The price of the QQ3 MT(339K) is very near the Alto at 359K. I think for those buying a cheap car should consider the Alto. Even if the Alto has less features, It is a wonderful car with city mileage hitting 17Km/liter+ and a very strong aircon. I am almost sure too that the Alto will be more reliable in the long run. I have an Alto now and I use to own a Suzuki Fronte (old name of the Alto) which gave me trouble free driving for 8 years before I gave it to somebody. Suzuki also has a wide dealership network of I think 20(?) dealers nationwide compared to the Chery. It is also one of the highest produced car in the world with more than 10million units produced so more or less it is tried and tested. BTW I am not againts the entry of Chinese cars but I think they should have lowered their entry point a bit to pressure japanese and korean car manufacturers to at least not increase their prices. If chinese motorcycles can be used as a gauge for the future performance of Chinese cars, the biggest complaint of owners of chinese motorcycles is the long term reliability.
Yes, they are called crumple zones. The front end will easily fold up pero the cabin should be intact. Kaso eto yata buong katawan ay crumple zone. Pati cabin wasak e, at 64kph lang. The only similarity this has with Japanese compact cars is the looks, nothing more. Which is why it is very deceiving. At very low prices, all they have going for them is their looks. Im quite certain the quality of the steel and other materials they use here are different from Jap cars. Otherwise they cannot be sold at rock bottom prices.
Ang tricycle ba ay umaabot ng 100kph? Nakakadaan ba tricycle sa expressway? The likelihood of a tricycle crashing at the speed of 64kph is so much less compared to a car. We're not trying to dissuade you from buying. All we're saying is that kaya ganyan kamura ito is siguradong sub-par quality to. Walang pinipili aksidente. Oh well, its your life.
Just make sure na for private use only. If you intend to use this para pampasada, make sure na properly insured and hindi colorum.
I've actually walked to school (along the National Highway), biked long distances and in traffic, and I've ridden scooters. I prefer nearly all of the above to riding a tricycle, which, IMHO, is one of the unsafest vehicles on the planet. It lacks the nimbleness and maneuverability of a bike, it has absolutely no braking power, and when you hit something, you're dead.
When I get off the jeep, if the choice is to take the trike or walk, I usually walk... kahit 20 minutes yung layo...
I see the Alto as the primary problem for Chery... here's why...
-------
I went with Carlo to the Chery showroom the other day, and here are my thoughts:
The Filipino buyer is a cost-conscious buyer, yes, but he is also status conscious and value conscious. While Chinese motorcycles have found a niche in the local market, and have, in fact, severely affected sales of Japanese motorbikes, their effects seem to be levelling off.
Why? Simply because they're Chinese. Preconceptions of Chinese quality and the actual experience of owners (mostly bad) in terms of reliability has filtered down to the buying public.
If, due to old wives' tales of horrible reliability of box-type Sentras, people still refuse to buy new Nissans (which are actually a great bargain because of this)... and due to the same old wives' (or should I say, manong driver's) tales of the horrible reliability of gray-import Koreans can keep people from accepting modern Hyundais and Kias, what more for current Chinese vehicles, where such tales are not thirdhand legend, but firsthand experience?
Chevrolet sidestepped the legendary unreliability of Daewoo by disguising their cars with a different skin. They offer excellent aftermarket support, good looks and a new brand name. They also undercut the competition by a lot.
They're selling, yes, but they're resorting to lots of incentives and promos... and they're not really selling as well as they could be, given their low prices... why?
Simply because the product underneath hasn't improved significantly from the Daewoo technology it's based on. The engines are pure s***. Horror stories of engine problems and terrible fuel consumption for first generation Optras has really hurt their brand image. If somebody were to drop the bomb on the public that the Spark rates just two stars on the EuroNCAP crash tests and the Aveo one... then their sales would be even more glacial. In fact, one Chevy salesperson admitted that it took a promo last year to even move the old Aveo hatchbacks. It's only because of the style updates and continuing slash-price promos that new Aveos and Optras are finally moving.
