My father got his Alterra last week after almost 2 weeks of waiting for the optional leather seats.
The following are my impression of the vehicle:
The look is somewhat dated. It looks like a station wagon on heels. IMO, a 4-5 inches lift would do a little justice to SUV, but maybe the Isuzu engineers designed it for people with arthritic knees. The tires are a little bit small in relation to the wheel arch. The dashboard has lots of plastic components and of thinner quality. The door sidings vibrates and it lacks the solid closing sound Fortuner (BLUG against the Alterra’s PLAG) . My first impression with the Fortuner's dash & sidings was "parang tinipid ng Toyota", in case of the Alterra it looks like we were being robbed by Isuzu.
The engine is surprisingly silent for a diesel engine but the vibration is more pronounced than the Fortuner. Gear shifting is also not as smooth..
The 2nd row leg room is very generous however the middle seat is very hard prompting my 4 year-old niece to comment: “Daddy, the middle seat is made of wood”.
The Alterra, however has standard features not found in the Fortuner, eg: backing sensor, DVD system, rear scuff plate, chrome muffler finisher, 2nd row reading lamps, overhead aircon vents for the 2nd and 3rd rows. The ride is more tolerable and has a better mileage than the Fortuner 2.5 D4D (12 Km/L vs 10 Km/L). And the best come-on was the ZERO interest promo.
Picture of the Alterra: (Sorry medyo madilim na). I will post additional pics later.

Disclaimer:
1. The comparison is limited between the Alterra (my father’s unit) & the Fortuner 2.5L D4D (my unit).
2. I cannot claim to be impartial in my assessment since I own a Fortuner.

Wala bang ibang Isuzu altera owner diyan ? What can I say about the 2007 model e very nice interior . inyong third seat e meron headrest na at all leather halos ang loob except of course inyonh dashboard at iba narin ang aircon vent niya sa harap they did a lot of improvement . meron ako feedback na parang pagong daw ang Alterra I sorry to say na hindi tootoo lahat naman ng saksakyan e meron good points at bad points so lrts all share our knowledge sa bawat isa
meron bang pagong nga naka 3.0 that produce 146hp? thats enough hp.
except from zero to go, poor acceleration for 2 or 3 sec after that ganda nung takbo nya...
sir AT ba? or MT?
3.0 Mt ayos ang acceleration at 11 km/l ang fuel consumption break in palang iyong. Ano comsumption ng fortuner
hi alterra owners,
Meron ba kayong problem with your unit? Mine is 3 months pkey naman ang ride niya kaya lang iyo 1 LCD screen is not working at iyong back side mouldings e hindi maganda ang paggabit
I have also the same problem with my LCD screen on the driver's side headrest. Mine just broke last week. Medyo mahal nga ang maintenance ng Alterra I spend 3500 pesos for 1500 km libre lang nga ang labor charge. Meron ka pa bang naencounter na problem. How about you Alterra owners pls share your experience.
Wala pang time to have the LCD repaired.
BTW, my father owns the Alterra (mine is Fortuner 2.5D4D). We usually travel in convoy on family trips, the alterra has better mileage (inspite of the bigger engine) than my Fortuner.
Alterra 13 Km/L vs Fortuner 11.8-12.5Km/L
Also the rear foglamps of the alterra are very useful when backing-up in narrow & dim places.

Hello Folks.
This is my first post.
My family is planning to get an Alterra before the year ends.
Though there are some choices out there, we are going for the Alterra's Fuel Efficiency and Isuzu's credential in building Diesel Engines.
We plan to get the 4x2 MT.
We are already having some arrangements with our bank.
Some more advice po before we finally take the plunge.
With regards to competition, the Alterra may not look pogi compared to
Fortuner, Santa Fe, Everest, Sorrento.
I saw an Alterra with low profile tires ang nakakabit ang bigger rims than the stock ones and it looks decently macho naman. meron din ako nakita na may rear skirt. Pero it doesnt look ok na.
Ung fuel efficiency talaga ng Alterra hinabol namin because yearly umuuwi kami ng Province (Leyte) and we plan to use Alterra on this yearly very long trip.
Cheers.
