So, a bad gust coming laterally or near the rear can actually lift an F1. This is because, up-front the wings maybe pointing downward, but from behind they are actually pointing upward. In stock footages of some F1 crashes, have you noticed how the F1's rear lifts up when it spins out and crashes?
Ah ok, spiral pala I've seen how "dirty" air or turbulence can cost an F1 car miliseconds on qualifying... I thought wings on the F1(together with other stuff like rear diffusers etc) where there for creating maximum down force to "push" the car down for more grip(and speed) onto the tires hence the fantastic G's(upto 3g's) on cornering at 200-300kph... but that must be a different F1

Anong GP yan? What year? I've been watching F1 since '98. Have not heard of any incident... Maybe I'm too young in F1 history to know
Only Race Car (Not an F1) I saw do a flip on its own was a 1999 Mercedes CLR Le Mans car. Mercedes pulled out of the race.

Guys, vehicles such as Alterra are a lot heavier than F1 race cars. These cars are mostly made of aluminum and carbon fiber. Hence, they are lighter than the mainstream automobile. Alterra on the other hand, weighs around 2.5 tons. Hence, it is unlikely that it will fly even at the speed of 300 kph! But I do agree that it is dangerous to go over 170kph on a stock tire. Why?, because most stock tires are S-rated and these tires only have 180kph maximum speed rating. Going beyond the maximum speed rating may cause the tire to explode or disintegrate. When this happens it is likely that the driver will lose control and the vehicle will roll-over with catastrophic consequences.

    Ika nga:
pag tumatakbo ka ng 180kph, sasabihin ng mga tao; "Ano yun???!!!"
pag tumatakbo ka ng tamang speed, 120-140kph, sasabihin nila; "Ay Alterra pala yun!!!"
    Hehehhehe

Have you checked how much a Boeing 747 weighs? And, all it need is 250kph to lift-off. 300kph is already tornado velocity... I've seen much bigger trucks get lifted by tornadoes.

Anyway, my point is more on the safety (or lack thereof) of trying to reach max speed. The Alterra is, no doubt, capable of reaching the max speed on its speedo, during ideal conditions. But, don't attempt to find out on your own.

*mbt: Try to go over 160kph. The adrenaline rush is liberating...

Candaba viaduct along NLEX. It's I think 10km stretch of two-lane bridge. Halos wala kang kasabayang mga sasakyan, I don't even think there are speed detectors in that part of NLEX all the way to Pampanga.

Sir Vicoyski, with all due respect Boeing 747 has wings so long and wide that at least 4 Alterra can be parked on it. These wings were specifically design to generate lift greater than the weight of the aircraft.

This is what is needed for Alterra to fly: http://www.popularmechanics.com/auto...y/1751557.html

To lighten up this discussion here is an interesting article regarding mind boggling land speed: http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2001/JanetChan.shtml Imagine a car that can travel at 1,232.8kph. Here is another site that features modified production as well as experimental cars achieving 300mph (482kph): http://www.smithsonianmag.si.edu/smi...aug05/poi.html

Grabe naman kayo! I am comparing weight, not aerodynamics. I was proving a point that weight is not an issue with flight! Obviously, the Alterra, will never fly during average use. It never was designed to fly... However, anything can get lifted with enough wind velocity, with or without wings. It just so happens that flight is made easier (and controllable) if you've got big enough wings.

I am not saying that the Alterra will fly off and land in NAIA... I am saying, given a good speed, enough headwind and an unsteady hand, any vehicle may fly off the road (as in flip-over).

Jeez... Louise... Let's just give this thread back to the Alterra owners, please... Where are they anyway?

So basically only 2 things negative about the alterra. The rear profile and the middle 2nd row seats. Sa rear profile wala na tayong magagawa.Pero sa seats we can definitelt do something about it.Bring it to shops like leder interia. I'm sure they can do miracles for the seats. As for the looks, cguro we'll get used to it.hehe. but you got to love that diesel. especially these times when diesel fuel isnt that cheap anymore.

access to the third row seat is also dire... because the second row seats don't tumble forward.

otherwise, okay lang, a fair (or so-so) vehicle (avoid the manual, get the auto if youre getting an alterra). yun nga lang, talo kasi talaga sa mga kalaban (fortuner in particular), especially at the price it's selling for.

May tumawag sakin na Isuzu Dealer ko dati. Sale na raw ngayon yung Alterra nila, with matching freebies pa raw especially for cash buyers. You guys might want to check it out.

Maganda din pala yung Alterra kapag kulay BLUE. Hindi na siya mukhang karo ng ataol.

Hmm...that must be a new record for a newly-launched car to sell at discounted price. It usually the launch price that is cheaper than the regular price. Daming magagalit na new owners who expected at least a year before a car be sold at discounted prices.
