I've hit 165 km/h on the Skyway with my M/T Pica (and that's with the aircon on). Very stable. No complaints.
This 852kg (manual) car will blow most 1300cc cars because of its good power to weight ratio.
In fact, now is a good time to buy it because there is plenty of units available but no takers. Now you can dictate your terms. Hehehehe. Due to their scupulous schemes in the past. ITs not the cars fault its the dealers fault.
It is also voted the "most economical car" in europe . Check out the link at www.kiamotors.com
I had my pica since Sept 2004 and I can atttest to its superior maintenance expenditures and fuel economy.
Test drive it, check the specs, shop around for the best dealer. I recommend the manual tranny because it is lighter and fun to drive.

Yes plenty of units because the price now is above 400K. And now you have a chose between Getz and Picanto.Originally Posted by rodski

i would go for Getz than picanto, almost same interior sila but larger trunk space at leg room ang Getz, mas mataas yung driver seat ng Getz, mas maganda din yung design ng ng interior, 2 cupholder in front of shift stick, at the back of hand brake meron slot for phones and other electronic device, and nandun na din yung liter slot wala sa dash board.
at nice package kasama na sa Getz 1.1 and 1.3 ang Power Window at Indash CD Player. finaly 2 years mini car of the year sa australia at may high marks with euro standars and #7 sa pinakamalaking car company sa buong mundo. ano pa hahanapin mo?![]()
Last week may test drive ako with hyundai after dumertso kami sa kia makati kakadisapont lang is mejo cocky at wala sa ayos ang sales rep. maybe dahil indemand sila... pro yun din naman ang yabang nya sakin na sobrang dami daw bumibili at award wining sa europe.
pro we resorted to Suzuki jimny dahil sa durability.![]()
oo nga pla mas stylish and interior ng Getz, at may mga available na upgrade kits sa body. alarm, side miror, spoiler with lights, mags, wiper, metalic panel (dashboard, power window switches)... mag cool dba?at may mga free drive test unlike picanto.

kaso we go for jimny GF ko kasi user and also i have a good history with korean cars mahilig kasi korean cars sa plastic na malutong kaya madaling masira my 1999 mdl na sedan from korea na cra na lahat ng pastic parts... sigh...
Someone requested for an owners review. I got an almost 11months old Picanto logging about 22,500km on the odometer so here's my reply. Just remember that this review is my own impressions on my own Picanto. It does not necessarily reflect any other Picanto's performance.

Driving condition has changed. Since June 2005, I leave at 6AM from Bocaue, take daughter to school first then off to work in Ortigas Center. Get caught up in traffic at Camachile and Cubao, things I didn't encounter last year when I leave straight forwork at 5AM. (There is something very satisfying taking your child to school on your car. I wouldn't miss it for all the gas price increase.)
Typical Daily Route : Bocaue provincial road- North Diversion- EDSA- Ortigas and back.
Farthest distance traveled: Bocaue to Baguio City and back.
Worst road condition: Gov Halili Provincial Road (Bocaue) during this rainy season. Terrible dust accumulation and mud and especially knee-deep potholes! Well, maybe that's too much. But people who drive on this road knows what I mean.
Car comfort:
Except for the noise in the plastic panels, car's overall comfort has remained almost the same as when it was brand new. Aircon cooling power, suspension, steering, engine noise (or lack thereof), all ok. Please understand that this comparison is based on the car's own brand-new performance. This will not hold true if you compare the Picanto with any other type of car.
Things I replaced: A busted light for the plate number. All others, all stock.
Complaints:
1. Various noise in the plastic panels which I hunted and fixed:
(a) Loose wire harness of the stereo- tied
(b) Grating noise between plastic door panels- applied silicon spray
(c) Grating noise in the stereo compartment- inserted piece of foam between stereo housing and compartment
(d) Vibrating noise on the manual door locks- applied silicon spray
2. Initial bad smell of fan air
(a) Remedy of the dealer which didn't work- remove acu filter and keep thermostat at max cool
(b) My remedy which didn't work- fummigation with anti-mold and mildew.
(c) My remedy which worked- keeping the car interior as clean as I can (including vacuumming and washing of seat covers), removing all aromatic substances including car fresheners from the car, exposing the interior to direct sunlight for several hours on weekends, blow-drying the aircon ducts and evaporator on fan with heater on (compressor off) for at least 3 minutes every night when I arrive home. I also got an air ionizer on the lighter socket but frankly, I don't know if it really works.
3. Occasional knocking sound under the dash when I turn a corner. Still to be fixed.
4. Occassional vibration of shift stick on 4th gear when accelerating. Still to be fixed.
Items 3 and 4 are "now you see, now you don't" type of events.
Rust: As far as I can see, none on the body panels or under the car.
But there is one I only found out just now, on a black painted piece of metal under the rubber gasket that is exposed when you open the hood. Open the hood and you will see a strip of rubber that is lining the rim of the opening near the windshield. Flip this rubber and you will see the edge of this black metal. There was rust there. My remedy: painted it with black. This piece of metal's only purpose I think was to give mechanical support for the plastic grill under the hood. WARNING! The edge of this metal is very sharp!
Q and A:
1. On a scale of 10, what was your overall satisfaction? 9.
2. How do you rate your dealer? 8.
3. What was your fastest speed? 140km/hour then I chicken out.
4. Is your family happy with the car? Yes. They love it.
5. Is it worth your investment of P330th? Definitely, hehehe.
6. Would you recommend it now at P415th? It's still a good alternative to a 2nd hand car. There's the Getz of course, but it's a matter of taste. Though they're both similarly priced minis, the Picanto has the looks and personality all its own. You could say the same thing to any other car, of course.
7. Why did you not complain about the cassette stereo? It's fine for traffic reports and listening to the funny DJ banters at those silly FM stations. When I wanted special music, I simply use my tiny Samsung MP3/WMA personal player.
8. What part of the car do you like best? The silver-coated rim cover. It's not really silver but it does give that shimmering effect that makes my car stand out in the parking lot when I walk to it at night.
Mababaw lang pala ang kaligayahan mo? At mababaw din ang bulsa ko, eheheh!
Seriously, I hope this owner's review provided some useful info to fellow Tsikoteers. More power to Tsikot.com. Thanks a lot for this space!
That's my daughter in the picture.

