If you are to buy a car inspect mo din unit bro bago ilabas sa casa baka kasi demo unit ibigay sayo. Inspect mo ODO and marks na parang nagamit na sfor a few kilometers unless it was driven galing planta. Order ka na lang bago. Just to be safe lang kasi sayang naman ibabayad mo sa b-new kung nagamit na ito.
Tsk tsk tsk... mukhang may problem ang Fortuner...
===We tested Toyota Fortuners with BEISSBARTH brake tester on 6/12/2005 in Bangkok THAILAND.
We found the brake efficiency was 45% (below standrad)
Brake force front axis left 3310 newton right 2870 newton
Rear axis left 1730 newton right 1390 newton
Brake imbalance front axis 13%
Rear axis 19%
ROAD TEST on 5/12 /48 by "Toyota motor Thailand" found brake rotor temperature rise 550 degree centrigrade, brake pad crack , experienced brake fade and must increase pedal force about 30% to obtain same stop distances.
Furious motorist smashes Toyota
Preecha Santijirakul, 34, an engineer, places a wreath on the shattered windscreen of his Toyota Fortuner sports utility vehicle. He smashed the windscreen with a hammer yesterday after becoming enraged at the car maker's failure to fix a problem with the brake system. — SAROT MEKSOPHAWANNAKUL
POST REPORTERS
A furious engineer smashed the windshield of his new Toyota Fortuner sports utility vehicle with a hammer and set fire to its brake disc and brake pad in protest at what he said was the dealer's failure to fix the car's defective brake system. Preecha Santijirakul, 34, yesterday drove his vehicle to the Toyota Libra showroom on Kaset-Nawamin road where he bought it five months ago.
He parked in front of the showroom and then smashed the car's windshield with a hammer. He also removed its brake disc and pad and set fire to them.
The angry owner said his action was meant to be a message to Toyota executives in Japan that the brake system of the company's Fortuner had big problems.
Cracks had developed in his car's brake system although he had driven it less than 10,000km in the five months since its purchase, he said.
He had the vehicle checked and repaired by Toyota Libra but the problems remained unfixed. He said he had also complained to Toyota Motors (Thailand) more than two months ago but there was no response from the firm.
Mr Preecha said his drastic protest was also meant as a warning to other Fortuna owners and potential buyers.
He also lodged a complaint with the Office of the Consumer Protection Board on Oct 19.
In response, Toyota Motors (Thailand) yesterday said the brake systems of all Fortuners had already passed standard checks.
Vuthikorn Suriyachanthananont, the firm's executive vice-president, said the brake systems of all Fortuners were up to standard. Under normal circumstances, cracks should not have developed in the vehicle's brake system. However, modifying the vehicle to accept bigger wheels and tyres could cause some cracks to develop, he said.
``We have confidence in the efficiency and quality of the Fortuner's brake system. However, we are ready to negotiate with the customer to fix the problems. And the firm is ready to take responsibility in line with Toyota's standards to give all our customers utmost satisfaction,'' Mr Vuthikorn said.
Ive read a thread before about a tsikoter's Fortuner with just just 15k on his odo that had cracks on the brake pads and the casa replaced it under warranty.
Maybe it's a case of poorly chosen pads or too-small discs?
Lots of big SUVs overheat their brakes easily... but maybe in this case, the Fortuner's brakes are also a bit on the small side for the weight.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
I heard that Speedyfix is offering rear disc brakes kit for the Fortuner. His shop is along Shaw blvd. Try to access this link: http://z3.invisionfree.com/HCP/index...howtopic=17762
so Orido, with all the things that you've discovered (and the bad things that has happened to your dad), do you regret ever getting your car?

ok ok macho din yung Ford everest pero when you say "ford macho" (low tone voice) But when you say ForT Macho (More Bass tone) mwehehehe
well thought? so you mean yung fortuner hindi?
headlights? iba? yung fortuner pala common yung headlights? ummm thats new
driving position? bakit doggy style ba yung position nung fort?
mwehehehehe
Nope!! not one bit!.. even with all the problems that we encountered I dont have any regret with my car!!.. the jittery ride, the weak brakes just doesnt matter to me.. well because I actually expected those problems to occur thanks to you guys and those problems can be solved easily with some simple resourcefulness and ingenuity!I get what I paid for and actually IMO it still is the best value for my money ( or my parents money!
) hehehehe!!.. In all Im very satisfied with it and will get one again in a heart beat!! there may be problems but those problems can easily be forgotten once you drive it!!

I've driven a variety of SUVs before, and I can attest that the Fortuner's braking system is "weak" when compared to other SUVs in the market right now.
However, we have to understand that not all SUVs are designed alike. There are different design philosophies used in every model, and I would assume that Toyota have their reasons on why the Fortuner is designed with such braking systems.
A driver should always execise caution when driving different vehicles. Sa mga nadidisgracia dahil sa "mahina" ang brakes ng Fortuner....I say, you should have tested the braking power before you drive it (or perhaps I should say before you buy it).
Is the Fortuner's brake weak, compared to other SUVs I've driven? YES!
Is the Fortuner's braking system unsafe? Definitely NO!
Awareness lang yan and adapt!
I'm very happy with my Fortuner, and I have no intentions to upgrade my braking system, unless it's proven unsafe.
If it has been proven that it is unsafe sana matagal na. 2005 to 2007 is a very long time to evaluate the braking power of the Fortuner.
Tama si HIFI that the brakes of the Fortuner is a bit weak but not unsafe. I used to drive a Gen2 Pajero equipped with disk brakes front and rear and the braking system is powerful.
I agree with Hifi also that the forts brakes are weak but if you say that its unsafe is wrong.. for me personally I can adapt with the braking system ng fort kaya lang its my dad who has a heavy right foot ang nag kakaproblema with the fort.. kala ata accord parin ang dala niya kahit nka fort n siya..me I just start to press on the brake pedal earlier than usual and let it coast to a stop and not try to stop it abruptly coz of the push of inertia kaya cguro hindi kagad nakakapag full stop ung fort..
and to convert the rear drums to disc is a bit drasticand expensive!! nga cguro pero I think the weak braking power can remedied by changing the stock OEM tires to yokohama geolandar H/T's kase mas inclined on road ung GO46 kesa sa bridgestones duelers.. what do think???.. It can make a difference naman di ba?? in terms of on road performance and braking? kasi nakakuha na ako ng qoute na 5K per tire eh.. I dont want to spend 20K kung wa epek din..
I also operate/drive my Fort based on the safety principle that HIFI mentioned. The "Fort" (as we affectionately call it at FC-P) has its own characteristics, including the weak (but definitely not unsafe) brakes. In a manner of speaking, you have to 'find your feet' and adapt your driving style to match the Fort's ride dynamics, and not to force it to match your driving style as applied to other vehicles; a sports sedan/ coupe, for instance. Situational awareness counts a lot in driving, not only the Fort but on any vehicle.
On a hindsight: I was in a situation where I had to push the break pedals to the floor, with only few inches to spare from the vehicle infont of me. The Fort's breaks and ABS performed admirably, saving me from breaking my wallet with a few thousand pesos. This happened within the first week of my Fort. I used to drive a RAV4 which has a way better breaking characteristics. No regrets with my Fort, all I did was to adjust to it.![]()

This is what you call "the point of no return". i mean, kahit ako man siguro, being a former future fortuner owner.
is this the brand and quality of cars Toyota is offering now? is this the premium of paying P1.2M-P1.6M hard-earned money?
definitely you "get used" to the braking, ang that would make you guys drive more cautious.
