I guess the point's similar to yung mga "fix a flat" na instant vulcanizer in a can. Used only in extreme emergency kung na flat ka in a dangerous place and need to get away quickly. They do work, but you'll have to buy a new tire, and scrape off the gunk off the wheel afterwards.

In this case, you have a 2-3 yr old (mid-range quality) battery that you're not confident/don't trust on a long drive, so you bring along a jumpstarter/powerbank in case it dies. Then you can start the car... to buy a new battery.

Uhm, sige, but not for me IMHO.

Some batts do expire prematurely. Again, like what our good samaritan, archerfish shared, It's a handy helpful thing to have.
    Way off topic now. Haha.

I follow what the XP1 manual says.... to check charge about every 6mos when unused. It has always held full. I do plug it in after every use, doc.

I had one before and not those from Ace hardware, but customized. This assured me that wire diameter is sufficient for a jump-start. I remember my teacher's explanation about it that imagine the wire to be a pipe. The larger the pipe, the easier for the water to flow. The same thing with electricity, the larger wire allows "better flow" of electrons.

Last time, my neighbor borrowed it. Since he frequently borrowed it, I gave it as a gift.

Now, the problem with jumper cables is that you need another car to start your own car. So, a portable jump-start battery is still a good thing to have in a car aside from a jumper cable.

You can have both, just to be safe. [emoji3]

EDIT: Yes, jumper instead of apron! You got me there, a good one, a really good one.

I actually practiced this, being frugal on my battery. The safe way is to replace the battery after two years of use, regardless of its condition. With a jump-start battery, I can "extend" the battery life by waiting until it dies. Wherever I am, I can simply start the engine with the portable battery.

In an emergency, and you can never tell, you really need a portable battery. So it happened to me that instead of the battery dying on me, the belt of the alternator was cut off. After a while, I used the portable battery to reach a nearby shop.

in my opinion, driving a car with weak battery, is excuse-able only if one is on his way to the battery store.
If I may stray from the topic, why is it that it's not safe? I don't want to quote Manny Pacquiao's commercial, "I've been doing this for ten years." I hope you don't mind if you'll explain. You see, I belong to the millennial generation so I lack experience.

My only reason for leaving the engine running while inflating the tire is, to assure that I won't deplete my battery. To be safe, I use the handbrake and a tire choke. For automatic cars, handbrake and putting the transmission in "park" is sufficient for me.
