I found out last Saturday how big a hassle it is to put in rear speakers in the Jimny. The installers had to remove the rear seats, remove the bolts holding the 4 seatbelts to the floor, remove the rear molding - all before removing the side panels to access the rear speaker frames.

What was Suzuki Japan thinking? Would have been so easy to provide access for 6x9 speakers in the side panels. That and the puny factory-installed stereo and front speakers show how little they care for radio/music.

I was also disappointed that I couldn't fit Bosch Europa horns into the space where the stock horn was bolted. Had to settle for Hella Super Tones instead. Well, at least I'm no longer ignored on the road by motorcycles, jeeps and buses.

Um, maybe you went to the wrong installer? Hehe. When we did it, my guy just asked me to hold the panel in the pried open position. No seats or seatbelts were removed in the process. But we used stock sized 4inch speakers since i already have a sub underneath and the rear speakers are for rear fill only. Ill try to find the speaker install photos of i still have em.

As for the horn, the giant black bosch horns on the first jimny were fitted near the firewall. We put them there because of the space and to protect the horns when fording water.

As long as they didnt charge extra for speaker labor and the work was good, i guess you wont feel shortchanged.

One horn to the right of the latch that opens the hood. The other horn in front of the air filter.

I would have loved to go to Jemson, but I am scared to go to the Banawe area by myself. Too many tambays and uzis abound, and lots of things could happen to my car, the moment I turn my head away to look for parts. Perhaps I will go to Jemson, if I ever get around to installing a DVD HU.

I also only had 4" rear speakers installed. But I didn't think of having the end of the side panel just pried open. Oh well, at least I saw what the sides of the vehicle look like. Btw, I can now certify that wiring for the rear speakers does exist. Naka-abang nga behind the left side panel, as was explained in one of the other Jimny forums.

Oh. Let me be clear. Baka masisi pa! 4" speakers lang kasya sa designated location for rear speakers. But if you look behind the side panels, you can see that there are places you can position a pair of 6x9's, as long as you are willing to cut out big holes in the side panels to fit the speakers... which will have to be screwed down to the panels... dunno if additional bracing will be needed though.

Safe naman kina Jemson. It's at the far end (Del Monte side) already. The only people there are patrons of the local establishments (Sogo, Yoh Froz, and Chicken Charlie) plus Jorge and Jemson's friendly pistol-packing land lord (sir Ariel) so no one will mess with you. I sometimes park in the area when I need to go to the 'magulo' side of Banawe. I just ask permission from the local parking boys. The other Jimny you will see there is Doc Ryan (he's an ortho at the P.O.C.) but mostly, it's the Nissan Patrol boys that drop by the shop.

Anyway, Jemson is on a 5 day hiatus so you won't really find him there. hehe. 4" rear speakers are ok unless you want to hack the car up (I don't), so I just grabbed an underseat sub to get decent bass tones. No OEM wiring will be tampered. Just need a new wire direct to battery, a new ground wire, and RCA cables from the head unit. If your stereo doesn't have RCA pre outs, you can buy speaker level to RCA level adaptors from most auto supplies ranging from Php150-300 for the unit. Problem is you need to know how it looks like, most sellers are clueless. Got some (for another project) from Concorde Megamall but the seller didn't have a clue too as to what it does.

Thanks for the info, Doc Otep.

Moving on to something else, does anyone know what this compartment is for?

There are also 4 covered small, rectangular access holes on the side panels; two on each side. What's supposed to be near these access holes but are not there? They would make nice locations for courtesy lights.
