May tumawag sakin na Isuzu Dealer ko dati. Sale na raw ngayon yung Alterra nila, with matching freebies pa raw especially for cash buyers. You guys might want to check it out.

Maganda din pala yung Alterra kapag kulay BLUE. Hindi na siya mukhang karo ng ataol.

Di kaya na-realize nila na di talaga bebenta Alterra against the competition maski anong ikinaganda ng engine because of the price? I think it's a good move.

Hmm...that must be a new record for a newly-launched car to sell at discounted price. It usually the launch price that is cheaper than the regular price. Daming magagalit na new owners who expected at least a year before a car be sold at discounted prices.

they should price it near Everest price range.

    Ranger - D-Max

    Everest - Alterra

    this is fair.

IMO, that Alterra would look a lot better if they lifted it and installed 265R16 tires and wheels.

Saw a black Alterra trying to overtake a tricycle at Laguna Blvd awhile ago. As the Alterra accelerated, large clouds of black smoke spewed from its exhaust. And we are talking about a few months old unit here.

I've seen a brand new Matrix 1.5CRDi spewing black smoke under heavy acceleration, too. You really can't escape local fuel quality issues if you live outside the metro...

So the black smoke emanates from "dirty" diesel fuels? Or black smoke is really an inherent characteristic of diesel engines no matter how advanced the technology (ie. CRDi) they might have been designed and engineered with?

Nasa pag-alaga ng vehicle din yan... My neighbor takes good care of his Alterra. It is as quiet and as smokeless as the day he got it.

the alterra may not look that good compared to the industry leader but it surely rides a lot better than the industry leader.

    legroom second seats almost equal.

Diesel engines throttle fuel (gas engines throttle air). Black smoke can be normal when running rich under less than ideal conditions (e.g. wrong gear).

Even diesel trucks (personal and commercial) in the U.S. spew black smoke but are still emissions compliant in their respective states.

But, isn't it that the new ECUs coupled with the CRD technology have effectively reduced the blacksmoke emitted from the exhaust?

Although CRDi engines normally produce less smoke than old diesels, OTEP is correct. Under certain conditions, like full throttle at high load, even CRDi engines will belch black smoke.

It's partially the way you drive it, the condition of the fuel, and how well-maitained it is.

Just watch a VW Cup race with the diesel Golf vans.

I had a chance of having a test ride on an Alterra yesterday in one of Isuzu's dealerships (test ride kasi di ako sanay sa matic).

I'd say the quietness is remarkable from a diesel engine. It so quiet even starting it, I didn't even feel the usual vibrations during idling. The ride is so smooth, parang kotse (leaf spring pa to). It's wide, long and comfy.

Though aminado yung agent ko na drawback daw talaga yung center seat sa 2nd row. Pati yung 3rd row, you have to slump back para maging comfortable because of its high flooring.

^Although the Alterra has minimal diesel clatter and vibrations, however it does make loud grunting sounds similar to an Isuzu ELF when accelerating. You are right, the second and third row seats are not comfortable. It actually feels like the Sorento's.

actually, if you would have time to hang out on an isuzu casa... lahat ng isuzu engines almost sound alike from the xwind, dmax, alterra to their elf series trucks...

just competed in the isuzu challenge this weekend. did you know that among the 3 models in the competition(alterra, dmnax, xwind), the alterra made the best record in fule efficiency. best mileage for the alterra: 715 kms. xwind: 688 kms., dmax: 671kms. all filled up with only P1000 worth of diesel or 27.5 liters total. fyi lang.
