Not really. I'm from there and there are a few other members from here also who DON'T race.
As for oil, I suggest you get MI's recommendation. I believe they use Shell Helix Full Synth then they recommend PMS every 10K kms. Personally, since I have a turbo model, I just stuck to the OEM oil and in fact shortened my PMS to 7.5K. Besides, some mechanics suggest filter change every 5K with oil top up REGARDLESS of oil type.
I've been using shell for a while now (20 years) and have been happy with it. But if you want to 'downgrade' your oil, be aware that 1) you might have to shorten your PMS interval to 5K (some people actually prefer this so they can have small things attended to more frequently).
2) Also, you might need to flush before switching since AFAIK, there could be sludge from the synth oil that could be washed down by the mineral or semi-synth oil and cause catastrophic damage.

August 25th, 2009 03:35 AM #483BTW, your 5.5 kms/li FC is a bit on the low side of the FC for pure city driving if I can assume you don't have modifications. But there are ways to improve them since I believe the common range for 2.0 Subaru city driving is 6-7.
There are driving, tuning, and lightening tips here and on subaruclub.ph as well.

August 25th, 2009 02:06 PM #485Thanks pup2
Yup, no modifications. My measurements are based on the instrument panel and not on manual computation. I reset it when I went to Ortigas and it was much better - 12 km/100 l.
My 1,600 check should happen in around 2 1/2 months (just passed 1K). I am really confused with all the viscosity numbers. The Shell Helix Ultra is 5w-40, Mobil 1 is 5w-50. The manual says 0w-20. My plan is to buy the oil in ACE and have it serviced in MI. Is that ok with them and will I really end up saving some bucks in the process?
