i'm thinking of buying suzuki apv with fb body for my business as unit cost seems to be lower than l300, however it seems apv has lower fc than l300. any thoughts to share on why you think apv is a better choice than l300? tia

None. L300 is a better choice. Bigger cargo, diesel, very reliable. At pag kinargahan ang gasoline car, lalo nagddrop ang fc. Sa diesel mas konti ang drop ng fc

My company L300 has gotten caught by that ASBUwaya more times than I care to count. And, as I have instructed my people that my principles are more important (never bribe, never give in to extortion, etc -- taking the moral high road), I have given up on the L300.

This is sad because I think the Mitsubishi is a good brand on the whole; but it's just too much hassle getting caught. I have sold the L300 and use other vehicles instead (one of them the APV).

6.9 liters (section 12-3) of manual.

Pero (car just left, so I can't look at manual again), I think it is changed every 100T km? Or something like that.

In any case, as it is a used vehicle, I also like to do that: change ATF, change oil, even fuel filter (kaya lang, balita ko mahal fuel filter/assembly of APV, so next time na lang). Even change water/coolant of radiator, etc.

so sir, are you saying the L300 is a smoke belcher? or are you saying it is a favorite milking cow of the crocodiles, even as it passes the emissions test naman..?

    To answer your two questions:

    1. Yes, or at least it's reputation is as such. I talked to a guy from Caltex before, and he said it is not the fault of the vehicles, but rather the diesel fuel in the Philippines. All of them, including Caltex, only import class C or D or whatever diesel fuel, as that is the minimum requirement (I think the others have refineries here, though). In Singapore and Hong Kong, only Class A diesel fuel is allowed.

Still, my experience with Mitsubishi (L300, Strada, L200 pick up) was that they were more prone to spewing out black smoke. Before I sold my Strada, I remember filling it up with a carbuoy (20 liters) with pure biodiesel, and sure enough, after several dozen km, wala ng smoke (amoy french fries pa yung tambucho).

    2. Unfortunately, a big YES. The ASBU flag down any L300, because they know that with their pedal-to-the-metal technique (which, by the way, is AGAINST the testing procedure -- if you read it, there should be a gradual depressing of the accelerator, etc), it WILL fail.

so i wonder... why are our authorities not mandating the use of class A diesel, if it will result in cleaner air..?

Because our Gov't is soo poor they're not concerned with the public health, would entail cost they couldn't afford replacing old transport-equipped w/ 500ppm sulfur diesel. SG uses ULSD 50ppm sulfur diesel and emission is euroV. Never saw diesel spewing smoke even in Malaysia. Most public transport are A/T tranny and traffic is not as bad in Manila.

And yes, 4d56 is a naturally smoke belcher.

Yes, everything can be fixed. You may start isolating the problem with the basics by Jacking it up and check hub bearing, shock/mounts, stab links.

I've owned an 1997 L300 Exceed (gas) and is about to sell my 2005 APV a/t. Sold our L300 last 2013. Medyo o/c ako sa maintenance and I've kept all repairs and gas receipts (for fc purposes) of both vehicles. Our L300's fc is at 7.1km/l and my APV is at 6.8km/l. Both lifetime figures. Night shift ako for more than 10yrs na and optimal driving conditions ko at 70km/l. Parehas gass guzzler. I prefer the L300's ride and how it is easier to maintain not to consider how cheap and easy parts can be sourced. Sensya na sa ka-APV ko. This is just my unbiased ownership experience of both vehicles.

How much would it cost to replace timing belt and ATF?

    TIA

The timing belts won't go beyond 1k, OEM pa yun. APV uses 2 belts. Suggest to buy both belts, keep them in reserve and use them when the need arise. The ATFs, best check the car shops, affordable naman.

Thanks straker, by the way what do you mean APv uses 2 (two) belts?
