if they have steady supply of parts.. i think some people wouldnt mind buying these china cars..siguro next step is offering long warranty period parang mga kia at hyundai sa istate.. some established jap brands dont even have parts available which is frustrating at times

Malapit lang pala ang Chery/Iseway showroom dito sa office ko. Makabisita nga. With a 7-megapixel camera ala Hein. :D

I must say -- I was dismayed by the interior quality of the Getz.

So kung close-to-Getz yung quality ng Chery, I guess OK na yun. But the Getz gets 3 stars EuroNCAP. I can't get over that...

Even a 10-year old Mazda 323 still gets 3 stars EuroNCAP. And only costs 150K pesos...

The Chery QQ has a good rating in EuroNCAP.

The Getz's interior has cheap plastic, but the design is okay. I find the Spark's plastic of a little lower quality. These Chinese cars seem to have low quality plastic, but not severely so.

I'm sorry. It doesn't. It's not listed on the EuroNCAP site.

The Daewoo Matiz scored 3 stars when it was introduced. The Chevrolet Matiz/Spark, three years later, scored 2 stars. Now, the QQ is based on these vehicles, but is made of cheaper steel.

Word is, it scored a zero. The official report never got posted on the EuroNCAP site.

There are two conflicting videos online featuring the QQ. One shows it supposedly surviving a crash test, but there's no indication of where it was done and what speed it was done at.

The other shows the QQ being tested in what appears to be the exact same testing facility that is shown in other EuroNCAP tests, and it is so deformed, it has obviously failed to score.

Any deformation of the passenger cell in a crash test automatically takes away at least one star in EuroNCAP. If it's severe, (as in, that severe ^ ) that counts as zero stars.

And yes, a 90's Japanese sedan should still score at least 2-3 stars on EuroNCAP.

    This is really funny.

RE: stick to Mazdas: I said the interior of the Getz is dismaying. BUT for its price point, it's OK. Hence my additional statement that if the Chery is almost-Getz quality, I can live with that. But I cannot live with zero stars.

Again: 150K ten year old Mazda 323 (with airbag and ABS!) add 50K to fix EVERYTHING. You're still in cheaper than a QQ. And much safer.

Everyone hates old cars because they're unreliable. But unreliability has a LOT to do with economizing on parts. If you buy an old car (like I did..) it's almost a corollary that you'll be buying the cheapest replacement parts. So the old car gets a bad rep.

350K will buy you a very decent used car. Heck, 350K will buy you a Bimmer. A ten-year old one, yes, but still a Bimmer.

Frankly I cannot see the value proposition of the Chery QQ at 340K. Considering it costs 150K in China (I was there last week, and that's what my Chinese colleague told me) the 340K sticker price is an outrage.

Personally, if I had 340K I would buy a decent used car. If on the other hand I have no money and I'm going for the lowest down payment and the lowest monthly, Hyundai has a nice promo on the Getz right now. I think it's 40K down and 8K per month. Can't get much cheaper than that.

At least the Getz passes EuroNCAP standards.

Yup... saw that video, too. But in double-checking on the web, nobody could connect the video to any accrediting agency, and the tag is from the Turkish (?) parts supplier that Chery uses... the one that used to supply for the Daewoo Matiz.

It's a shame about the crash tests... but in the Philippines, it's not a big matter for buyers... depending on the price point. And as orly says, for some people, the price point is pretty sore... even for guys like Orly and me, who are used to buying low priced secondhand cars (Mazdas (626 forevah!) and Nissans (mine)) despite horror stories about old secondhands pounded into us by other people.

RE: Chinese plastic... the design on some models is pretty good. Without touching them, I'd say they look all right for the price. But some trim and finish pieces seem sub-par. I really won't know for sure till I drive one.

Sobrang labong maging 150K(baka yan yung bare version) to dahil narin mahal ang cost ng pagdala nyan dito at saka yung fully loaded version ang dinala ng Chery rito(with dual airbags at ABS,power windows, door locks, side mirror, keyless entry with alarm at alloy wheels)..

Thing is, di nga ako kampante sa Chinese implementation of these goodies eh. If they can't get pet food right, you trust their airbag modules?

Eto pa: someone posted a review of the Brilliance BS6, which is a high-end China-made car. Off the boat palang yung kotse, ayaw na umandar yung one-touch up/down power window. Kailangan diinin para mag roll down. And took three tugs para mag-release yung trunk.

With that kind of build quality, I'd rather have the simplest possible Chinese car! less goodies (with dubious implementation..) less chance of things breaking.

I don't think the target market of the Chery QQ cares about airbags. Besides, with that beer can lata frame, I don't think airbags would save you. So, kung sa akin lang, lubus-lubusin na! make it as lousy as possible as long as super-baba yung price. I don't expect a price of 150K. Pero 200K naman or at most 250K.

The only thing going for Chery is the price. If their price is comparable to mainstream cars, I'd go mainstream. Who's the one who said between a 728K Tiggo and a 763K Innova, dun na siya sa Innova kahit walang power features? damn right! kung magkakautang ako ng 5 years dun na ako sa kotse where I have a reasonable expectation na tatagal siya ng 5 years.

I don't have any expectation na aabot ng 5 years yung Chery without major failures. Why? marami akong nakitang QQ sa Beijing na smoke belchers. Feeling ko di tumatagal yung makina kasi blue smoke na yung lumalabas.. they really don't seem durably built.
