Having started my own family (late na po ko nag-asawa, as in last March lang at 39 yrs of age) I was contemplating on buying an SUV but noticed Carnival/Sedona. So, i'm giving it a serious thought, i have been reading reviews mostly from australia or US and I find it puzzling that it seems that I only read good things about the carnival in this thread. The reviews from other countries are mostly negative (as in bad). Most of the problems with the Carnival come out at 100K mileage like engine breakdowns and other serious stuff. I have my eye on a carnival being sold and it said that its a 2006 model 2.9 turbo. Now tell me, do i have anything to worry about? I will be getting a loan to buy it and I would really like to get my moneys worth.

    hi tankerpipes,
get the details ng 2006 carnival. is it the local version or imported version?
    ilan na mileage?
i have an 2004 sedona local version, so far ok naman sya and very comfortable yung ride, especially that i use it for long drive trips.
malaki nga lang ang turning radius nya and yung sliding door handle is madaling mag break lalo na pag di alam ng nag-oopen at nagsasara coz may safety lock sya. minsan nabibigla ng mga passengers.
so far, ok yung ride and handling, very smooth unlike ng ibang vans and your kids will love it. mine has captain seats sa 1st and 2nd row.

try to look din yung lumabas ba sedona gold, yun ang unang crdi na lumabas ng carnival/sedona prior to the new one na naka display sa mga KIA centers. i believe meron sa pampanga since ang dami na ng koreans dun.

    good luck on your hunting!

    regards.

    tankerpipes,

get the sedona, kahit na mahal ng konti sa gen1 carnival. you'll be better off with it. because most of the problems that plagued the gen1 was solved when they released the sedona.

    All,

Haven't posted for a while and I was wondering if anyone can provide me a photo of the fuse box both at the main engine and inside the van. I have an imported 2002 KIA Carnival Park II and everything is in Korea. I have been sent a copy before by my computer crashed so I lost my copy.

I would greatly appreciate if anyone can provide me a photo. If you can send it to ericm_men*yahoo.com. Thanks.

hi guys! i hope walang nabaha sa mga carnival forumers

anyone who experienced changing the power antenna mast of carnival? last week na-stuck yung antenna ng akin, i pulled out the mast and i discovered that the nylon lead of the antenna is smooth unlike the ones i saw in the internet which have teeth. ganun ba talaga yung antenna natin or napudpud lang talaga yung sa akin (which i doubt dahil the nylon lead is really smooth without any hint that it used to have teeth)? right now di pa ako nakakuha ng pamalit (i think the motor is okay as i can hear it running, parang dumudulas lang yung nylon lead).

another thing i would like to share is the diy parking brakes release cable replcement that i did. (i think it was sir mikey who had problem with the same cable before, not sure though). i just replaced mine with an ordinary bicycle brake cable, cost me just 20 php and around 30 minutes to install.

yung iba minor na. baka me maisip pa ko dagdag ko na lang :D

as for number 2, this is my current dilemma. My car broke down at the mall yesterday, di ko naiuwi. It turns out ayaw magcharge ng battery, had the IC and battery (outlast 3sm, 15 or 16 plates na) changed 2 months or so ago nung nagovergcharging naman yung previous IC kaya pati batt nasira. Suggestion ng suking technician upgrade na lang daw ako to 110 amperage na alternator para one-time gastos na lang. what do you think? I tried canvassing before sa torreja surplus in evangelista 5.5k quote sa akin do you have an idea kung ano sasakyan compatible sa atin? starex, pregio or mb100? kainis di ko magamit van ko, sa sat pa ako sasamahan ng technician bumuli ng alternator.

    thanks in advance

    Atlas: 20hr capacity 100amps, 5hr capacity 80 amps, CCA 900, L-325, W-172, H-200.

To compare, Motolite Gold MF N70/3smf battery has the following specs: AH 75 amps, CCA 565, L-306, W-171, H-202.

    Outlast battery N70 AH 90, CCA 400, L-306, W-170, H-230.

There is no MF type 6smf battery, only low maintenance.

    Motolite Low maintenance N100/6smf battery has the following specs: AH 105, CCA625, L-420, W- 176, H-190.

    Outlast battery N100/6smf AH 120, CCA-530, L-410, W-170, H230.

The length itself of a regular 6smf battery will not fit in the battery space in the carnival or sedona. So you will be forced to install a 3smf battery, which is underpowered both on the AH and CCA. With the newer engines, start up requirements are greater, and that is where the CCA comes in. Based on the OEM battery, mataas ang CCA standard. So if you put a smaller battery, you cause your battery and alternator to work harder.

This is what I learned the hard way with my ex-sedona, and recently learned the hard way also with my innova. Ganun din ang problema. Naghahanap ng mataas na CCA. Buti na lang kasya ang 3smf sa innova, kaya I bought a 3smf standard size rather than a 2smf high CCA compact size na pareho ang presyo. Take note the toyota casa where I am located have shifted to rocket brand for the high CCA requirement of their crdi's, from OEM oriental.

