*attynorby...true it was a blessing having to beat all the price related hoopla of the fortuner. We didn't regret getting the unit! I think the perception of being underpowered is relative to how one drives in a day to day scenario. Based on my actual driving experience, the power of the 2.5 Diesel engine is adequate for City driving and your occasional spirited highway sprint. All in all it was a great buy...after the 5 month wait, we can sleep soundly now! I assume you also got the 2.5 D4D unit as well? I'm looking into the possibility of making my own wheel well splash cover on the front passenger side.

Has anybody else experienced a nagging sound at the back of the car whenever there is a bump on the road? It took us (with my wife) to determine the cause. We found out that it was caused by the hook of the 3rd row seat which is attached to the handle at the top of the window.

If you shake the hook or the strap, there is a "tug-tug" sound which I find very irratable.

I reported this to Toyota Makati during my 1000K checkup and they dismissed this as a natural occurrence. So what I did what I don't fold up the 3rd row seats. I leave them on the floor as to not to us the strap. However, this is such a waste of space since nobody will use the 3rd row seats.

Has anybody else have this problem? I am still thinking of what to do. Maybe put a rubber contact to prevent the plastic (from the hook of the seat) to plastic (from the handle on the top of the window) contact which makes the sound.

    Help?

Malamang maluwag lang ang pagkaka-strap mo. Try tightening the velcro strap to prevent any slack when it is hooked.

Economy was my prime factor in choosing the 2.5 because I drive everyday; imagine a mileage of 76T km in 2 years for my altis. I also own an altis 1.6VVTi which is very economical; so, I thought that the 2.7 would nearly double my fuel consumption kahit na VVTi ito, coming from a 1.6. I find the price of the 3.0 high (I can buy 2 vehicles with its price) plus I really do not need a 4x4. As proven with my first test, it almost equals the fuel consumption of my altis. Congratulations!
also for practical reasons as to why i'm in line for the 4x2 d4d. pareho tayo attynorby. i drive a lot, mostly along the southern part of the ssh. also, i believe the term "underpowered" depends on your driving needs. if you're the kind of person who always wants to be the "first" when the traffic light turns green or always overtaking left and right along the highway then the 4x2 d4d is not for you. for my needs, dinaman ako mahilig makipagkarera at hindi ako off-roader.

By the way which dealer you got ur unit from and what kind of deals you got?
Thanks a lot for the commendation At the end of a working day, it all boils down to these parameters. Got it from TQA (huwag maingay) IHF/IHI nga lang, but the deal's sweet and it's worth it.

So sorry for the lengthy post but now i understand why the Fortuner had this great hype. Guys patience lang din!
*allenjo,.. WELL SAID and JUSTIFIED. I guess all the lucky Fortuner owners are as satisfied (based on real-world use) as you.
Tsikoteers, I move to nominate allenjo for the "Monthly Fortuner Owners Club Review" e-version.

Mura naman kasi fuel sa middle east so engine displacement isn't an issue with them. No gas-guzzlers tax there. So if you put this price into perspective, di ba mahal ang Fortuner dito sa atin?
    .

Would u believe, sa Dubai (UAE) 2 months na ang pila sa Fortuner 4.0l V6 Gas? Just got the info today.

Will also take note of your tips guys!

*patron...salamat sir because i think a lot of us here have started to unravel the term "practical performance"...a car's performance suited to the domestic environment such as Manila (and the suburbs) plus other key factors. Working in the automotive industry really has made me keen about the details of vehicles and i think that's the reason why i was a little critical when our fortuner was released! This weekend were taking the fortuner out to Pampanga and will see how it performs! There's another scenario where i'd like to test this out...a pay-day friday and see how it handles Manila traffic (consumption wise)

I explored that item a couple of months ago with some of my hobbyist/modeller friends who can vacu-form that inner wheel well cover for both the Innova and the Fortuner/Hilux. I told them to keep the price of that single item below 200 bucks since you still have to buy 6 to 8 toyota fasteners from Gant thus add another 100 bucks for them. Ang mahal ng poly-ethylene sheets sa Binondo (close to P200 for that measurement) pero kaya daw nila gawin. When they did the costing, maliit na yung margin tapos hind pa nila ma-recover yung cost ng mold pang vacu-form; so we just dropped the whole thing.

Ciguro DIY na lang talaga ito. I already brought a sheet black plastic from National Bookstore (long folder-P14.- lang, pero too thin, dapat medyo thicker) then tabas na lang and mount with fastener. I haven't started on it yet but I hope it will hold when it's done.

Whoever makes a DIY inner wheel cover, pa-picture naman step-by-step para may DIY guide yung ibang members. TIA

*jaeger...mahal nga talaga ang poly-ethylene and add to that the mold you'll use to form the well shape!

A good friend of ours has a plastics factory and i'll see if i could get scrap sheets...i think they mentioned na meron daw sila HDPE sheets...hard & durable material i may add. Naku trial and error to which makes it very exciting!

a trip to tagaytay & baguio will reveal what underpowered really means.

if you frequent tagaytay or Baguio with loaded adults often then i guess i would consider the 3.0 d4d. But if i usually use it on the flat streets of the city then i would say the 2.5 d4d is still the economical choice.

*allenjo, boss vicoyski started a thread on this last mid-august & here's the link :
    http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21737

we made a preliminary discussion on the process and the fastest way to have the part fabricated. We need your inputs and see what can be done realistically.

It's the trial and error part when making the mold that we want to eliminate kasi it's too time consuming and will often lead to frustration . . . . back to the drawing board again (for the nth time).

The toyota clips/fasteners they have them at Gant Auto Shop (2742-D Taft Ave., Pasay, T:831-6932) they have all sizes and shapes.

HDPE (is this high-density poly-ethylene?) hindi kaya mag-crack if you bend it without applying heat? sana may solution tayo.

Yup HDPE is high density polyethylene...and yes, it needs to be heated evenly on the entire surface to get the best result when vacuum forming!

As to bending and cracking, i will ask my friend about the tolerance of HDPE!
