The 2011 Kia Sedona: Designed to carry eight passengers in total comfort
Back for 2011, the Sedona has acquired some minor changes. For the exterior, a new tiger-nose grille along with new 16" wheel covers for SWB models, and standard 17" alloy wheels for LWB models. Rounding out the changes for the exterior include a modified hood and mirror integrated turn signals. New for the interior are Bluetooth® wireless technology, standard steering wheel audio controls eight-passenger seating, Supervision gauges for EX models, and an EcoMinder™ indicator. Under the hood there are two new engines, and a new six-speed transmission.
Superior Performance
For 2011, Sedona has two new engines for under the hood. A standard 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine produces an outstanding 276 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque, and has improved fuel economy of 20/27 mpg city/highway. A gasoline direct injection (GDI) 2.4L engine also joins the powertrain options for 2011. Available as an option on all trims, this engine produces 200 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque with fuel economy rated at 22/31 mpg city/highway, the perfect option for the fuel-efficiency minded consumer. Both aluminum block engines are mated to a new six-speed Sportmatic™ transmission with a four-wheel independent suspension, designed to be more rewarding to drive than its competitors.
Sedona’s four-wheel independent suspension system is comprised of MacPherson struts with coil springs and a stabilizer bar in the front, while the rear uses a multi-link design with coil springs and a stabilizer bar.
Stopping power comes from a power-assisted four-wheel-disc braking system with large-diameter vented front disc brakes (11.7 inches) and solid rear disc brakes (11.9 inches). Sedona models come standard with 16-inch steel wheels and 225/70R16 tires on all SWB models, and 17-inch alloy wheels fitted to 235/60R17 tires are standard for LWB LX and EX models.
Spacious, Adaptable and Comfortable
Competitively sized, the eight-passenger LWB Sedona’s generous dimensions and unibody construction offer impressive passenger and luggage space and sophisticated ride and handling. Adding to its space and versatility, a flip-and-fold center second row seat provides easy access to third row seating on LWB versions. A simple-to-operate 60/40-split folding-into-the-floor third row seat is standard on all LWB models to create a larger flat cargo area, while a 50/50-split folding, removable third row seat is standard on the SWB model.
The LWB Sedona comes in two trim levels – LX and EX – while the SWB version comes in a base model. All Sedonas maintain Kia’s tradition of high value by offering a generous list of standard features and amenities. Besides standard SIRIUS Satellite Radio with three months complimentary service², ABS, six airbags and a six-speed Sportmatic™ transmission, the SWB Sedona and LWB Sedona LX also comes standard with air conditioning, sliding doors with power windows, power mirrors with turn signal indicator, power door locks, EcoMinder™ Indicator, cruise control, steering wheel audio controls, Bluetooth® Wireless Technology, an AM/FM/CD/MP3/Sat audio system that includes an auxiliary and USB-MP3 input jack, captain’s chairs and flip-up middle seat for the second row and keyless entry. A back-up warning system is also standard on LWB models, and is used to alert the driver of an object in close proximity to the vehicle.
The LWB Sedona EX adds fog lamps, new 17" alloy wheels, six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, four-way power-adjustable passenger’s seat, heated power mirrors, Supervision gauge cluster, an eight-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with auxiliary input jack, auto-dimming rear view mirror with HomeLink®, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power rear quarter glass, trip computer with compass and a roof rack. The 2011 LWB Sedona EX also brings with it a standard rear view camera in addition to the back-up warning system to help the driver better see surroundings and reverse more safely.
In addition to the LX and EX model standard equipment, the LWB Sedona offers several option packages for maximum convenience and entertainment. The Power Package, available only on the LWB LX, offers dual power sliding doors and the rear view camera. The Luxury Package, available on the LWB EX, combines leather seats, heated front seats, power-adjustable pedals, driver’s memory seat, mirrors and adjustable pedals, tri-zone automatic temperature control, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and a sunroof. Additional options on the LWB Sedona include a 660-watt premium entertainment system featuring a DVD player with an eight-inch monitor and a 13-speaker Infinity® surround sound system, navigation system (on EX models with Luxury Package and/or Premium Entertainment Package), roof rails and floor mats.
Ang tanong...is this carried over to units exported to the Philippine market?
Since all carnival are being imported from Korea, lets see kung facelifted na ang pinadala dito... Huwag naman sanang reason for price increase.
meron na ba nag change tires na? mine is going 35k....ano ang ok na brand?
When my 3rd baby arrived last Jan, I already thought that my family would have a hard time fitting in our Innova. So for the last few months I had been scanning and reading about all the available minivans, auv's, full size vans, mpv's and even suv's that can fit in my budget. Actually, wala pa talagang plans. I was leaning on either a Grandia GL or Grand Starex. But even if I knew my family would fit easily, the thought of driving either of them didn't really sti too well with me. I concluded that all others I considered (Crosswind, Fuzion, Fortuner, Grandis, Serena, etc.) could give me some regrets later on. Gusto ko lang comfortable and maayos - syempre yung hindi pangit. In fairness naman, wala naman talaga akong masabing pangit sa mga pinag isipan ko. Then 3 weeks ago, I happened to be at V-Mall where a Carnival was being displayed by Kia Ortigas. I never really gave Carnival much thought before so I decided to go and check it out (even if I was late for a commitment already). I found myself liking the van the more I explored it. What held me back was the price - a bit out of my budget (the LX LWB was P1.595m) - though all-in na ito kasama insurance with acts of god, lto, tint, matting and chattel fee. So nagpa quote and estimate lang ako then I left. Obviously I told my wifey how much I was impressed as soon as I got home. So that was that and I was just happy to have "discovered" the Carnival that I knew was the right car for us.