Agree that trunk space of the Pica is at a premium, but personally I find the interior of the Getz a bit old looking compared to the Pica (I esp. like the fact that the center console is angled towards the driver - a la BMW). FYI the Picanto also has the 2 cupholders in front of the shift stick, as well as another cupholder behind the hand brake. The Pica even has an open shelf above the glove box, as well as various little spaces under the dashboard for cell phones, umbrellas and other abubot.Originally Posted by jamesvhong
Lastly, the power-to-weight ratio of the 1.1 Pica is a lot better than the 1.1 Getz. In fact, the 1.1L engine is the largest engine currently offered for the Pica (since in the UK a 3-cyl 1.0 L is available), while for the Getz, the 1.1L is the smallest available engine (may 1.5L pa nga). IMHO the 1.1L Getz is still a pretty good deal at P419k since you get power windows and larger trunk space, but do expect it to be a bit sluggish vis-a-vis a manual tranny Pica.
to all picanto owners,
i just read this (ref: http://www.autoindustriya.com/inews.php?id=466)
Kia Picanto 1.1 LX rated ‘most economical car’ in European survey
August-2-2005
A regular survey* of motoring costs by the highly respected ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil Club) has recently revealed that the Kia Picanto is Germany’s “most economical car” with four seats in the A-segment. Using the ADAC’s database of 5,500 new cars, the data of the survey confirms the conclusion that the total annual ownership costs for a Kia Picanto 1.1 LX five-door hatchback was 4,537 Euros or just 30.2 cents per kilometer -- making it the economic champion of Germany in its class.
For the survey, published in April 2005, the total annual ownership costs were calculated over a four year period, covering 15,000 kilometers each year, and include purchase price, depreciation, residual value, scheduled servicing and maintenance, fuel, tires, brakes, insurance, taxes and VAT.
According to Yong-Hwan Kim, Senior Executive Vice President and COO of Kia Motors Corporation, “Since bursting onto the scene and taking the automotive world by storm in 2003, the overwhelmingly popular Picanto has been one of our global top sellers, with over 70,780 units sold in 2004. And through the first six months of the current year, the Picanto has been our best seller in overseas markets, with over 56,530 units delivered.”
Jean-Charles Lievens, Senior Vice President Kia Europe, said, “The Picanto was created with European consumers in mind. It was designed to appeal to their hearts and emotions as well as their sense of style, while delivering a lively drive with a spacious cabin and high levels of safety. The Picanto is also one of the cleanest, least-polluting cars in Europe with a CO2 rating of just 118 g/km.
“Now, we have independent confirmation that those numerous appealing attributes are also backed up by long-term low ownership costs. Picanto sales in Europe so far this year have reached more than 45,000 units and this latest endorsement from the ADAC will encourage further rises in demand for what is already our most popular model,” concluded Mr. Lievens.
As well as beating the 10 closest rivals (shown in the table below) the Kia Picanto performed better than well established models from several major European manufacturers including Renault (Twingo 1.2, 32.0 cents), Ford (Ka 1.3. 32.1 cents), Opel (Agila 1.0, 32.4 cents), Volkswagen (Lupo 3L TDI, 33.6 cents) and Smart (Roadster 0.7 , 38.8 cents).
... It was designed to appeal to their hearts and emotions as well as their sense of style...![]()

Wow! Nice Babe, I mean nice car, heheh. Thumbs up to you Sun Tzu!
A bit of welcome news for Picanto owners. The Picanto ACU air filter is now available. I just came from Kia Signet Mandaluyong where I had them look at my car regarding my previous complaints (occassional vibrating of stick shift on 4th gear and knocking sound on the dash when I turn a corner. They said they've been fixed. Remains to be seen later on NLE and Bocaue Road.)
Tanong ko kung meron na bang ACU air filter and yes, they stock them now! P350 each. I could swear nag-amoy brand new agad yung loob ng kotse after I replaced the acu filter, eheheh. According to the manual it should be replaced every 15000 km but often if driving conditions are worse. Of course, you could recycle it as I did with my old filter which I thoroughly wash everytime.
Ahh... cool, fresh-filtered air once again!![]()
Nice post, Sun Tzu!

I always doubt Korean technology. In my humble opinion, the Koreans are fast catching up, BUT, they are still not there yet. If I would to be shopping for a BUDGET car in the next 2-3 years, my choice would still be Japanese and it would either be a Honda or a Toyota, never a Korean.
Peace.
sa mga picanto owners na try nyo na po bang magpa engine wash? kc ung picanto ko 2,900 kilometers pa lang ntatakbo ko maalikabok na agad ung engine. Mag 1 year na nga pala sa akin ung picanto ko.
