Over a long trip last weekend, while driving relative fast, I noticed a sudden drop in speed then the check engine light suddenly flashed (not blinking)

I pulled over to the side, stopped the engine open the hood, open the fuel tank cap, then restarted the engine. The CEL did not come back but I am still wondering what could have triggered the CEL.

    Any idea?

so why do some engines need decarbonizing? what caused those deposits to deposit?

    Thank you for your question.

Engines are designed to create the proper environment for combustion, but are not designed to extract all of the energy from fuel. During the combustion process, there are portions of fuel that are just not completely combusted. They end up either in the exhaust, or attached to the surfaces of the combustion chamber. Carbon deposits are mostly carbon and aromatic compounds in a highly combustion resistant state.
In layman’s terms, a carbon deposit is left over hydrocarbon chains (fuel) because your engine couldn’t burn it all.

There are a number of issues caused by carbon build up. When larger deposits are formed, they reduce the smooth air flow intended by the engine manufacturer that can hinder optimal mixture with air for combustion, as well as reduced air delivery. Unconsumed fuel can also escape the combustion chamber in the exhaust, but can get trapped along the way on sensors and catalytic converters. Misreadings from sensors can cause increased fuel delivery to the engine, reducing fuel economy.

Look and listen for the following:

    -Rough idle
    -Smoke
    -Reduced Fuel Economy
    -Less power on request

This is why engines need to be de-carbonized, recommended every 10,000 kms or once a year, to have them properly maintained and prolong their lives, not to mention to better protect our environment.

An Innova with a single AC is unheard of, sa India meron.

Talagang hindi malamig yung unang buga when you have just switched on the second AC just like any other vehicle

Goodyear assurance fuel max.Regarding the cabin filter you could just wash it with soap or laundry soap. Hb4 or hb3 55watts/50watts/60watts depending on your preference would do and would cost you 400-700 pesos. Stepboard would cost 5k or higher

De-carbonizing will help decrease your fuel consumption and increase your engine power, it applies to both gasoline and diesel engines.

THE FOLLOWING SITUATIONS MAY OCCUR DUE TO CARBON BUILD UP:

    A. LOSS OF POWER (HP & TORQUE)
    B. LOSS OF RESPONSIVENESS
    C. SLUGGISHNESS
    D. ROUGHER ENGINE
    E. HEAVIER FUEL CONSUMPTION
    F. HARMFUL EMISSIONS (BLACK SMOKE)
    G. JERKY RIDE
    H. MORE VIBRATIONS
