    that's a $$$ problem.
the pcr will tell us only that the body is there.
it can not differentiate between a live body and a carcass.
one has to attempt to grow it, to determine if it is still viable. growing a bacterium is easy. growing a virus is lots more difficult and expensive.

this line of thinking was used to help explain why some patients appeared to have recovered, but their pcr tests still showed (fragments of) virus.

ganyan naman talaga ang terminology -- reactive or non-reactive

Dr. D told me to use those words instead of using the words positive / negative

the Roche test only detects IGG (antibodies produced much later... after IGM)

so it's useless to detect acute infection

it will only show reactive result 2, 3 weeks after infection

in short it will only tell you if you HAD the virus (after gumaling ka na)

pcr can only detect viral dna

(in the case of SARSCOV2 which is a RNA virus they use reverse transcriptase to convert rna to dna before running the test)

pcr cannot tell if the virus is viable or not

it will just tell you "hey there's viral dna in the sample"

well kung naka mask properly LAHAT it can minimize ung expelling of saliva/droplets/aerosol

and kung lahat ng tao sa office tahimik lang wala magsasalita nang malakas

    kung mag uusap may distansya

    (bawal ibaba ang mask)

    --

kaya numero uno restaurants kasi kumakain syempre no mask tapos lahat ng tao nag uusap

lalo sa chinese resto malakas boses

    --

kahit may distansya ang seating sa resto you're all breathing the same indoor air

there are two ways to evaluate test result.

one is by eyeballing. similar to the ordinary pregnancy test available from the drugstore. "look and see." of course it's cheaper than...
the other way, which is by using a machine to read it.

the nice thing about the machine, is it minimizes guesswork in cases of the so-called "gray zones". yung alanganing " reactive ba o hindi? ".
also, it usually keeps a record of the test.

Perhaps we should have adopted this early:

Why pooled testing could be a breakthrough in the fight against COVID-19 - MarketWatch

Even now, our positivity rate is still below 15%. This will help efforts at mass testing.

    pooled testing is old hat.
    it has pros and cons.
the pros are obvious: it makes for cheaper, faster testing.
as for the con... low-enough-but-still-positive-samples, might escape detection.

it was the same argument, years ago, in hepatitis testing.

Still, I think more apt for a pandemic vs single tests. BTW how do the swabbers make sure they don't contaminate the next test kit/person? Do they change PPE for every test? I'm afraid the swabbing might create aerosols that could contaminate the next swab.
