Houston instantly volts into the "Title Contender" status with this trade... Lets see how TMac buys into JVG's system and if his back holds up. They need a playmaking point guard cuz I don't think that Ty Lue cuts it.

June 30th, 2004 11:45 AM #1382im sure magpapa trade din yan si stevie francis down the road. (siya pa)
rockets won this trade mcgrady now can perfect his jumpers since may big man na siya to pull those rebounds
yao ming now can get his touches because tmac is a passing guard.
houston needs a big bodied point who can defend the likes parker/payton/billups

I'd hate to be in Mitch Kupchak's shoes...
Franchise center wants out cuz he says that the Lakers are "poison" -> Fact: Shaq didn't keep himself in shape in the past couple of seasons resulting in injuries to his foot and toes and sore knees... He set himself up for this unfortunate situation.
Shaq says that the Lakers became "fat" as a franchise when they won three straight and did not make the necessary personel moves. -> Fact: Because of the enormous contract of Shaq and Kobe which is roughly 3/4s the salary of the Lakers... management was hard pressed to add young talent without going way over the cap... which also comes back to Shaq's reluctance of getting in an off-season workout regimen to control his weight and thus also becoming "fat". You clearly see a dropoff in Shaqs performance in this years finals where it used to be that Shaq dominated the opposing teams front line all by himself.
Buttomline: Both shaq and the lakers become "fat" after those three championships.
Now teams trading for Shaq are warry of his conditioning and health combine it with what the Lakers' are asking in return... trading Shaq will be very complicated and might not happen until mid july or early august or if the Lakers get a verbal commitment from kobe to sign with them long term.

June 30th, 2004 12:55 PM #1387Orlando Magic Blunders Thru the years
1. Losing Shaq to the Lakers without compensation
2. Trading Rights to Chris Webber for Penny Hardaway (they should've a lot more)
3. Signing Grant Hill
4. Picking Howard instead of Okafor (not yet proven)
1. this is why orlando made the trade even though nasa bad side of the trade sila, they would not want tmac walking away at the end of his contract for nothing in return.
2. the Webber- Penny Trade was just bundle with draft picks sana orlando insisted to to put quality soild players.
3. 37 games in 4 years tsk tsk (pero detroit hid his injury before the trade.daw)
4. Okafor have a bad back that's why they went with Howard

i definitely agree that houston came out 100% better than orlando in this deal.
Francis imo is one of the most overrated players in the nba today - gets good numbers, has good moves - but is not a winner and instead of making his teammates better, he makes them worse (see Yao). horrible decision-making, especially in the clutch, and too many turnovers.
orlando gets a keeper in Cuttino Mobley though - excellent player, and decent price.
houston gets the second-best two-guard in the league and the scoring champ, plus Juwan Howard, who is still a 15 (pts) and 10 (rebs) player, even if he is terribly overpriced.
T-Mac has absolutely no weaknesses in his offensive game - unlimited range, every move you can imagine, and he can jump right over you. defensively, he can't stop Lebron and Kobe, but who can AND score 40 at the same time?
the only question mark for houston is whether t-mac commits himself to the development of Yao's game. with Francis, Yao's development was actually hurt and that's when he became expendable.

Lalong lumakas ang West. Sana mapunta si Shaq sa East para mabalance pa.)
Shaq is really starting to piss me off as a fan - he, his attitude, his poor conditioning and his contract are just as responsible for the Lakers' downturn as Kobe's selfishness and management's stupidity. he should just STFU and accept a trade.
what's worse, he's screwing up the Lakers' bargaining position by letting everyone know they're desperate to trade him. i have also heard that he has already vetoed at least one great deal for the Lakers (to the Clippers for Brand and Maggette) because he doesn't want to play for them....what a baby :swear:
