To all the Tsikoteers in this thread:

Your posts are very much appreciated. They are informative, invaluable and really helpful to those who already own a Fortuner, and to those who are patiently waiting in line.
I recently acquired my unit, a 2.5l D4D 4X2 Extreme Black, last Sept 6. I am very much willing to share info on the "growing pains" and "teething problems" of this SUV.

Hi guys, I just need some clarifications with regards to the "No plate, no travel" policy of the LTO, our agent told us it will take about a month for the car plates to arrive, in the meantime I can drive the vehicle for 10 days from the date of the sales invoice? What should one do when stopped by the police? I heard stories that even with complete documentation, the police would still think give you a hard time. Right now I'm waiting for the rustproofing to fully cure, should be ready by Friday. See you guys sa Fortuner owners grand eyeball! (I hope someone will plan one! hehe.)

bilog, engine power can be evaluated based on many parameters. Previous posts have crunched already on the numbers (hp, torque, etc), so we fairly have an idea on its performance. However, based on end-user parameters, i.e. driving habits and where it is mostly used, we'll have a different feedback.

Based on my driving habits (gigil sa accelerator at galit sa mabagal sa unahan ko) i'd say the 2.5 D4D is not underpowered, city streets or provincial highway-wise. Haven't tested it beyond 100 kph yet, but tested it with 7 adult-load, and i did not experience any "slow haul" as posted in some threads.

patron, thanks for the information. 2.5d4d is enough for me since i would be using it as family hauler.

Vmax, tip ko lang: my agent gave me multiple copies of the permit, so i have a fresh one every week, until i get my plates. Been flagged down once near NAIA but when they saw my documents, it was all a breeze.

thanks for the info. i'm still waiting for my 2.5 d4d unit, hopefully this month. i'm pretty sure i'd be happy when my unit arrives. i expect it to be much much better than my current mitsu adventure, which i know is beyond comparison with the fortuner 2.5 d4d..

beebs, i guarantee u, di ka magsisisi. It is not as temperamental and zippy as my '03 RAV4 SV, but i am very much satisfied with its real-world performance and it met my requirements for a "daily city drive/ monthly Tagaytay climb" mode. BE PATIENT.

I went for my end-user-based parameters: Im not an off-roader; need a 7-seater for the wife, the restless kids, and kid's stuff; need on a daily drive basis (translated to fuel economy); latest diesel engine technology, decent engine power, ride height, looks (of course!), INTIMIDATION FACTOR (which the Fortuner delivers), price, and satisfaction. Apparently, it was all ticked on the YES box.

Not sure about the price compa though.

Congrats on your new ride!!! Another Fortunate owner of the most awaited vehicle.

I would just like to commend you on your so called "end-user based parameter". Very well categorized. For me these are also the main reasons why I prefer and patiently waiting for it.

By the way which dealer you got ur unit from and what kind of deals you got?

*bry...we couldn't wait anymore after so many "colorful" experiences with the dealers so we opted to get the 2.5 D4D unit instead. Also, we wanted to beat the price increase and the e-vat and since the opportunity to get the unit was already in front of us, we got it immediately.

The 2.5 D4D being underpowered seems very subjective...subjective to one's normal driving habit. If you're the go go type of driver then i think you'd be better off with the 3.0 for more low end pull or the 2.7 VVTi. My father and I have been continually learning the art of economical driving so the 2.5 D4D was a wise choice for us instead of waiting again for the gas model. There are 6 of us in the family and pulling power is pretty good with all of us in it. Hindi matulin pero hindi bitin...it's a good balance actually. Acceleration to around 60-70 kph is good though we haven't ventured towards the triple digit mark. We're still learning from the vehicle since this was a big adjustment for us. Ride was a little bouncy but tolerable. Idling sound is typical of a diesel engine but conversations inside the car are still audible probably due to very good sound insulation in the firewall, engine bay, and the interiors. 1st and 2nd rows are roomy and i've found out that the 3rd row is quite inhabitable...way much better than my sister's CR-V. Controls were within reach and operability was ok. It was easy to familiarize ourselves with the controls since they have large buttons. Forward visibility was excellent though we really have to adjust with the height. I think the design needs no further explanation. All in all we're very happy with the Fortuner...in fact, it's first night in our garage was spent with me sleeping inside it. As to maintenance, we've learned that as long as you keep the vehicle in check at hindi mapapabayaan then, maintenance will be very much be competitive with the gas variant. We've had 2 diesel powered vehicles before and experienced no major problems. Travelling at 50-60 in EDSA with low engine revolutions yielded 8.1 to 8.6 km/l (a very good rating i must say)

So sorry for the lengthy post but now i understand why the Fortuner had this great hype. Guys patience lang din!

