pardon the bias but i own this T6 and i own an Innova too. Love both but the thought or even contemplating of comparing them is an insult to the Ranger. Haha! Tama c sir Butch 1217 - yung 150kph e non effort sa XLT Ranger (2.2) - you only need 3000-3200 rpm to attain this speed.
Medyo nąg iisip pa ako sa color na pinili ko para sa Ranger,i already have a 2011 Black Montero sport and a 2009 honda civic...iba kase yung angas ng color black sa auto eh...but my first choice sa color nang Ranger is yung Aurora Blue
No. Kaya nga ko nagtatanong.
Also, I don't think provincial highway chases are any indication of the car's true abilities, unless you're both flat out. 120-150 isn't all that impressive, even subcompacts can reach that speed without much fuss. Heck, if we're talking about chases, I once outran a Forester XT with an Innova D4D up the road from Punta Fuego to Tagaytay. Nagbeepbeep naman kami before and after so I knew he was game for it. Is the Innova a faster car? Of course not. I was just probably more willing to push the car.
I was simply quoting what another forumer posted a few pages back. Noone answered him, so I reiterated his question.
I generally have a preference against peaky cars, but I have to try out first-hand how much low-end torque the Ranger gives up compared to its contemporaries before I give a final judgement. If only test units were abundant.
if power ad torque is the question to the rangers engine capability, it sure lacks the power, ive driven my 4x4 ranger from manila to davao city and tested it to its maximum, its a bit frustrating, sure it can go way past 160kph but if highway chases is your concern , i think its not capable of doing it,as what i did during my trip trying to chase any pic up just to keep me awake, when i feel sleepy. acceleration is not the rangers prowess it lacks the punch of sudden acceleration as it will take you long before it can catch with other pic ups, i think it cant even outrun an innova , i found out that what the ranger is good is if highway chases is your concern is at the top end of the power band, like for example as what ive experience i tried chasing a strada 3.2, i cant outrun it during acceleration and overtaking but i can catch him up if given longer highways,i manage to overtake him at around 180kph but * arouund 160kph we are even , i shifted to 6th gear and started going past him reaching around 180kph...hope this helps you in your quest for the rangers power hehehe
Useless engine numbers then (max power / max torque).. or could be the weight? Transmission?
Sir lytspid, is your 4x4 an xl model and rated 150hp? Just clarifying, i thought 4x4 xl models here in ph are those configured with lower hp.

Sir, agree with you, but then you have surpass a 3.2L engine...hehe.. However the limitation comes, when you want the sudden accelaration since its only 2.2L engine, that's the difference when you have a bigger displacement, since lower displacement have smaller fuel injected, so you need higher rpm to get the 380nm punching (but already good enough when it starts kicking at 2Krpm).
SUV & Pickups are already fast enough when they are at 160-180, because they have higher center of gravity and the tires are usually not designed for high speed, besides you can't really reach higher speed on provencial trip.
Yes you were the more aggressive driver of the day..
The reason why you had a hard time overtaking other pick-up trucks is simply because many of them have the same or even greater power specs than your 2.2 Ranger. And we have the smallest engine displacement in the market today. Others have 2.5 even up to 3.2liter which could spell some difference. The 3.2 Strada with 160hp and 343Nm engine is almost the same numbers with the old Isuzu Trooper 3.0 LS. I still have my 11 year old Trooper and i can say na mas malakas parin humatak as compared to my Ranger especially during the early stages of acceleration at low RPMs. I could only speculate that engine displacement is still a factor..
By the way sir please check the specs of your 4X4 Ranger coz an SA told me it's the undertuned version with 125hp.
We have our own reasons and preferences on why we chose the Ranger. On my part, there is a dire need for a new pickup truck since we already sold our old Isuzu pickup. My main consideration is that the Ranger is very new, good looks and stance, fuel efficient, ample features like cruise control 6speed A/T with manual mode etc.., and the attractive price tag. The engine power specs is the least of my priority. When i bought the 2.2 Ranger, alam ko namen i'm not getting this so i can outrun other pickups on the road. Hindi rin naman siya kulelat sa habulan..
ive driven both 2wd and 4wd ranger and they are the same, i didnt notice any difference in power, and why would ford detune a 4x4 and make a 4x2 more powerful than a 4x4, that would be stupid in their part, imagine a lesser hp 4x4, how can that 4x4 do its things having less power than a 2wd, and a powerful 2wd that dont go off-road and stays on road... maybe only in da pelepens...hehehe...
anyway i have a triton 4x4 2.5l non vgt , but with all the mods i manage to outrun almost all other pic ups and suvs with bigger displacement.. my next mods will be trying to improve its power, ive already replace the exhaust pipe and mufflers, as of now im still looking for that knn part number for the new ford ranger..
