This is coming from someone who's experienced hydrolocking firsthand. Very, very expensive mistake.

if one has no choice, but to go thru.
is it a "good move" to turn off the engine and have the vehicle pushed across the high water, instead?

When water goes in the intake and into the cylinder, the piston can not compress the water. Water, unlike air, is incompressible... well... *almost* incompressible... you can compress water, but it takes thousands of pounds per square inch to compress it *slightly*. Google says the pressure at the deepest part of the ocean is 15,000 psi, and the water there is compressed by less than 5%

The inside of your engine only sees about 190-220 psi (well, in engines I know of) while squeezing air to 1/10th its original volume (10:1 compression ratio)

When water enters the engine, the moment your piston starts travelling up and the intake valves close, it is trying to squeeze water that requires thousands of psi to compress even the tiniest bit. Guess which gives way first?

It's never a good move to let it sit in water at all. If I had a vehicle surrounded by water I knew it could never successfully ford, I'd disconnect the battery, turn the ignition a few times to remove any remaining current in the system... pull the ECU if I possibly could... and run.

If it's a short distance, you could push it across and suffer very minimal damage, I guess... but it's no fun to try to wrestle a two ton brick that's floating on the water... and less fun when it fills up with water and becomes infinitely harder to push.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Sir Niky, just to further build on this...

And say you will need to run and have done all of the above, I suppose afterwards, it should be towed straight to the service center to have it checked?
