Roche Drug Reduces Need for Ventilation in Covid Patients - Bloomberg
Roche Holding AG said its Actemra drug reduced the need for ventilation in a third-phase clinical trial on hospitalized patients with Covid-19 and pneumonia.
The patients who got the drug were 44% less likely to progress to ventilators or die, compared with others who just got the standard care, Roche said Friday. There was no statistically significant improvement in reducing mortality in the results published Friday.
In August, results from another trial on Actemra showed that injecting the medicine didn’t help improve the health of patients or reduce deaths, although it did appear to allow people to leave the hospital earlier.

Internal AstraZeneca safety report sheds light on neurological condition suffered by vaccine trial participant - CNN
The "case narrative" contained in AstraZeneca's report says the patient had the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine in early June and was fine. She received her second dose in late August.
On September 2, while running, the study participant "had a trip (not fall) with a jolt." The report notes that she did not have any obvious injury to her cervical spine.
The next day, the report says, she had symptoms including difficulty walking, pain and weakness in her arms, pain and reduced sensation in her torso, a headache and reduced ability to use her hands.
The woman was hospitalized on September 5.

90-minute British DnaNudge COVID-19 test is accurate, Lancet study finds | Reuters
Faster testing could allow more people to return to work or permit testing on entry to hospital, thus slowing a second spike in coronavirus infections.
The new test, based on the design of a DNA test developed by a professor at Imperial College London, received approval for clinical use by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) at the end of April after successful trials.
In a study in The Lancet Microbe, the test was found to have an average sensitivity – the ability to correctly identify those with COVID-19 – of 94.4% and a specificity – correctly identifying those without the disease – of 100%.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock told LBC radio that Britain was rolling out the tests across hospitals.
“The critical thing in terms of usefulness is that the machine doesn’t need to be in a lab - it is about the size of a shoebox - therefore you can put one, say, in an A&E (accident and emergency) department and they can know whether people coming in have got the coronavirus or not,” Hancock said.
Hancock said the machines could also be deployed at other locations such as schools.
Each box can run one test at a time so could process about 16 tests per day, said a spokeswoman for the company that produces the tests.

Dati naniniwala ako magkakaroon ng at least 1 vaccine approval before US election (coz yan ang target ni Trump)
now i'm beginning to doubt...
and the reason i'm doubting is NOT because hindi kaya... tingin ko kaya
PERO nobody wants to be the pre-election vaccine
coz if you're the pre-election vaccine everybody will think you got pressured by Trump
the public will doubt your vaccine's safety and avoid your vaccine
paano $$$ mo?
so i think everyone's gonna let the election pass muna
We'll see...
(RE: western vaccines yan)