Then last week (sat), I got a call from the sales agent at Kia Ortigas who told me that they were giving a whopping P100k discount to anyone who orders a unit until sunday only. Medyo bumilis ang heartbeat ko when I heard that. After all, P100k discount is unheard of - in any car brand. Wala din binawas sa freebies.
Next day, I was able to convince my wife to go Theatre Mall with me to see the Kia display there. We went, she saw, she checked, she felt, she even rode (yup they had a test drive unit waiting in the parking lot). To cut the long story short, we made a small deposit that afternoon and by tuesday, I am picking up what I feel is to be the best minivan out there - best bang for the buck !![]()
Bernie, medyo pareho tayo, before wala talaga sa list ko ang kia carnival, kahit asking or checking it out...wala talaga... but when I checked out the interiors and checking the reviews..I decided na the carnival is the car for my family.
Congratulations!

Thanks Isuzoom, I took delivery of the unit last Tuesday. Kunwari pa ako di excited eh pero actually di ako masyado nakatulog the night before hehe. While driving it home, I really felt the softness of the ride as well as the solid build feel. Yun nga lang, may naririnig ako na parang may naka loose na bolt or part under the right passenger door. Medyo rinig sya pag dumaan sa lubak or edsa. Pag smooth ang road you cant hear it. Mahina lang pero andun. Brought it back to Kia Ortigas and test drove it with the sales agent. Wala sya marinig kasi umikot lang ng tendesitas and smooth road. But on the way back to our place, we passed by edsa and andun na naman ang sound - parang "tokolok" or "tok" pag dumadaan sa konting lubak. Anyway, told the sales agent that if I hear it again dadalin ko ulit so their mechanical guy can test it (wala kanina). Minor lang naman ito and mukhang bihira mangyari (malas ko lang ?) but overall, I am impressed with the ride (I drove it, then rode beside driver and then sat at the back) - all places are very comfortable - first night lang I took the family for a spin nakatulog na mga kids ko sa likod hehe. The best part is the driving pa rin - talagang meant to be driven din sya. So there's my initial experience - good luck with yours and it is a good decision !
Thanks imperialv, let me do that - will let you know what happens. Appreciate it !
sir, check nyo po yun spare tire... ganun din na experience ko, kanda lokoloko kami kahahanap, yun pala, konting tighten lang dun sa bolt ng spare tire. its on the floor lang sa rear right passenger side. sa paanan meron plastic cover na rectangular ata or oblong ba yun....... kala ko nga yun tunog dati was on the under chassis.... hope it helps...

Carnival SWB Ex 3 year old owners comments:
First one to give in are the brake pads.
Next are the automatic doors
Then the wheels...
then the alternator.
These are the things you should monitor
new owners.
*totoyap8
the wheels went after 3 years? Could you give more info pls.
Well, sa brakes i can understand if it goes out 3 years - I know mabilis mapudpod pag automatic, but Im just referring to the brake pads here, if its something else then hindi ko din alam. Sa wheels naman, I read somewhere that since all imported itong van natin that means pati tires kasama. So the Kumho tires on it were not designed talaga for our type of heat and weather (tropical) so mas mabilis daw bibigay. Auto sliding doors...I think mangyayari din talaga but maybe not entirely because of the car/motor, but also human factor. When I test drove the carnival, the test drive unit was an EX - eh hindi ko alam so at first I decided to ride at the back. The agent/driver didn't tell me that it was automatic so I was really trying to pull it out manually - nagtataka ako bakit ang tigas so talagang pinipilit ko. Im just saying that if this happens to the auto sliding door ng madalas, then quite possible na bumigay din ang motor ng mabilis. Don't know if this was the experience of totoyap. If not, maybe you can enlighten us more...
As far as the "katok" sound that I was complaining about on the right passenger side, I drove the unit just last night and I don't think I heard it much anymore. The only thing done was I had seatcovers installed last thursday. So baka tama ka imperialv - I will continue to observe sana wala na talaga. Thanks also for your suggestion to teejay...appreciate it.
Posts here are really helpful - keep it up !
For the worn brake pads, well I think I agree also, considering it's just normal for an automatic transmission vehicle.
For the Automatic Doors, Well It could be human factor. But considering it's mileage at that time of only 20t km for 2 years. You could say i hardly even use my carnival.
The Tires? i noticed it when i was driving my carnival, i noticed a slight vibration at certain speeds. i had it checked and the alignment and balancing was found to be ok. it so happened an experienced technician noticed that my tires looked deformed or oblong. considering it's low mileage and the threads were still ok. I wasn't expecting that. Tires were KUMHO original 17"
My alternator? it suddenly wouldn't charge the battery.
All in all. I would say that this car compared to all my previous vehicle purchases had the most time in the CASA shop. But in fairness KIA warrantied all the items except for the tires and the brake pads.
Ride and Performance is ok no question. But long term reliability i still have few doubts personally.
