    Magandang laban na naman ito
I'm going to batter Klitschko into retiring: Briggs

BERLIN – Ukraine's WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko will be beaten so badly next Saturday in Hamburg that he will be forced to retire, said American challenger Shannon Briggs on Monday.
Briggs, the WBO champion from 2006-7 and with a record of 51 victories, with 45 inside the distance including a record 27 stopped in the first round, five defeats and one no contest, said that Vitali had made a bad choice in selecting him as his opponent.
"I really feel for you," the 38-year-old said, addressing Klitschko at their joint press conference.
"But you have made a bad choice: you are going to meet an adversary that you have never met before. I can hit, box and dodge my opponent's punches."
Briggs, who claims he has shed nearly 40 kilogrammes for the bout -- even going as far as tearing off his t-shirt to prove it, said that after he had dispensed with Vitali he would take on his younger brother Vladimir, the WBO and IBF world champion.
"I have never prepared so well for a bout," he said.
"When I have finished with Vitali, they can bring on Vladimir immediately," added Briggs, who has challenged for the WBC belt before when he lost to Lennox Lewis in 1998.
Klitschko tried to intervene on several occasions at the press conference but Briggs steadfastly refused to give way and the 39-year-old Ukrainian was only able to speak after the American - who has supplemented his income with supporting roles in several Hollywood films - had walked out of the room.
"It is not easy to find an adversary for me or my brother. Shannon accepted immediately to fight me and I thank him for that," said Klitschko, who has held the title since October 2008 on his return after a four year hiatus.
"But when I hear him say he is going to propel me into retirement, that just makes me laugh.
"I am ready and I am going to show that I deserve to wear this belt which has been worn by (Mike) Tyson, (Lennox) Lewis and Muhammad Ali," added Klitschko, whose overall record stands at just two defeats in 42 bouts.

(154lbs ang cut-off weight ng jr. middleweight). and yet title fight pa din yung laban nila. parang nawalan ng freedom ung boxer to fight at a weight designated by the boxing body (WBC, WBO, IBF, etc.). Hindi siya takot kahit kanino, pero pinapahina nya dahil sa catchweight. para sa akin it makes no sense kasi binabalewala nila yung original weight set by the boxing organization.

idol ko si pacman. pero i think it would be better kung hindi siya nagseset ng catchweight. lumalabas kasi, money does the talking, not the boxers' skills and fists.
pareho tayo ng view dito. althou kahit sabihin nila na bale wala yung may cathweight still he has 6divisions in his resume to brag about.. pero sayang nga kaya naman niya kahit wala cathweight. meron pa tuloy nasasabi mga critics, lalu na roger mayweather who called him king of cathweight. boxing already has a lot of weight divisions, no need to add more.

    Panalo na naman si Klitschko...
    Klitschko retains WBC title

HAMBURG, October 16, 2010 (AFP) - Ukraine's Vitali Klitschko retained his WBC heavyweight title here late on Saturday, beating American challenger Shannon Briggs on points (120-107, 120-107, 120-105).
The 39-year-old Klitschko was putting his belt on the line for the fifth time since claiming the title in October 2008 against Nigeria's Samuel Peter after a four year spell in retirement.
Klitschko dominated Briggs to extend his record to 41 wins, 38 by KO, with two defeats.
Briggs, 38, for his part now stands at six defeats from 58 fights.
With Klitschko's brother Vladamir holding the IBF and WBO titles the only belt the brothers' are missing is the WBA belt held by David Haye, the Briton one of the Klitshko's hopes to meet in 2011.
The muscular and dreadlocked Briggs was never able to live up to his pre-bout bragging when he had claimed he had never prepared so well for a fight.
Klitschko set out to tire Briggs with a mix of right hooks to his face and blows to his body.
From the fourth round the older of the two Klitschko's took command with his more accurate and mobile gameplan, the Ukrainian unfazed by some verbal blows launched by his opponent.
In the 7th and the 10th rounds Klitschko, appearing in Hamburg where he had won his first professional fight for the first time since 1999, appeared to have got a KO only for Briggs to pick himself up.
In the last two rounds Klitshcko was unable to serve up the coup de grace despite Briggs appearing at the end of his tether.
"I gave everything, my hand is really sore, but his ability to take punches was impressive," said Klitshko.
"I've boxed against Lewis and Foreman, I put up my best fight of my career tonight, but Vitali is too quick, he hits hard, harder than all the others, he's a great boxer," said Briggs.

MANILA, Philippines - Mixed martial arts (MMA) heavyweight challenger Cain Velasquez overpowered bigger champion Brock Lesnar in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 121 on Saturday night (Sunday in Manila).
The 28-year-old Mexican-American fighter pummelled the former World Wrestling Entertainment star Lesnar in the first round en route to a technical knockout (TKO) win to secure the belt.
“I expected nothing less. He’s a great fighter. What can I say? He was better than me tonight,” Lesnar was quoted in UFC.com.
Lesnar weighs a solid 240 pounds and has been in 8 fights. He last earned a knockout victory against former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion, Antônio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira, in February this year.
Velasquez is the first fighter of Mexican descent to win a major heavyweight title in combat sports, according to UFC.com.
Velasquez hold a record of 9 wins and zero loss while Lesnar absorbed his 2nd loss against 5 wins.