You dont need 160hp if the traffic is crawling, 102hp is powerful enough for 10kph to 15 kph traffic.
    Fortuner 3.0V - 0 to 100 kph - 13.4 secs
    Fortuner 2.7G - 0 to 100 kph - 9.68 secs
    Fortuner 2.5G - 0 to 100 kph - ??? (maybe same with innova 2.5)

got this Fortuner info. from another forum . . .

I found out that the Toyota Fortuner is now out in Saudi Market starting Oct. 1 at yon pala ang pinagkakaguluhan nila. Tapos bigla rin silang nag-alisan isa-isa nong makasakay na at ma-feel na yong interior. Take note that the forturner here is made in Thailand and the price for the V6 engine, gasoline variant is a whooping SAR 104,000 cash price which is equivalent to PHP 1,560,000 at the present rate (no diesel variant is avalailable here so far). Medyo na-curios din ako kasi nga in the first place toyota forturner ang first choice ko. So I asked some of the Saudi's how they find the fortuner, they told me that it is so crampy inside and not comfortable for their family. . . . .
A Fortuner with a 4.0 li. V-6 VVTi petrol engine for P1.56M hmmm . . . . this is in the price range of the 3.0 D-4D already. Mura naman kasi fuel sa middle east so engine displacement isn't an issue with them. No gas-guzzlers tax there. So if you put this price into perspective, di ba mahal ang Fortuner dito sa atin?

*katsudon...i asked the same thing to the Toyota agent and asked why i didn't have this...they gave no logical explanation for it. It's similar to the CR-V front suspension case kung saan may holes in the wheel wells but nonetheless they had explanations leading to suspension design...but for the fortuner wala silang maisagot.

I think Thailand already has a cover for this but not yet introduced here in the Phils. I told myself that this makes for a good DIY project. Pag-aaralan ko pa muna

    Congrats on your new ride!
As for the plates, I called up LTO and MMDA when I got my new ride and they told me that the conduction sticker is only good for 7 days. After that, your car can be apprehended. So what I did on the 6th day was to request for an extension of the conduction sticker from LTO. This was done by my brother-in-law who works in Honda and knows someone who can get this done in LTO. Although my Toyota agent offered to do the same for me but to make sure I had this processed through my brother-in-law. The extension was good for another 7 days. So I was confident when I was using my car beyond the 7-day grace period of the conduction sticker. When the extension lapsed, I requested another extension for another 7-days. Before my third extension, my plates arrived.

However, I was not pulled over by any cops during the time I did not have my plates yet. Nakaka-sindak ata ang porma nang Fortuner.

The cost of the extension is P300 pesos. This is a small price to pay compared to the thrill I got driving my Fortuner around with people staring at me. Dark tint naman ako so they can't see me grinning ear-to-ear.

I really enjoy driving my new baby not because of the stares but because of the ride. Iba talaga pag bago at malakas ang hatak. So my piece of advise is ask your Toyota Agent to ask for an extension to the Conduction Sticker in LTO so you can continue driving around town in your new toy.

I beg to disagree. I had mine compared (and confirmed) with my friend who owns a 4x4 and a 4x2D4D. According to him, halos pareho lang ang hatak... pero magkakatalo na lang sa rekta. Also, the 4x2D4D is very economical. I am running my 2nd "fuel test" now; in a few days, I'll post the result. Easy driving.

Good and practical decision. You may also call it a blessing in disguise for getting the 2.5; very, very economical. Economy was my prime factor in choosing the 2.5 because I drive everyday; imagine a mileage of 76T km in 2 years for my altis. I also own an altis 1.6VVTi which is very economical; so, I thought that the 2.7 would nearly double my fuel consumption kahit na VVTi ito, coming from a 1.6. I find the price of the 3.0 high (I can buy 2 vehicles with its price) plus I really do not need a 4x4. As proven with my first test, it almost equals the fuel consumption of my altis. Congratulations!