Will upgrading to a 110amp solve the problem in the event I am using an underpowered 3sm batt like outlast N70? Eto din kasi dilemma ko right now, nasira na naman alternator ko (not charging) after I replaced the IC 2 to 3 mos. back dahil naman sa overcharging. Since nasira din batt ko, I bought a 3sm outlast batt not knowing na kapos pala yun since medyo late na nadiscuss sa thread about the batt requirement of our carnival.

mikey177, you should start charging fees for these photos

soluna_17::: altec gave me the following contact more than a year ago. this company supplies the atlas batteries to metromanila:
    MVCP Bio & Energy Resources
    028875642

i had a hard time reaching them thru long distance, though. i just bought a thai?/korea? made battery (PUMA DELKOR) with similar specs in baguio. so far, so good.

thanks so much bro! tried calling them asap, but was told that they moved out already.

I think delkor is a korean brand. Just spoke to a dealer in banawe (jawe mktg) over the phone, srp is around 6,600. What are the specs of the batt did you get? They were offering me a 3sm with 100A and 650-700 CCA. Is this the same one that you got?

feel free to make some inputs when you are online

    Hi mga sir:
For the battery, just buy a AC Delco 3SM N95 which cost around 6,500. And the CCA is 775. I change my alternator as I have problem with my alternator that overcharge 2 years ago upgrade to 105A. I bought a second one some where in a shop sa mga sidestreet sa Banaue for P3500. I don't have problem until now. I am driving a Carnival Park II AT.

i don't see any specs on the battery itself.

i remember the shop's manager showing me the specs off the shop's brochure. but suffice to say that it adheres closely to the original

    Rocket: SMF1000= AH 20hrs 100, AH 5 hrs 80, CCA 870, L-330 W-172, H-232.

here"s a pic of it sitting in my dirty engine bay:

you might also find this quote from www.bmwcarclub.org.ph interesting.

For BMWs with batteries in the trunk, the correct size is almost always a DIN88, including ones for E46, E39, X5. The dimensions are 353 x 175 x 175/190 mm. A battery labeled DIN100 or 60038 would also have the same dimensions.

    There are plenty of choices:
    Motolite Gold DIN88, 85Ah, 157 RC, P6,750
    ACDelco S58515, DIN88, 85Ah, 158 RC, P6,600-P7,800
    Delkor 58515, DIN88, 88Ah
    Delkor 60038, DIN100/DIN60038, 100Ah, P7,500
    Bosch S4, DIN100, 100Ah, P8,900
    Magic Power 55815, DIN88, 85/88Ah, P6,600
    FB 58815, DIN88, P5,550
    Puma DIN88, 85/88Ah, P5,000
    Puma DIN100, 100Ah, P5,700

    Soluna,

Sorry, over a month ako hindi naglog in sa tsikot forums. Upgrading your alternator's capacity is not the solution. If your alternator's upgraded to 110amps, pero your battery is still small, the alternator will be forced to work more often because the battery needs to be recharged more often. That's the reason why magshorten ang life span ng alternator, and its usually the IC that goes first.

I will check with my local supplier (in Cebu) kung sino yung contact nila sa Manila for the compact SMF100 batteries. Check ko rin kung magkano dito. I tried to purchase one for Diesoline, pero the problem, dapat ipadala by boat, bawal pala ipa airfreight. I offered it to Diesoline before na dadalhin ko sa manila on one of my trips, bawal pala.

    tankerpipes,

if you will buy a sedona/carnival, it is better to get the park II with crdi engine. The problem with the local sedona/carnival, is the non crdi engine. Kia casa admits the J3 non crdi engine is not durable. Even those surplus importers said the same thing. But the carnival park II with crdi engine like what diesoline has, has much better feedback.

With my sedona, I checked with the Kia Casa that I traded it in. I traded it in because they couldn't fix my almost 2 year old problem with its engine. The last problem was that namamatay yung makina from a high rpm level, then pagneutral, the engine cannot hold the idling, namamatay while mobiling, and when the engine dies, all the power (steering, brakes, lights) wala! Mga gago talaga. When they sold it, the prospective buyer experienced it during the road test. Kia casa then said na ang kulang na lang na hindi nila napalitan, yung wire harness between the computer and the injection pump. Nung pinalitan nila, ayun, wala na ang problema. IDIOTS! Over a year na ginastosan ko paayos, wire harness lang pala! Isa pa ang problema ng Kia. Its not so much the car that is not durable, but more of the mechanic nila tanga. They rely too much with their laptop to tell them what's wrong. In my case, kasi nga loose contact ang wire harness, kaya pala hindi makita ng laptop ang problema, kasi di nagreregister sa laptop.

Have your rides fixed by a good mechanic, or a good shop.
