Word of caution here as I'm in the petroleum business. Newer car models are already equipped and designed to meet the stated minimum octane rating in the manual. Because the Research Octane Number (RON) here and in the US are the same, 93 RON should be more than sufficient for the Explorer. I have read in the Ford site that the recommended fuel octane is 87 RON, which is considered Regular here.

Use only 95 OCTANE rating if you plan to race your Explorer like a sports car. Otherwise, don't waste your money. Make sure you go for quality fuels only like the big 3 though. Just my two cents...Again, what type of fuel you use depends on your lifestyle and preference...to each his/her own =)

Thanks macsd! I'm still in line for a Black Explorer. Hopefully within this month or the next. Until then, I've no choice but to use the gas guzzling '03 Expedition.

no need to worry, you'll only experience it naman when you're on hataw mode. in regular driving i doubt you'll have this problem.

I think macsd bought his in Ford Alabang.

Should we all start trying if our Explo can handle the floods in Metro Manila?

i just got back home from mandaluyong, well my explo did just fine in about 1 1/2ft deep flood. anything more than that i wouldn't risk it, kahit anong kotse pa yan i wouldn't risk it na kaya when i saw it was getting deeper turned around na lang.

nasanay lang din kasi ako when overtaking down shift then floor the gas pedal or almost floor it. pero i think the smell comes out when you go above 4.5k rpm, below that never pa naman nag karon burnt smell. anyway i think they fixed that issue naman on newer models.

That's correct bro, got it from Ford Alabang. I believe any dealer ship would have it as long as
you place an order from them.

How do you do that bro? Do you mean your running at manual mode lang or automatic then shift to manual mode ? Never ko pa kasi nagamit yung manual mode eh.

usually nasa D(matic mode) lang ako but when i'm about to over take i switch to manual mode down shift it manually then floor the gas pedal. madalas i down shift muna while i'm behind the car i want to overtake then press the gas pedal so that the rev will go higher and when i know na it's on the right spot that will give me the boost i need i start to change lane then floor the gas pedal. after that i go back to matic mode.

Sa Ford Global, wala pa daw sila any kind of accessories for Explorer.

Saw a blue Explo in Binondo (I assume it's the Ecoboost) today. Mukhang pinark sa labas para di mabaha

Thanks bro. That's how i understood it as well. The reason i ask kasi when i inquired exactly that to my SA at service
guy when i had my 1K check, they don't recommend it. Sabi nila, from stop shift either D or M, then move on. Damn those guys pulled my leg into believing such as i would always wanted to shift manual from D when overtaking rather than just stepping on the gas pedal pra mas malakas ang hatak. Remind me to knock on those guys head when i get back. hahaha...

Bobo naman nung SA na yun. There's a reason why Manual mode is always parallel to Drive - so you just flick it to M from D in the event that you need power/gear holding.

Dapat etong mga SA pinapadrive din nung mga binibenta nila para hindi sila nangangapa.

that's why i don't always believe what casa says. i do my own research na lang kasi madalas di nila alam sinasabi nila lalo na SA. na alala ko tuloy nung nag punta ako toyota q.ava to inquire about the hiace halatang yung SA na kausap ko di alam sinasabi niya so i asked him what the engine was kahit alam ko kung ano engine ng hiace di niya ma sagot umalis na lang ako.

    1. What's a good brand? Philipes? Raybrig? Osram?

    2. May wattage pa ba bulbs ng fog lamps?

    3. May color choices ba? Coz the default bulb is similar to the color of the headlight.

1.) The brands you mentioned are all good, but I don't know what Philips bulb are good for fogs. Osram has all weather bulbs which are suitable for fog lamp applications. Personally I would recommend Catz yellow, PIAA plasma ion yellow or Polarg yellow

2.) Yes may wattage pa din like low and high beams, in fact, some fog lamps uses the same bulbs as the low, high beam bulbs. Ex. Montero uses H11 for both low beam and fog lamps. 1st and 2nd gen Expeditions used 9005s which are commonly used in high beams. Standard wattage is 55watts, don't go any higher as it will make the fog lamp housing cloudy or leave burnt marks.

3.) Yes, as i stated above, Yellow is a good color. It gives contrast as against the standard halogen bulb

4.) I didn't bother changing ours since naka retrofit na Explorer namin and due to the fact that the stock output isn't really that great, so tingin ko even if I change the bulbs, negligible naman yun difference. As you said nag, di mo pansin yun illumination.

Hindi dusty kasi panay pa rin ang ulan at ambon mga nakaraang araw. Not bad din pala ang blue na Explo pag nasa outdoor. Kasi di ako sold sa kulay noong nakita ko sa MIAS baka kasi indoor.

It's likely those unit/s that they issued to their marketing guys as Ecoboost.
    Malamang, bumigay na ang makina.
