December 9th, 2014 05:37 PM #5792^Jut, alot of folks here had their Body ECUs replaced to get rid of that flickering alarm lamp. I wonder why Toyota is still releasing units with this issue, despite them being aware of this for quite some time.
Congratulations on the new car! How's the front suspension by the way?

December 9th, 2014 06:41 PM #5794Octane rating has nothing to do with fuel consumption or efficiency.
The*octane rating*of gasoline tells you how much the fuel can be compressed before it spontaneously ignites. When gas ignites by compression rather than because of the spark from the spark plug, it causes*knocking*in the engine. Knocking can damage an engine, so it is not something you want to have happening.
The compression ratio of your engine determines the octane rating of the gas you must use in the car. Since our dear Vios has a a designed compression ratio, and the owners manual recommends 91 octane or above, this means that the engine can perform as designed with minimum octane rating of 91 without knocking. In short, any octane above the minimum required is basically a waste of money. Of course higher octane doesn't harm your car but definitely harms your pocket.
Enjoy driving and be safe

I load up on any brand of fuel, Shell, Petron, Caltex, Jetti, Unioil .......... you name it, my Vios has tasted it. Kahit yung mga unknown brands up north.
Except for the fuel sold in Coke bottles ...
And I get the usual mileage, 12 kms/litre mixed cycle, 18-19 kms/litre highway.

Interesting, I thought it was just an isolated case. Anyway, I've gotten used to the flickering so it's not much of an issue. I'll probably have it checked out during PMS.
I haven't noticed anything odd with the suspension, except yesterday when I had to drive through a flooded part of Mandaluyong circle. After crossing the flood, the front would make an odd noise every time I go over a hump. I thought I ripped off a part of the car's underside that was rubbing with my front shocks but when I checked, it was fine.
Then, when I drove the car again a few hours after, it was back to normal. Haven't noticed any change in its handling or ride comfort so far. Are there any prevalent issues with the car's suspension?

December 9th, 2014 11:23 PM #5800so what will the signal / indication be, when something does go wrong with the alarm or the oil pressure?
do we assume that the indicator light will stop flickering and instead put a out a steady bright light?
do we know with confidence, that it can send out such alarm indication?
or will it keep sending out the familiar flickering and nothing more, because it is faulty?
and is this flickering, seen everywhere where the vios / yaris are sold, or is this unique to the philippine market?
just what does the owner's manual say?
perhaps i've been watching too many air crash investigation episodes..
heh heh.
