    Groupsets includes the ff:
    Bottom Bracket
    Crank
    Cassette
    Chain
    Derailleurs (Front & Rear)
    Brake / Shift Levers
    Brakes (F & R)
    Shifter and Brake Cables/Hose
    Wheel Hubs & Skewers

I'm almost sure that the top 3 variants (lx/slx, xt, xtr) can be bought in Groupsets.
They are cheaper by up to 25% compared to buying parts piece by piece.
LX/SLX Groupsets (Non Hydraulic) I think cost around P25k nowadays.
Hydraulics cost around 20- 25% more. The TOTL XTR will cost twice. :bike:

I got a Marin bike two months ago. I've been to Heroes' Trail in Taguig and Timberland Heights in San Mateo, Rizal. Looking forward to blue skies. =B)

    salamat boss...

I'm just not sure about the availability of SRAM Groupsets (meron na ba?).
Do SRAM Groupsets includes as many componets as with the Shimanos?
Mahirap naman kasing bibili ka ng SRAM Groupset na hindi naman kumpleto at
kailanganin mo pa ng Shimano parts na SRAM compatible.

Having ridden some bikes that have SRAM Drivetrains, I can say that the performane is as excellent
    as the Shimanos.

I prefer Shimano dahil nga subok na, and the availability of replacement parts almost everywhere.

Yes, mas mura ang shimano owing to the fact na meron 2 xtra groupsets and SRAM sa high end vs shimano although ginawa ng shimano ay yung latest nila ay tinapat nila yung XTR RACE grupo nila sa XX grupo ng SRAM. Currently, ganito matching nila more or less (SRAM-shimano) :

XX1 - (non, wala pa 11 spd ang shimano)
    XX - XTR Race
    X0 - XTR trail
    X9 - XT
    X7 - SLX
    X5 - Deore

Note that XTR, XT and SLX clutch type rear derailleurs as well type 1 SRAM Derailleur are 40% more expensive than normal RD.

For SRAM, their grupos are combination of rock shox, avid and truvativ as they are same company. Lately, truvativ drivetrains are now labeled as SRAM while brakesets are still Avid and grupos are under Avid's elixir subset.

I am using X0, X9 and XTR, XT drivetrain. Performance wise, shimano shift smoother while SRAM shifts faster (1:1 pull ratio). For brakes, both gave tunable stopping power. I liked the long lever by SRAM for better one finger operation although current XT/XTR brake levers are now modified for one finger operation. Here's my XT brake levers :

SRAM currently trumps Shimano, who has no answer to the XX1 and XO1. The recently crowned downhill world cup champion (Stevie Smith) and the Enduro world series world champion (Jerome Clementz) are both on SRAM, btw.

Siyempre nasa rider din yan but the XX1 XO1 are true innovations over what Shimano can currently offer to racers.

Sa front shocks naman, lamang ngayon ang RockShox, as the 2014 Pike is head and shoulders above the competition.

Hi Monty, you will only have 2 choices, go budget or go all out. Either way, mag kakasakit ka pa din ng upgradetitis, hehehe. Mas mag and marami Kayo mag babike, kasi mas maeenganyo ka na gamitin lagi bike mo.

FS frames that I consider good are those in the range of 38K to 45K. Giant trance and anthems, marina and looks 576 as well as Fuji and GT. 50k will get you commencals and for Santa Cruz and yeti 575 (and old model carbon frames from commencal and GT), you will need to shell out ~90k. Higher up will give you the carbon FS frames like santacruz blur carbon, yeti and tomac supermatic. If you go budget, you can get KHS and xtensions, as well as Merida and anthems x4 at ~32 to 35k but bear in mind that the dampers (rear suspension) might only be Rebound models (no lockout and compression adjustments). And those prices are only the FS frames and damper. For the groupset excluding hubs/skewers (I'm a sucker for wheelsets so no need the hubs/skewers), deore/x5 will set you back at around 13k pesos (includes the drivetrain and hydraulic brakesets deore/elixir 5). SLX/x7 will cost you around 20K while XT/X9 will be 27k. For forks, a good starter air suspension is suntour's epicon at 6~7k. Going for fox will cost you 24k, though having tried rockshox, x-fusion, suntour epicon and fox air suspensions, x-fusions velvet tops the smoothness followed by rockshox and suntour then fox, but tunability goes to fox. I never suffered a submarine effect that will make you go over the handlebar on a fox shox vs the others. Xfusions and rockshox (SRAM) forks will set at ~15k to 20k. Now we go to wheelsets (hub, skewer, spokes and rims all in one), name rand Mavics cross ride and fulcrum red metal 5/XL5 cost ~8 to 10k, while crosstrails and red metal 3 and 1 will cost you from 18k to 28k and their high end cross max and red metal 0 cost 45K.
Now you just need to add the seatpost, seat/saddle, grip, handlebar, headset, head post and tires (tubeless/non tubeless) to complete your bike.

Anyway, please confirm the prices as this were prices last year. Good luck on your MTB.

thank you very much sir aDD_L, I really appreciate your inputs. I think the prices you mentioned are still valid nowadays. i'm buying 2 bikes actually, one for me and my son. i'm still undecided which brand will I get but as a minimum i'm getting an FS, alum or alloy frame, fox or rock shox forks and at least deore/slx drive trains. I emailed king's bike shop in quiapo and they've been very accommodating, it really depends on the budget. I think i'll go no more than 50k/bike budget, that's I believe a decent build and more than enough for a father and son biking bonding time. let upgradetitis take its course later

There are decent built bikes for around Php30-40K, after discounts.

You can also haggle for freebies (water bottle cages, chainstay protectors, etc)

Good hunting and enjoy your rides. It will be great bonding time with your son.
