    good day
Why, sir? We are supposed to be discussing issues, right? Issues are not plain black or plain white.

The problem is you take things too personally. You invest too much in your ego. Me? I try not to. I'm "color-blind" that way. I don't look at the poster's personality, and I try not to harbor long standing ill-feelings against anyone here, especially since we don't really even know each one from Adam. Keeps my life stress-free too.

You talk about "permanent" bias. As if a person cannot change. You of all people should know, nothing is permanent or remains permanent. Even the most solid of objects crumble through time.

But if that is your wish, then I will have to respect that too. I'll try my darnest best not to quote you anymore moving forward, no matter what issue you are discussing and which I find myself interested in also. But I'm not promising. Take note -- no promises, sir. Have a good day to you too.

Yeah, too bad they're in a hopeless situation. All the protests/riots/call for help isn't gonna stop China from tightening its grip on HK.

Miracles do happen though so maybe they should pray more.

international readers include pinoys who ONLY get their news from western media

many pinoys already have a pro-US / anti-China bias so reading/watching western coverage of HK events reinforces their bias

Apple -- took down HKmap.Live from its Appstore

Google -- HKmap.live still available in playstore

    Spot the difference.

I agree, sir. It's a hopeless situation. China plays hardball for keeps. Track record shows it. Don't think that track record will be broken anytime soon. Hongkong protesters need to pray and those supporting should also pray for them.

Google has negligible business in China... Google Play and associated services are non-existent in China. The central government doesn't have a neck hold over them.

Not that Google is avoiding the Chinese market. It's more or less blocked out of the China market by Baidu, which is provide same services as Google.

While 20% of Apple's USD 58 BILLION earning comes from China...

Kyle Bass -- he made his name betting correctly on the collapse of US housing

but since then he never had a winning bet (short JPY, short CNH puro palpak)

he's a super mega loud anti-China guy and he's betting the HONGKONG DOLLAR will break its peg to USD

    he's long USD against HKD

it's been months already how's it going?

So you're implying that China made Tim Cook see the light --- kaching kaching ---, right? And some people still believe China's got nothing to do with it. Must be pro-China bias at work.

Patriotic Filipinos don't have any love lost for China because of what it is doing in WPS. All that militarization and annexation, only a fool will love China for it. A big reason why China is keen on WPS is natural resources -- kaching kaching. Show me the money, China wants more and more and more. The sleeping giant's greed has awakened and is now a money-hungry monster. God is money. Money is God. Next to Power, nothing else matters to the Communists.

Of course, those here with business interests in China have mixed feelings. for China Their heart knows that China's claim is stupid, but their brain tells them that if they go against China, their pockets will be poorer for it. And then you have Chinoys (who control majority business in these islands) here who despite being born and raised and educated locally, believe in the superiority of the Chinese race, and their hearts are still beating for the motherland. Wasn't it Bill Gates who said that next to the Indians (India people), the Chinese are the next most intelligent race?

No offense meant to my Fil-Chinese friends here and everywhere, but if Filipinos find it hard to love their own country, do you think Chinoys are any better at loving the Philippines especially when majority have been raised to look down on Filipinos? Yes, even up to now, it's taboo for Pure Chinese Blood to be mixed with inferior Filipino Blood. That's the sad, unfortunate truth, which will probably take many more generations to be completely eradicated.

Now we have HK vs China brewing and everyone's watching, feeling, crying, thinking, -- how will this all end? Who is right, who is wrong? Even among HK people, they are divided. The young Hongkongers, the idealistic one, they're the ones who are in the forefront of this battle -- a battle which they say is for the soul of HK. The older ones are probably more calm, rehabilitated, more "go-wth-the-flow" are are more understanding of the motherland.

Knowing what we know of China -- by our own experience with them via the WPS, it is not too hard to see why we'd rather see HK win despite the zero chance they have of doing so. We know the indecency that China is capable of, and it's not a feel-good experience at all. We don't need to be brainwashed, we already know from direct experience, and this is something money can't buy. That, my friends, is the big picture.

Hong Kong murder suspect whose case sparked extradition bill protests to be released from prison next month | South China Morning Post
There's a saying in Filipino -- "Pag ayaw, maraming dahilan. Pag gusto maraming paraan."

Case in point -- our very own Conchita Carpio-Morales and Alberto Del Rosario were denied entry to into HK under China's iexplicit nstructions. Various valid reasons were given to explain the denial of entry. But people knew, people knew it was the lamest of excuses. But sill "valid".

What's my point? I think China can come up with a creative way to detain this murderer beyond October if it really wanted to, even without that extradition bill. Something that will be "valid". They've been doing it for years -- how many countless trump-up charges have the motherland imposed on many many of its perceived enemies? And you're telling me they can't come up with one that will detain this criminal in their backyard longer than necessary? Highly doubt it.

They are using this murderer as a pawn and they are willing to sacrifice true justice in order to turn the tide of support to their side. Shame on these monsters. My opinion.

No need to state the obvious. Love of $$$ would drive anyone to sleep with the devil to keep their bottomline... Americans most especially.

There are times, sir, when the OBVIOUS need to be stated. There are people who actually believe that China pressuring Apple to do what Apple does not want to do in the first place is just a fairy-tale invention of the anti-china, western media. It's that hard to read between the lines, especially when you have tons of poltical bias, I guess.

basta West = democracy = good

the world needs a counterbalance to WHITE MAN

somebody has to stand up to WHITE MAN

If one wants to do business in places like China, you do not piss the host. Why do you think big US companies are quiet about the matter? Or even that isn't obvious to you?

Here is an example why things work that way...

U.S. chipmakers quietly lobby to ease Huawei ban - Reuters

Out of $70 billion that Huawei spent buying components in 2018, some $11 billion went to U.S. firms including Qualcomm, Intel and Micron Technology Inc.

Qualcomm, for example, wants to be able to continue shipping chips to Huawei for common devices like phones and smart watches, a person familiar with the company’s situation said.

“They’re doing it by their own desire because, for many of them, Huawei is one of their major customers,” he said, adding that chipmakers knew that cutting Huawei off could have “catastrophic” consequences for them.

China watchers say U.S. suppliers are essentially trying to thread the needle - not wanting to be seen as aiding an alleged spy, thief and sanctions violator, but fearful of losing a good client and encouraging it to develop supplies elsewhere.
    Apples $$$ loss isn't China's loss...

Of course. I remember saying here in tsikot that a lot of SMART businessmen (doing business with motherland) are keeping their mouths shut because opening it is tantamount to ECONOMIC suicide, or soemthing to that effect. So no need to lecture me about the obvious sir, cause believe it or not, I understand them.

Oh by the way, a business relationship, like any relationship, is a 2-way street. When you say "Apple's $$$ loss isn't China's loss..." you're actually saying that only Apple stand to lose. Now how is that a 2-way street? Lots of Apple China suppliers stand to lose if that relationship fails completely, you know.

Going to Hong Kong thread [Merged]
