^haha..you're right..when I was in Shenzen, I have to really stare to this car and convince my mind that it isn't any of those japanese or european car brands that I know...well, dito ko lang pala mababasa na they're "orig", Chinese-made cars.

O.T. For almost a year, I'm trying very hard to spot a chinese-brand vehicle (except king-long buses) here in HK, but I can't seem to find one...

lahat ng kotse may crumple zone harap at likod. it is done that way to prevent the engine and other parts wouldn't push into the cabin (or backseat). one of the main killers is the steering wheel. in the old design, once there is an impact, the steering wheel pushes into the drivers chest, rendering him immobile at the least, which makes rescue harder.

the result of these ingenious invention: higher amputations especially the legs, but lesser mortalities on road accidents.

if you look at the crash test, the crumple zones did not work. why? because the human driver's body is subjected to tons of pressure upon impact, rendering mortal injuries to the chest, legs, arms and head area. in short, you're dead meat.

crumple zones saved me once when i lost my brakes going down from the katipunan to libis flyover. i'm not taking chances with chery, by a long shot.

the safety issue is a very sensitive issue. pero kung maalis ang percentage ng mga kababayan natin riding in unsafe jeepneys and motorcycles, let's give the benefit of the doubt na lang for the mean time.

a chery buyer must be well-informed of the risks na lang. after all sa overspeeding lang naman mangyayari yan crumpling cabin. just drive moderately pag sa city. kung magbabakasakali sa NLEX, always remember mas serious ang mangyayari sa'yo in case you ram it out with a jap, american, european or even korean car. so dont challenge the higher brands

the entry of chery can be a blessing here kasi madami na makaka-afford ng cager este isang car and it'll also help the competition na tayo mga buyers ang mag-benefit in the long run

This is not true. While it is true that all cars have crumple zones, there should be no or little intrusion into the cabin!

The problem with the cheap Chinese cars is that they use low-quality steel. In a collision nasisira agad at pumupunit yung mga bakal nila. It's obvious from the crash test results, walang integrity yung body shell.

OK nga may airbags ka. But pieces of the engine firewall intrude into the passenger cabin and masasaksak ka ng mga matutulis na bakal.

Well, it's not my life :D

I walked from our office here in Shanghai to the Bund yesterday, and may nakita akong CEO (yung BMW X5 copy). Galing nung pagka-copy! akala ko nga X5 eh. Of course anyone driving the real thing would know na a CEO-driver is just a wannabe poser. :D

    Chrysler and Chery Cooperation Confirmed
Posted 04 Jul 2007 10:53 AM by Frank

The deal has been in the air for some time now, but today notice came that Chrysler and the Chinese automaker Chery have officially signed a cooperative agreement for the manufacturing of small cars in the NAFTA, European and possibly other regions. The Chinese government supervised the shaking of hands and has given its approval.
Chrysler's CEO Tom LaSorda and Chery Chairman and President Yin Tongyue are both very optimistic about the future. LaSorda was very impressed with Chery's manufacturing plant which rivals most Western European plants, while Yin sees a win-win situation and is keen to reach a global market.

No official word on which models will be made but they will be based off a new small-car platform, possibly the Dodge Hornet concept (debuted at 2006 Geneva Motor Show) is a nominee for this.

    Press Release
Chery and Chrysler Group Finalize Cooperative Agreement
Chery and Chrysler Group forge new model of international cooperation
Agreement called win-win for both automakers
Chrysler Group President and CEO Tom LaSorda joined Chery Automobile Co. Chairman and President Yin Tongyue today to finalize the highly anticipated cooperative agreement between the two automakers.
Chinese governmental authorities from the State Development and Reform Commission officially approved the agreement and marked the occasion by hosting a first-of-its-kind signing event. The ceremony was held at Beijing’s Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Under the agreement, Chery, based in Wuhu, Anhui Province, China and Chrysler, based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA, will work together to develop, manufacture and distribute Chery-made small and sub-compact cars in North America, Europe and other major automotive markets under the Chrysler Group brands.

“This is a win-win for both of our companies, and I am confident this will be a successful relationship,” said Yin. “Chrysler brands are very well known in the U.S. and Europe. We're prepared to work with Chrysler Group to expand their small-vehicle lineup with competitive products and accelerate both our companies' international competitiveness."

Chrysler will identify several small-car models now being developed by Chery in China and work collaboratively to make any necessary branding and regulatory modifications prior to their entry into other markets. Both companies also will jointly develop new globally competitive products based on future Chery small-car platforms.

Strategic growth in international markets – while defending market share in North America – is an important part of Chrysler Group’s Recovery and Transformation Plan.

"This is the start of a very long relationship between Chrysler and Chery," said LaSorda. "Chery’s participation in this agreement and their focus on small and sub-compact cars will have a nearly immediate effect on Chrysler Group's offerings in the small-vehicle segments. This strategic partnership is part of a new business model that is allowing us to introduce all-new products more quickly, with less capital spending."

Today's announcement is not the first milestone for Chrysler in China. Chrysler's relationship with China began 25 years ago when it formed Beijing Jeep® Corp., the first international automotive joint venture in the country.

The DaimlerChrysler Supervisory Board approved the framework for the Agreement earlier this year.

i can't believe that chery is being compared to a motorcycle interms of safetiness.. ganun ba tlaga kaworse quality nito?

I've seen this article regarding Chery QQ crash test

http://www.TheCarCrash.com Cherry QQ seems to be pretty safe as seen from this test crash. No information on what the impact speed was, though. --- Craziest Car Videos at: http://www.TheCarCrash.com --- Website: http://www.TheCarCrash.com
    Release Year: 2007
I don't know kung ok ba tong thecarcrash.com... and I also read some news that Chery is coming in US this month (If chery pass with US crash test does this mean it is already reliable?).

well for those who drive a BMW or Volvo ang sasabihin din nila sa mga nakasakay sa corolla or lancer e "naku di safe yan, I won't trust my life or my families' life for that car, kita mo yung crash test nyan"

remember the animation movie Chicken Little? 'THE SKY IS FALLING'!' ganun yung iba dito..