That's the fate that may well hit Chery if their cars don't hold up to real world abuse.
I don't see a lot of people going for the Cowin or the A5, simply because at 500k, you can still get a Toyota... the Avanza. True, the 1.3 Avanza is kind of cheap itself (horrible HORRIBLE interior), but for many people (strangely)... "ah, basta! Toyotaaaah!!!!" Even if the Chinese cars have... admittedly... decent interiors and sort-of-okay looks... Sort-of, meaning... they're not... well... whatever...
Others may be attracted to the value-for-money of Chevy or the Koreans at this price range. And the Koreans in this range have better interiors and curvier body panels. They may be a bit smaller, but they're more crashworthy (Kia Rio, 4 stars). Korean gasoline engines may not be the final word in refinement or economy, but I don't think bigger, less sophisticated (8 valve SOHC, anyone? :hysterical: ) Chinese engines with heavier cars to lug around will give them much trouble in that regard.
The big van is a very questionable value... being priced square in the sights of the Carens, Innova, Crosswind and Adventure... which all have diesels at that price... another important aspect for Filipino buyers. It may just bomb.
The Tiggo? Have no clue. It's in limbo, marketwise, but I wouldn't be surprised if they sold one or two.
Their main hope rests on the QQ. At its price, the QQ Sedan is the cheapest on the market. But all three QQ variants sit slap-bang in the Suzuki Alto's sights.
In my previous review of the Alto, I stated that the Chevrolet Spark's 500k asking price was damn ridiculous, given that the Alto matched or bettered it in many ways (except styling) for much less money.
The Alto still betters the QQ-derivative of the Spark in many ways... the Japanese engine, for one. In a sense, yes, it is likely to be easier to maintain in the long run, and it is likely to be a better engine overall.
And the public knows that. What's more important is: they believe in the infallibility of anything Japanese, 100%. Whether they vote for style or that legendary Japanese dependability is a big test of whether Chery can make it here.
Of course, considering that the Alto (untested in Europe) is a potential 1 or 2 star car, safety wise, while the QQ is still ostensibly a zero-star car (at least until Chery send another vehicle for EuroNCAP testers to destroy... the last one was... uh... totalled...), it might be a close race.
And yes, those safety stats matter. While underbone motorcycle safety is truly a joke compared to motorcar safety... they're bought by people who have less than 100k pesos to spend, and monthly payments are tiny (I spend almost as much on phone bills). Plus, you can jump off of a motorcycle.
If you're paying over 300k for a car, you damn well expect it to keep you alive. And no, if you're properly belted in (or even if you're not), you can't just jump off of a QQ.
And that's all there is to it. For 30k, a lot of people are willing to gamble on Chinese bikes... simply because it's not a lot out of pocket... for 300k+++, which is more than 90% of secondhand cars cost, you're talking a whole different ballgame.

Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
BullsEye nicky: Well said and well analyzed.
Toyota started with the Toyopet in the Philippines very cheap then
Kia, started with the pride, one of the cheapest car
Picanto for a while was also one of the cheapest
Hyundai had a decent Van( with questionable reliability circa 1999) but was the cheapest large van, at that time. much cheaper than the Hi Ace and the Nissan.
The point is, when your quality is still questionable, the most effective entry point is still being the lowest price. Thats why I agree completely with Niky that the other Chinese cars at the present time is still a hard sell. Would you buy a Tiggo or a Innova if it means 5 years in debt? Even the QQ3 will be hard to sell considering that there is an Alto for 20K more. In fact If I have a chance to do the selection process again I will still choose the Alto over the QQ3.

Mga Sirs, wala pa ba nito sa US or UK?
Went to their showroom Sunday afternoon, cute talaga ang QQ. Kaya lang based on the comments and reviews sub-par ang safety.
can anyone confirm this?
There are two models the standard and the deluxe. The standard is at 359K and the deluxe is at 398K. The Deluxe is power steering, power front windows, body color bumpers and central locking with a plastic wheel cap cover. Both have 3rd brake light, headlamp adjustment knob to adjust headlight height and a rear wiper.
