mine died within 2 years after i acquired her from new in 2005. at that time, since the model was still relatively new in the market, no off-casa replacements were available. i don't remember if i was billed 13K or 33K for the casa replacement.
i was made to believe then, that the bearing gave way, and that they couldn't repair it. hence, the replacement. but now, logic suggests it should be repairable, although i never pursued the matter.

    Meron na senyo nagpalit?
    How much?

    Due to ageing ba yan?
    wear and tear?

Problema ko naman paano gagawin ko? Nauwi ko nga hindi ko naman mailabas.

'06 model sakin by the way.

I suggest having it checked first and get a second opinion from a competent electrican or reputable shop.

In my experience battery shops (esp. when they know you are about to claim warranty) will always put the blame on a "faulty alternator" without even considering that the battery may defective.

It will not charge the battery when the engine is running. Normal voltage reading of a healthy battery of an overnight parked car is 12.4v to 12.6v. It goes up to 13.4V or so when you start the vehicle. A vehicle with a non functioning/defective alternator will give a lower reading vs. not started reading bec the alt is not charging the batt.

Ako on my way home last night, una ko napansin humin buga ng AC, nag dim yung gauge, ilaw nung radio basta yung mga illuminated nag dim, Humina yung busina, humina headlight.

I turned off my radio and AC since kakaiba na talaga, nagdadasal na ako na sana maiuwi ko lang sa bahay.

Pag uwi ko after switching the engine ayaw na mag start even crank wala.

    Ayun deads.

He tried putting on the new battery, bagsak pa din yun reading hindi umaabot ng 13V parang naghihingalo yung makina.

After how many years Sir Cast ang alternator mo?

A mini-voltmeter,- plugged to your cigarette lighter interface should give you an early warning if there are latent issues with your alternator... Kita mo siya sa instantaneous voltage measurement, (as displayed )....

Now im confused, i need your opinion.

1.I called a mechanic told me he can go to my house, may dala siya spare battery then itakbo namin oto ko sa shop niya. Kalasin alternator to check ano sira and try to repair it. As for the mechanic referred lang sakin yun. If for replacement na yung alternator ko papahanap ako sa capalangan ng pre-owned na piyesa.

    My concerns:

    - pricey si casa pero as usual mas may peace of mind daw.

Tingin niyo ano mas maganda gawin?

Old school diesel mechanical lahat, kahit wala battery tatakbo. Ang d4d electronic diesel na, from pumps, ecu to the injectors. Titirik din pag wala na kuryente.

It all depends on your budget.

If its at Toyota Casa, they will have the entire assembly changed. It would be quite remote that the CASA would try to repair your old one. Very pricey in the end but this should give you peace of mind.

Meron din marunong mag convert to external type regulator. I dont know kung magagawa pa yon on modern engines.

Pero kung ako eh ill look for good pre owned alternator..

Yes i know casa don't do repairs, replacement agad. I consulted my dad he insisted baka nga may component lang na sira sayang to replace the whole assembly.

What i don't want to happen is mechanic dismantling my car, removing the alternator fixing it putting it back then after using it magka problem ulit which is highly probable ba? As for that mechanic hindi ko pa alam tumrabaho yun.

Kaya napapaisip ako na dalhin na lang sa casa to have it replaced totally kaso. Pero what ifs haunt me, like what if minor lang pala sira sayang naman to have it replaced.

Ang gulo ko no? Sensya na kayo.

You can go the Casa route for peace of mind.

And have your old one assessed first. If its repairable, then have it repaired. After that you can keep it as back up or sell it.

It is repairable and it can even be rebuilt, bihira masira ang alternator, unless otherwise ikaw yung sanay na mag pa engine wash, sigurado iikli ang buhay ng alternator mo. Kahit ano pang cover mo sa alternator, palagi yan mababasa during engine wash.

Yung regulator is for the circuits and modules that needs regulated 12V to run.
