The problem with VIC is not horribly constructed, compared to a Fram they are better built for the most part, But the very low efficiency ratings, really really bad anti drain back valves, weak bypass spring really hurt there ability to do a good job.
There bypass set up is also not that great either on the combo filters, to restrictive most combo filters flow 10% to 20% of your oil to the bypass section. Vic just has 3 tiny holes to flow through which is not exactly the best for 40 weight oil on a diesel.
But your oil does not look to bad after 12000klm because you used a really good oil.
Thanks for sir,
That is a nice upgrade then on your filter, You have almost double your filter size. Which means you can run your oil longer.
Don't think you can do this on the D4D engine, But I will check to see if it fits one of these days.
Looks like you have enough room for a B2 filter it's only about 2 inches longer. If that is the case on your next oil change I would check out Pacer for the LF3487
These are designed for extended oil changes, It's the microglass media and it filters down to 7 microns * 50 percent, I use a version of that on one of my cars. expect about 20000klm oil change interval with a good oil with a TBN of at least 10.
The LF3487 they carry is a made in USA one so it's the real deal. Just something t othink about next oil change in about 12000klm or so.

hi doc! regarding the microglass media...I think I can source out an authentic LF3918 that can fit the 4m41....Im using Mobil 1 TDT....does that mean I can extend it also til 20,000kms? does all microglass media filters perform at par with each other? or it still depends on the part no.?
i had previously used the LF 3487 synthetic microglass media on our everest... i did not noticed that oil filter mounting on the everest will prevent a tight seal on the gasket of the LF3487... the filter outer metal ring is hitting the oil platform, so when we installed it, we thought it was already secured but inside, the gasket did not really had a chance to seal with the metal platform because the outer filter ring is hitting it... when we took the vehicle off road, the oil leaked through the gap in the gasket and almost drained all the oil... haha.. good thing we were able to noticed it...
just a caution be sure to check the GASKET of the filter and check the OIL filter Platform to prevent any leaks.. I guess it differs from vehicle to vehicle...
just double check it and run it around so you can check for leaks.
Cb - Did volmax run out of BD28? I only have 2 BD28's in the storage room. Will give them a call tom to check availability.Originally Posted by crazy_boy
yep, they ran out already as of yesterday. as per the salesman, shipment has already arrived pending release from customs. he also said people from tsikot started hoarding daw haha!
OT: paj4x4, can you suggest a good brand of crocodile jack? i remember reading before you were also looking for 1. thanks
If you have taken a picture of the base sakto sana since if flat no problem na nga. Hope it works excellent for you.
*LR: Kasya atasa engine bay ng 4m40 and LF3918. Halos 1 inch addt'l length niyan diba? How much mo ba makukuha? Naghahanap na rin ako ng ipapa-ship eh. hehe
Baka mas mura yung sa'yp. So far yung sa site na binigay ni dvldoc yung pinakamura eh.

RT, wasnt able to take a picture of the base anymore since the time i realized that it was different from the one posted, it was already installed. this was yesterday afternoon. used it for 50kms last night. i took the picture of the filter lunch time today. and seems like theres no leak naman based on the photos. the filter itself still looks clean. kasi if may leak, tutulo na dapat sa side since the filter is upside down.
Thanks. OT - i got a 4 ton crocodile jack - Pali is the brand. Bought it from the store right after Volmax. Also got 6 ton jack stands from the same store.Originally Posted by crazy_boy

Bentley sir? do you remember how much? because the cheap ones being sold in blade/ace are not that good in quality.
Regarding Zic A 10w40 oil, after using it for 50km, im contented with it. car is running really smooth.

Please let me know where your source is so I can get one for my 4m41 too...Saw some Fleetguard oil filters being sold by Denso here in Baguio but for big trucks only and no filter that will match my stock filter. I think their stock are original since the filters have country of origin (made in USA) and are fully wrapped in plastic.
Doc Dvldoc, I have been using Mobil 1 Delvac 5w40 for my 4M41 Strada and 2007 Kia Sorento. Expensive oil here in Baguio, sells for 800/liter at Ace Hardware SM. Ace Hardware also sells Valvoline oils and after seeing this link (http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil%20Tests.pdf) you posted several pages back, I am thinking of trying the Valvoline Premium Blue 15W/40 which is almost half the price of the Mobil 1 on my next oil change. What's your take on this, Doc? Should I stick to Mobil 1 Delvac fully synthetic or is it okay to shift to the cheaper Valvoline semi-synthetic oil? Oil change is 10,000 kilometers interval on both my Sorento and Strada.
The only problem with the LF3918 is it's pretty dang long
Largest OD 92.96 mm (3.66 in)
Overall Height 175.77 mm (6.92 in)
Thread Size M26 X 1.5
But yes all the microglass preforms about about the same. 98% * 20 microns and 50% * 7 microns.
The none microglass version is the LF3746
Baldwin makes a dual flow version of that filter that is similar to the BD7317 I posted earlier and is a 50% at 5 microns
BD7095
Thread: M26 x 1.5
O.D.: 3 11/16 (93.7)
Length: 7 1/8 (181.0)
This could be a great find for if it will fit. These are double the size of your normal OEM filter, the Baldwin is a true bypass filter as well and would give you around 8000klm over the fleetguard. It also has a microglass media.
Guess it would boil down to price and availability.
The mobil 1 performed poorly in that test due to it's API SM API rating
Vavoline Blue has a TBN of 13.5 it's for commercial truck use, it's fleet oil designed for extended oil changes.
Phosphorus 1197ppm
Zinc 1395ppm
Molybdenum 88ppm
Boron 142ppm
Sodium 2ppm
Calcium 3076ppm
Magnesium 10ppm
Strong Anti-friction and cleaning package.
Compare with Delvac 1 which is OK oil, the Calcium level is way way to low to use one diesels in the Philippines, Fine for gas engine but your going to get a sludge monster using 1/4 the calcium as normal diesel oils.
TBN is only 10
