Very frustrating to see how GMA has been marketing the Pacquiao-Cotto fight, they've done a poor job in his first 2 fights with them.

Z Gorres wins over Columbian foe; rushed to hospital

LAS VEGAS - Filipino boxer Z "The Dream" Gorres was rushed to hospital after going down in the last round of his fight against his Columbian foe Luis Melendez at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas.
Despite going down badly, Gorres was able to get up 30 seconds before the final bell rang and was declared winner via unanimous decision.
The fight started out slow for the both fighters, but the action picked up when Z Gorres knocked down Melendez with a one-two combination at the 3rd round.
The fight's pace went up further after the Filipino boxer landed another combination with his left and straight punches against the Columbian fighter.
Melendez got up, but was overwhelmed by the Filipino throughout the fight. The Columbian fighter, however, came back strong and held his own in the 10th round.
Melendez toppled Z Gorres with his own version of a one-two combination.
The Filipino was able to recover from the knockdown, but after being declared winner in the bantam weight division fight, he collapsed again to the ground.
Z Gorres stayed on the floor for about 5 minutes before he was brought out of the Mandalay Bay on a stretcher and brought to a nearby hospital. -- Report from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News

LAS VEGAS - Filipino boxer Z "The Dream" Gorres is reportedly in a critical condition after undergoing an emergency surgery at a hospital in Las Vegas, where he was rushed after winning his fight against Colombian foe Luis Melendez at the Mandalay Bay Hotel on Saturday.

Michael Aldeger, Gorres's manager told ABS-CBN Nes that the Filipino boxer had to undergo surgery due to a blood clot on the left side of his brain.

Aldeger said that as of 1:57 p.m. (Manila time), Gorres remains unconscious and doctors at the University Medical Center have advised them the boxer is in critical condition.

The boxer was rushed to hospital after going down in the last round of his fight against Melendez.

Youngest Filipino champion “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona has vacated his World Boxing Organization junior bantamweight title after failing to make the 115-pound limit during the weigh in. Sonsona (14-0, 12 knock outs) weighed 117.6 pounds Saturday morning in Canada, the very same day the fight will take place.

Sonsona’s coaches and management did not force him to lose the extra weight as further dehydration during the fight could put him at risk.

They said there are plans to move Marvin Sonsona up in weight after the fight.

It's a pity to a rising boxer like Marvin Sonsona to loose his title without a fight due to weight problems. Coaching and management staff should be blamed for this mess. There is no justification for this inefficiency of Marvin Sonsona's handlers.

don't blame the handlers. they already said they are foreseeing this because the 19 yr old kid is still growing. just like pacman when he was 19 yrs old fighting at 112lbs. i actually think they made the right choice of not forcing sonsona to drain off 2.5lbs more or he may be TKOed due to dehydration. and you'll never what will be the effect of a loss to a fighter.

But they don't need to drain off that 2.5 lbs in a day. They should have prepared for that. Pinaghahandaan ng matagal. Kung gsuto nilang manalo, dapat tantiyado na nila before fight night yung tamang timbang ng fighter nila.
