGT badge on the fender.

Everytime I start the engine, the vents are always open.
I think this was discussed some pages ago. I forgot if it can be reprogrammed. The Sorento's set up is more like a European car which defaults to fresh air mode when shut down.

Otep - thanks for the info. Still on VGT (might as well ask this in this forum) the Santa Fe's specs says its VGT and is written on the brochure, no badge though. Would you know if this is true ?

Yep, the Sta. Fe is VGT. It does not really need a badge as all diesel Santa Fe's are VGT units unlike the Sorento which is availble with a fixed geometry turbocharger.

    Hi CRG

What i do is turn the aircon off before turning off the engine, in that way, it remembers its last known settings when you turn it on....

    --------------

Btw, I saw sa sorento V6 for sale at a used car dealer. 2005 model priced at P850 thou. Don't know the mileage though. My point lang is, parang masyado low ang pricing ng vehicle considering its features, naka-focus na lang yata sa gas mileage per liter. Anyway, just a comment.

Sa unit ko, it will automatically set the vents to open maski na it was in recirculate mode ng turn off ko ang engine. It's good naman if you'll park the car sa mga open parking para di mag build up ang init sa loob. Kaya lang as what CRG mentioned, pumapasok ang amoy. I don't know too if casa can change the setting of the vents.

    Hi Gregg!

Sorry for the late reply, quite busy the past 2 days.

Tried it bro but open pa rin ang vents. Will ask Kia on my next check-up.

I saw in one Sorento site the 2007 Sorento headlamp with LED signal lights and HID. I just don't know if it will fit the older Sorento model. Sporty at astig ang dating. Checked with my dealer pero wala pa daw sila. Gregg_g kung mapadaan ka sa sabi mo na vendor ng Sorento accessories sa cebu paki check naman. TIA

Thanks gregg_g! At least mag mukhang updated naman Sorie natin. Sa ibang ammenities medyo okay na unit natin at di naiiwan sa mga bagong car tech that's being introduced ngayon.
