Got curious with ultra low viscosity oil especially 0w16. Theyve been using it in Japan since late 90s! Theyre planning to put them into the US market this year.
Interesting article and interview with Eneos oil reps:

At available na 0w8 sa Japanese market [emoji51]
But of course we all know that Japan has a very different weather and temperature compared to ours. Ganda ng weather nila talaga. Just last summer we were in the 40s and 50s in cabanatuan. Hope they did or doing extensive research for these oils in a tropical climate

I hope they did extensive research and testing in tropical climates too.Manufacturers specify thinner and thinner oils to meet stringent global fuel economy standards, not necessarily to protect the engine better. Of course we all hope that these ultra low viscosity oils gives us the best of both worlds...
Well hopefully they tested this exact same engine and AT combo in Death Valley even though they don’t sell it in the US. And they used the same oil as well. And they were stuck in traffic 4-5 hrs a day. Point is, we don’t know and there are too many variables to account for. Car companies can do all sort of extreme weather testing (heck, they can even simulate extreme weather in their own labs for millions of miles) but the true test comes from actual owner driven miles in the environment that they live in.
I recruited an ex-Honda service manager to head the service department of a company I used to manage. He told me some interesting stories about Honda rectifying “issues” without telling owners during PMS to protect their “brand image”. Also, that Honda launched their first gen CVT in the Jazz and City without providing the correct CVT replacement fluid to their dealers, resulting in a lot of busted CVTs. And that the AT in the 1998-2003 Honda Accord sold in the PHL was not very reliable and had a lot of premature failures. Coincidentally, I used to own a 2003 Honda Accord. It was a great car, but the tranny started slipping after 5 yrs at only 60k km. Baka di na test sa Death Valley.
Big corporations are not infallible and they don’t always have the end user’s best interest at heart...if you believe otherwise, well...good luck.
Sir I'm curious that despite the info shared to you by the ex-Honda service manager you still decide to buy the CRV.

honda engine failure in less than 5years? [emoji28]

I never said anything about engine failure in 5 years, that was all you. All I said was that I would inform the people in this thread if my CRV breaks down in 5 yrs. That could mean anything.
That said, I experienced AT failure in just 5 yrs with my 2003 Accord. There are plenty of mid-2000 City and Jazz owners whose CVTs broke down before 5 yrs. If there is any part that could fail in 5 yrs because of heat and lubrication failure on the diesel CRV, I would bet on the turbo. I hope not, but it is certainly possible.
Cars are machines. Machines break. Yes, even Hondas.
My Type C-to-HDMI cable has arrived! It works perfectly with the CRV!

I've never had to recalibrate after filling up with air in a gasoline station. Warning has never come up on my MID.