Ito ba yung Paul Williams na gusto lumaban kay Pacquiao?
Martinez knocks out Williams to retain WBC title

ATLANTIC CITY – Argentina's Sergio Martinez knocked out American Paul Williams with one explosive second-round punch Saturday to retain his World Boxing Council world title.
The left hook caught Williams on the jaw and sent the American toppling face-first to the canvas 1:10 of the second round.
As Martinez began to celebrate, doctors entered the ring to tend to Williams, who was able to get to his feet after several minutes.
Martinez, who improved to 46-2-2 with 25 knockouts, avenged a defeat to Williams last December, when the American won their action-packed encounter by a 12-round majority decision. Both fighters went down in the first round of that fight.
Martinez rebounded from that defeat to capture his title last April with a unanimous 12-round decision over another American, Kelly Pavlik.
Williams, who had said he felt like Martinez "stole" a crown that should be his, fell to 39-2 with 27 knockouts.
Martinez, stung by the decision in his first fight with Williams, had said coming in that he didn't intend to let the judges decide the rematch.
"I didn't want the judges to rob me this time," he said.
Added Martinez promoter Lou DiBella: "He said, 'I'm going to knock him out. The fight is not going to go seven rounds, I'm going to knock him out.'
"I was worried like a maniac and he said, 'No, I'm knocking him out. Relax.'"
Martinez delivered a series of crisp blows in the opening round and Williams never saw the knockout punch coming in the second.
"I started to attack, and when I did, we knew he was going to make a mistake, because he always makes mistakes," Martinez said. "He left me a lot of room to come in and hit him."
Said Williams: "I just got caught with a punch. He got me with a clean shot."
Martinez, who earned slightly more than one million dollars for his evening's work, said he wants to fight two or three more times before hanging up his gloves.
He mentioned as possible candidates Filipino hero and American Floyd Mayweather – the man Pacquiao displaced as pound-for-pound king.
But most fight fans still hope those two will eventually meet, and DiBella didn't seem to think a Pacquiao or Mayweather bout was likely for Martinez.
"If you're Pacquiao, would you go near him? You think Mayweather will fight him?" DiBella said. "We're going to have a problem making the next fight because that's how good he is."

sergio is a middleweight. . .pacman's current title maybe just one weightclass below it, but i think that's the limit for pacman

Malaking chance yan as Knockout of the year, unless of course meron tayong mapanood na mas magandang KO ngayong weekend sa laban ni Marquez vs. Katsidis.

Sabi ni Martinez willing daw siyang bumaba ng 154 for Pacman, pero I hope they fight at 147. Perfect weight kay Manny ang 147.

Pacquiao asserts himself as pay-per-view star
By DAVE SKRETTA, AP Sports Writer
    Nov 23, 6:24 pm EST

NEW YORK (AP)—Manny Pacquiao is not simply the best boxer in the world. He’s also the sport’s biggest box office attraction.

Pacquiao’s comprehensive destruction of Antonio Margarito for a vacant junior middleweight title on Nov. 13 at Cowboys Stadium generated at least 1.15 million buys and $64 million domestic revenue, according to figures announced Tuesday by HBO Sports.

Those numbers are expected to increase slightly once all the figures are counted, but Pacquiao already is assured of his third straight year with at least one fight breaking the 1 million mark.

    AdChoices

“It wasn’t even on the right-hand side of the computer spreadsheet,” said HBO vice president Mark Taffet, whose job includes handling pay-per-view broadcasts, when asked whether the numbers exceeded his expectations. “It’s an outstanding number.”

Pacquiao’s victory over Oscar De La Hoya in 2008 generated 1.25 million buys, and his knockout of Miguel Cotto last year did 1.2 million. Taffet said his last five fights combined have generated at least 5.1 million buys, putting Pacquiao on par with De La Hoya, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the biggest earners in pay-per-view history.

Of that group, the Filipino icon is the only non-American.

“He’s become a world figure, that’s what differentiates it from the superstars that preceded him,” Taffet said. “And his coverage is not just in sports media. He’s transcended sport, to the point where he’s the first non-American to generate these kinds of numbers.”

Pacquiao also generated 700,000 buys for a lopsided decision earlier this year over Joshua Clottey, a fighter who has virtually no name recognition beyond the most ardent boxing fans.

Those same fans are hoping the next fight for Pacquiao is against someone virtually everybody recognizes: Mayweather. The two sides have failed twice to reach an agreement on what could be the richest fight in boxing history, and now with Mayweather’s legal trouble in Las Vegas, the matchup is looking increasingly unlikely for next year.

“Mayweather, it can’t be compared to any other fight that can conceivably be made,” said Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, comparing the fight to the Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier fight in 1971.

“That fight would be like the Ali-Frazier of our time. And you know, Ali-Frazier in 1971 was the biggest fight really of all time, at that point. The same thing would be said for Manny and Floyd this time, but you know, it takes two to make the fight.”

Arum said he’s flying to the Philippines in December to celebrate Pacquiao’s birthday, and at that point plans to discuss potential opponents. But he conceded in a phone interview with The Associated Press late Tuesday that he’s not optimistic about Mayweather for the spring.

“Manny is there, he wants to do the fight, and Floyd for whatever reason is not prepared to fight him, so we have to go on to the next best thing if Floyd remains unavailable,” Arum said. “We’ll see who’s available and what the terms are and then we’ll select an opponent. Hopefully it’s Mayweather, but as the day goes by, it’s not looking good.”

nabasa ko nga na naghahamon na si Martinez sa 154lb(jr middeweight) belt ni pac. lets get it on! mababa depensa nitong si martinez, at bara bara, yari to sa mga combos ni pac :D

kahit siguro maKO ni marquez si Katz eh iba pa rin yung dating ni Martinez kasi nasa top 10 pound for pound sila ni Williams and Williams have a reputation of having a solid chin. year lang talaga siguro ni Martinez ngayon, he worked hard for it.

20 yrs old nung magsimula mag boxing.

seriously, di kaya ni pacquia i-defend sa 154 yung belt nya. magaling lang mag-negotiate sila arum kaya meron new weight division title si pacman. kaya nga sila nag-decide to remain below 150 because if he moves up he slows down against natural 154 fighters.
