To: c2c - Well, nasa 465kms pa lang ako now - mostly being used by kids within the city lang. But I have rode in it enough (driven and ride) to declare that it is really worth it. Don't forget that Kia has the longest warranty in the industry - 5 years or 160,000 kms whichever comes first. That kind of put my mind at ease somewhat since medyo nag hesitate pa ako buying my first Korean vehicle. The ride comfort is simply superb. Handling is tops in my book. Masasanay ka din sa lapad and haba (if you're getting a lwb).

I still have my Innova. No comparison talaga. Its two different vehicles altogether. I like the Innova pa din but if I compare both, it wouldn't be fair to the Innova since the Carnival would blow it away in all aspects. Depende talaga sa needs mo - in my case, I needed a bigger vehicle for a growing family.

My only concern is that my FC is still high. Not sure pero parang nasa 4kms/ltr lang. Maybe because of city driving ? Reading from past threads though, looks like this will stabilize after more use.

Right now, I am very happy with the vehicle I cant wait to "break it in" before summer ends

[quote=c2c;1476552]Bernie.... how's your carnival? Good decision ba talaga? Have you read past thread that Kia will stop production in 2011 of Carnival? Naguguluhan na ako of what to buy....Carnival or Sorento...I think the price is not that far anymore[/quote

c2c, I called my agent at Kia Ortigas just this morning to ask about the Carnival being discontinued on 2011. He was quite adamant in saying that there is no such thing and there is no truth to that. Carnival is one of their bread and butter units. I tried to do a little research and didn't find anything about it as well. So I am inclined to believe na di naman siguro.
I also called him to ask about my license plate - 1 month na wala pa ...

My carnival is 2 years old. 24T km mileage. SWB LX. It's same length as innova but a lot larger and roomier. I initially wanted a LWB but decided against it to avoid parking problems. In fairness to innova, it may not put up with carnival but it cost a lot less. I drove it all the way to pagudpud back in '08 and my 4 kids loved the ride. If you only have 2 kids I would suggest though that you get the innova.

I think the carnival will be discontinued in some part of europe but not in asia or america..

Anyway, there is a new facelift carnival.. just ask the dealer if this will be available soon.

just want to share my experience..

i had my carnival 20k check up at kia pasig. my SA gave me an estimate cost 13k++. i said what? 13k for a 20k maintenance? i was shock because my other car maintenance ranges from 5-8k. i had no choice, so i said ok and had it done. I leave the carnival and have been told that it will be done by afternoon. past 3pm my SA called me and said my front and rear break pads needs to be replace, i said what at 20k brake pads already needs replacement?? I question the quality of the brake pads but the SA told me there's nothing they can do because its consumable parts daw. I was a bit disappointed, considering again my other car that brake pads was replace at 50k. so i ask how much was the parts. lo and behold a whooping total of 10k (4950 for front and 3950 for rear and labor).

I never thought kia's maintenance is this expensive..

Sir, ask ko lang what job did they do sa 13K? brake pads are ok pa for 20k km unless you are driving with your left foot on the brake....and bakit SA ang nag decide sa maintenance part?

    Hi guys,
I'm planning to buy a 2nd hand 2008 Kia Carnival EX A/T and around 25K km mileage. Just would like to ask your help on to what particulars should I check and inspect. During test drive what should I focus into? Thank you very much in advance.

Here's a post by mikey177 at the old kia carnival thread, but I think it still applies:
As has been said before, it would be good to have a trusted mechanic with you when you inspect the vehicle. Do a road test and check for unusual noises, engine performance, smoke emissions, and puddles of fluid on the ground under the engine bay. Rev the engine to above 3,000 rpm and see if there is black smoke coming from the exhaust that doesn't go away after a few revs. If you can inspect the undercarriage, check for signs of rust or collision damage. Check for uneven tire wear and check the condition of the suspension. Check airconditioner cooling capacity --sa Carnival dapat kahit nasa 1 pa lang yung setting ng fan, malamig na sa cabin.

If the unit is casa maintained, ask to see the past preventive maintenance records to get an idea of how the unit was cared for. A typical PMS at Wheels Inc (change oil and oil filter) costs around P3,000+ if you use synthetic motor oil. The PMS should be done every 5,000-km.

Also inspect all electrical connections, function of all lights and lamps, wipers, washer fluid, fan belts, steering wheel play, clutch, etc.

Some suggested first maintenance items would be the replacement of the air filter, fuel filter and oil filter if these were not performed during the last PMS and if the condition of the vehicle indicates the need for such changes.

Yes, it is relatively more expensive to maintain a Carnival compared to other Asian brands. Your SA's quote to you is quite consistent with mine. BTW, There's an on-going promo at KIA authorized dealers from June28 to August 7:

    .Free 28 point checkup
    .25% discount on parts
    .20% discount on labor
    .20% discount on engine oil
.Free body wash, vacuum, tire black and hinges lubrication

Schedule of dealer visits in MMla by Korean engineers:
    Alabang July 2-3
    New Manila July 5-6
    Pasig July 9-10

You might as well schedule your PMS within the promo period to avail of the abovementioned discounts. Maibsan man lang ang sama ng loob ng bulsa natin... wala naman tayo magagawa. Our cars are still under warranty.

Aside from the 20k Kms PMS being done on my car right now, I just got a call from my SA that my brake pads (front and rear) are all worn out and needs to be replaced ASAP, aircon belt and fuel filter are going to be replaced as well. I didn't even bother to ask anymore for the whys and nots. Again, as I've said, our cars are still under warranty. Hawak nila tayo sa Audi TT until the end of the car's warranty.

Come to think of it, I think KIAs are even more expensive to maintain compared to my euro cars (BMW, Benz, Volvo, Porsche). On the average, I spend around P40k on my euro cars' regular PMS. Quite expensive, Yes, but next visits are scheduled after 15k kms. Porsche wont even bother you 'til it hits 25k kms. KIAs on the other hand, recommends a regular checkup every 5k kms. Do the math.

Upside lang on the carnival is that overall, and I'm sure most of you will agree with me, it really is one of the nicest, most comfortable vans in the market today. Kapag pickup naman overall- Navara syempre!
