i have been listrening to the media.
they have not explained it in effective-enough terms, why .

All I can say, ma'am, is that after this is all over, the whole world will never be the same again. We have China to thank for that. They single-handedly "changed" the world. What an achievement, no?

Forwarding this cautionary tale I received -- stay home and stay safe sirs and madams.

"GH west village relative of a friend. Lets all be careful

    Forwarded message:

Okay so hello I think you’ve heard na from some people but if not, well here it is. My dad’s mom passed away due to NCOV. I’ll recap what happened this past week in hopes that you understand how deadly this thing is from what my family has experienced.

Some background on my ama, she really reeeeaaally loves going out and cant stay still. If she thinks of something, she HAS to go out and do it right away. Because she can’t walk long distances, she frequently goes to Unimart to walk around to stretch her legs or buy a thing or two.
    Anyways, here it goes:

    March 7
First day of fever and she instructed the caregiver and our helper at home to NOT tell anyone.

    March 8
Still had fever. Unfortunately, everyone from the clan came over because of our weekly Sunday dinners. As a result, all of us came in contact with her.

    March 9
Our helper really felt that something was off about this fever and told my mom about it. My mom told her to take biogesic to keep the fever down for the meantime and said that if she could go on for a day without the fever coming back, it means she’s alright. Ama even reprimanded the helper who told my mom because she did not want people to be disgusted by her if ever it does turn out to be NCov

    March 10
She was alright in the morning but the fever came back (around 38 degrees just like the other days I think) so we made her take biogesic again.

    March 11
The fever was really not going away so my dad and his sibling took her to CSMC to have her checked. Initially, ER cleared her for NCov based on the symptoms chart. At that time, she only had a fever. After this, she had her chest x-ray and had to wait for the next day until showing it to the doctor.

    March 12
We showed the x-ray film to the doctor and she was very alarmed by what she saw. She requested my dad and his sibling to bring ama to the Ncov tent. She was supposed to give her swab test earlier in the evening, but she was not cooperating so it was at 2AM when the medial team finally got her swab for the NCov test. During this time, we also made our angkong’s caregiver go to the hospital with another helper so that they could assist my dad and his sibling with ama.
This was the start of the end. She was told to stay in the ER for 3 days (or for as long as the results haven’t come out).

    March 13
We made our helper and caregiver come back so that they could rest. They pleased with us to not make them go back because they did not want to get infected. However, we asked the caregiver to help out because we knew she had more experience in dealing with this kind of situation and my dad’s sibling needed help as well.

We also somehow got a room for her even though CSMC was running out of rooms but no nurse would go in unless you really call for them. This was why my uncle and caregiver had to stay if in case something happened

    March 14
Ama has now gotten worse. Phlegm was building up in her lungs and struggled to breathe. There was no other way but to intubate her. At first we thought that phlegm was a good sign since NCov was known for making people have dry cough, but the doctor compared her chest Xrays and said that it is clearly a sign of a viral infection. If it were normal pneumonia, the damage wouldn’t happen this fast.

    March 15
The caregiver came back and told us that she wasn’t feeling so good. She started having fever so we brought her to the CSMC NCov tent but by then, they had run out of NCov test kits. All she could do was to take a chest x-ray and blood test to somehow detect if she had the virus or not.

My aunt who covered for the caregiver said that ama initially could not recognize her but we don’t know if this was due to the medicine they gave her or the virus itself.

    March 16
My uncle reported that her chest x-ray showed improvement but said that ama could no longer digest food and peed too little compared to a normal person. She also vomited earlier that day. A few hours later, she had difficulty staying awake and did not respond to our aunt who was in the room. She then passed away at around 2AM in the morning. We were informed afterwards that her test result came out positive but it was pretty much useless to us now since it was released at around 11pm or midnight.

    March 17
My aunts and uncles asked if they could at least change ama into her favorite dress before they took her away but it was not allowed. No one was allowed to even look at her. Sadly, they just put her in a bag to be cremated right away at 6pm. We werent even allowed proper burial or anyone to transport the body. We wouldnt even be able to claim her ashes not until this NCov issue blows over.

Two helpers (the one we sent to csmc to help and our cook) told us that they were starting to get sick with colds and cough so we made them get checked. By this time, CSMC still did not have test kits so they had the usual xray and blood test. We also asked my dad to get checked just to be sure. We also rented out another house for the helpers to stay in so we could contain the situation better. Unfortunately, the helper started to develop fever (around 38 deg) and we are still monitoring the situation as of the moment.
DOH has also contacted my dad and cook for contact tracing.

Anyways, all I could say is that what was once an issue far from us is now a squirrel in the backyard. None of us would’ve ever thought to have NCov hit so close to home. So please, I urge all of you to stay at home and if ever you start feeling anything strange, please have yourself checked for your sake and the sake of everyone else around you."
